Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]

stretching
12 PM

running 1:14:33 [4]

Went out for a run along the river, intending to do some longer intervals. Calves were really tight and sore though (I knew stretching was no good! :P), plus it very quickly started bucketing rain, it was so heavy i couldn't see through the torrents running down my face!...so i only got through 7.5mins of interval efforts. Then just ran at a steadyish pace for the rest. Shin a bit niggly....have been instructed to have an extremely easy week next week!
Was totally soaked when i got home - pretty sure my housemates thought i was more crazy than usual haha!

Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]

Second lot of stretching for the day

Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]

I keep saying this, but I really need to stretch more as I think my tight calves are making my shin worse. So! Today is the first of a twice daily stretching routine....
7 PM

Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]
(rest day)

Second lot of calf stretching for the day. Meant to go for a run, but feeling totally frazzled after a very long day in the lab without much break :( at least now we're ready to insert our DNA into some human cells which is pretty cool!

running 1:02:54 [3]

Very easy run along the river, this time going west for a change. Definitely not as nice as going east, so rookie error there.
Legs were tight and sore and shin was complaining a bit too, so not all of this was running but MEH I'm going to log it all as running anyway!

running intervals 1:02:06 [5]

Arrows ints at north adelaide. I was expecting to feel very bleugh after my long run, so opted to just do my own session while the others did ladders. once i started i actually felt ok though, and did 20mins of 1min on/1min off (but had a longer walking rest after the 5th effort). Could feel my legs were getting tired quickly, but garmin says i kept up a pretty good pace for all of them so YAY maybe i'm getting fitter!

Note
(rest day)

Sleeeeeeepy. Had a dream that I had meningococcal last night, which freaked me out. I don't like learning about diseases - then I get paranoid that I'm infected or have a tumour growing somewhere....

running long 2:25:30 [3]

Got a little bit carried away today and did quite a long run when I probably shouldn't have...was very conscious of my shin and it was (weirdly) very good!
Pretty much explored cleland. First 40mins were pretty bad as my soleus was complaining and took ages to warm up, so I had to do a lot of stopping. After that I felt ok though! Really fun :D
Time includes stops to check the map and stuff.

Also, pretty sure I'm going to get a cold now as I had to wait 40mins for the bus and got pretty cold....whooopssss

Saturday May 25, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Was going to have a rest day on account of my shin, but woke up with a migrane that wouldn't go away all day...soo had a day doing nothing much. Didn't get much uni work done at all :(

Friday May 24, 2013 #

running tempo 1:11:39 [4]

Went out along the river, and did 5x5mins at tempo pace (so not going really hard, but still pushing) with 2mins easy in between. Kinda just made this session up on the spot. In retrospect should have made the efforts longer as I wasnt that tired after, but think i was going at a good "tempo" pace. Or maybe I should have just pushed harder....
Still a bit of shin discomfort, but it wasn't too bad. Fun to explore further up the torrens!

running 30:02 [3]

Morning run along the river before uni. Took it very easy. A bit of shin discomfort...
Beaut day today, too bad I had to spend it all in the lab :(

running intervals 54:46 [4]

Did mona fartlek along the river. Think I've become a bit obsessed with this session haha. Rest between the second 90sec effort and the first 1min effort was longer than normal as i had to cross the swing bridge, and didnt think it'd be a good idea to run fast along there!
Alright session, and a big plus was my shin + lower legs felt good - despite doing pretty much all of the session on the bike path. :D

Tuesday May 21, 2013 #

6 PM

running 1:00:00 [3]

loop around north adelaide with the arrows. glad to skip on intervals as my lower legs are still very tight, and my legs in general felt wrecked (?). Shin was better than yesterday but is still a bit fragile.

orienteering 30:00 [3]

Fail day. Shin hurt, has been feeling niggly for a week and it decided to be a bum today. Hurt from the start, so i was running along thinking "i should probably stop..." then one minute later i'd change my mind and decide it wasn't that bad and i should tough it out...so was debating with myself for ages and wasn't looking at my map or concentrating on navigating. Eventually decided it was stupid, so i stopped (at control 5, at the far end of the map haha!) and walked back to the finish.
Have identified a few issues that've probably made it go bad again, so as long as i keep an eye on them it should be ok...

Saturday May 18, 2013 #

9 AM

running 30:00 [3]

Easy run along the river. Felt ok, but shin was a little twingey. Need a really easy week next week!
6 PM

orienteering 57:00 [3]

SA night O champs! This was SO fun! I think the last time i did night orienteering was 3 or 4 years ago...so i had no confidence in my abilities and expected to get extremely lost. Should have had more faith in myself though, i nailed a lot of controls in the vague stuff (don't know if that was from skill or luck haha). I was going very slowly though, mostly to avoid getting horribly lost. Super fun, and i only thought about slender man near the end ;)

Friday May 17, 2013 #

6 PM

running 48:48 [3]

Run with the arrows along the river. :D felt ok. Leg is ok after ints yesterday. Smashed it with ibuprofen (despite all my recent research about how bad it is for your GIT, especially when combined with exercise!)

Thursday May 16, 2013 #

9 AM

running intervals 56:32 [4]

Mona fartlek in the morning, should have really been going to my 6hr prac at uni, but it usually goes for 7+hrs anyway, so I thought i'd be a badass ;)
Felt ok warming up, but when I started to go hard my left shin was sore....old stress fracture site plus my soleus. Continued on, then stopped to walk for a bit. Then did the rest of the session. Think it's ok, I just need to STRETCH and not let my legs get so tight.
Because of these shin troubles, this wasn't a total killer session.

Wednesday May 15, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Turned into a rest day. Went out for a run, but then decided to just walk considering how destroyed I was after yesterday. Probably a good idea...

Tuesday May 14, 2013 #

6 PM

running intervals 1:01:31 [5]

Arrows ints at north adelaide.
I died so hard in this session. Dunno if it's just cuz i've been under a lot of stress with uni or what, but my legs had NOTHING after the first 400m int. Then the rest were awful and i started feeling faint. :(

Monday May 13, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Another really crappy day at uni :( :( :(
At least I had the new episode of game of thrones to cheer me up. And my early birthday present (new ipod yaaaaaay)

Sunday May 12, 2013 #

running long 1:47:15 [3]

Got a bus to near cleland and did some exploring! Yeaaaaahhh, I was having so much fun, wish i could have kept going for longer but had to turn around so i wouldnt miss my bus home (turned out the bus was 30mins late anyway grr)
Felt good on the flat and downhills (haha) but calves were really tight and sore on the uphills. Time includes some stops to check the map etc. Really tired after!

Saturday May 11, 2013 #

9 AM

running intervals 56:08 [5]

Snake pit intervals! Yeahhh! (aka ~400m sandy undulating loop)
I wasn't feeling that great, but did 5 loops hard with slow jog recovery inbetween, then 3 half-loops hard, with easy jog inbetween. Running hard on sand is frustrating! My effort seemed to be going in all directions...good training though. Keen to come back for some more :D

Friday May 10, 2013 #

6 PM

running 1:00:06 [3]

Bridget and Simon took me on a tour of north adelaide. I dunno where we went, but I assume it was around north adelaide! it was fun! i wasn't feeling very good though - uni is killing me at the moment and i'd had a migrane all day :(

Thursday May 9, 2013 #

7 AM

running 25:16 [3]

Easy run along the river. Felt tired and sore!

Wednesday May 8, 2013 #

5 PM

running 59:40 [3]

Good run along the river to burn some frustration. Felt bleugh for the first half hour then got in a rhythm and felt good!

Tuesday May 7, 2013 #

6 PM

running intervals 58:00 [4]

Arrows ints, big group tonight! We did 10x200 w 200 jog recovery. I surprisingly felt ok, given the weekend, but times were a little slow....atleast I was consistent and all efforts were within about 2secs of each other! Was tired after but not totally stuffed, so prob need to push harder next time ;)
Dinner after was awesome!

Monday May 6, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Rest day, catching up on uni work :(:(

10 AM

running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

warm up only!

orienteering race 1:30:43 [5]

NOL long
This was so fun! I love boboyan, plus it was a beautiful day :)
Had an alright run....made a few mistakes and had too many hesitations, and was being a bit of a pansy through the bush with lots of fallen timber - found it hard to run in parts! However I am satisfied with this, as it was really fun and I feel like I am maybe starting to remember how to orienteer well again. :)

Saturday May 4, 2013 #

9 AM

running warm up/down 25:00 [3]

orienteering race 21:00 [5]

NOL sprint (can't remember exact time)
Had an alright run, though the whole time I was thinking "jeez I'm going slowly" - not so much physically slowly but just mentally I wasn't rushing or being aggressive at all, and was really taking my time to make route choice decisions. Don't know why I wasn't really racing properly?? Maybe I've forgotten how....anyway, it was fun!
2 PM

running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

orienteering race 56:30 [5]

NOL middle
Not a great run - made quite a lot of ~1min mistakes, just being scrappy in the circle and not keeping contact well enough. On the plus side I felt reasonable running!

Friday May 3, 2013 #

7 AM

running 25:00 [3]

easy jog with some strides to try and remind my legs how to turn over more quickly before this weekend. Seemed to help a little!

Thursday May 2, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Another unintentional rest day...woops. My excuse today is that I had the first of a series of 6 hr pracs (followed by another 2hr lab for anatomy) which totally killed me. Atleast I learned that I DO NOT want to work in a lab when I graduate haha.

Wednesday May 1, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Didn't intend on having a rest day but when I thought about going for a run after uni I realised I was just so exhausted!! Haven't eaten meat in more than a month (woops) so maybe iron levels are low...
