orienteering 50:00 [3]

Was already debating whether to run or not (on account of shin) so when I saw that the course lengths were much more than expected I made the decision to just do 50min of oing and then stop and dnf. Didn't think it'd be worth smashing my leg just to finish the race....disappointing way to end the 5 days, but I'm surprised I managed to run every day as I expected my shin to be much worse.
Didn't do the controls in order, just chose random ones and did them for 50mins at a chilled pace. Was pretty fun!

Day 4 at rowdy flat, also one of my favourite maps :D
Made a ~3min mistake early when I caught a few girls and got distracted - whoops. Then saw the long leg as going to the control in the middle of the line connecting 8 and 9 or whatever....anyway consequently lost a lot of time from doing a stupid route choice and missing the fast route out on the big track. After that made some more small mistakes and was generally scrappy, probably because I had just faceplanted and was feeling dazed haha.
So pretty annoyed at the run in a whole
Shin bit sore but ok

Day 3 at kangaroo crossing - one of my favourite maps!! Made a bad (~3min) mistake early, from then was happy with it but of course was just slow and not pushing the pace much. Again happy with controlling my nerves and ignoring others.
Shin pretty sore after.....

Day 2
Not so good today, quite a few mistakes and got stuck in a huge green patch on the way to the first one (reckon I lost near 3mins just thrashing through it!!)
Again held back on the speed and just cruised along at a comfortable (slow) pace

orienteering race 49:00 [4]

Day 1 of Xmas 5 day. Pretty hot, and ran into a massive brown snake on the way to no1 which had the adrenaline surging! Anyway, navigation wasn't too bad, some small mistakes. Held myself back on the speed just to focus on nailing the controls.
Happy with my ability to ignore others and not get distracted! Result wasn't great but am pleased for my first proper O race for a very long time...

No warm ups or downs for any of the days as I'm saving my shin, and am not really 'racing' yet anyway

Same route as last week, though not quite as far! Temp was in the 30s and it was quite sunny so i died and got sooooo thirsty, it was awful! Anyway, got through it!
Shin felt a little weird at times, hope it's going to be ok for 5 days of orienteering in a row at the 5 days...

Nice run out in the sunshine- such a nice day today! Legs felt good but went too soon after lunch and felt really sick :( not a good combo. Pushed on but it was a bit slower than I would have liked

intervals: 30mins of 1min hard, 1min easy...found it really hard!! maybe did the 1min hard too hard to start with, cuz i was stuffed by halfway! pushed on and didn't slow too much (3 efforts in the middle were uphill though, and they were really slow!)

Supposed to swim today as well...but walked around doing some mapping so got some low intensity exercise anyway

Nice long run from home out to Creswick/St Georges Lake via the great dividing trail or whatever it's called these days. Felt alright, a little tired when going uphill. Was stuffed for the last 15mins - sooo hungry and thirsty! A good run though :)

Went out to do some O ints @ creswick diggings, mother did the same thing but we did it separately because at this stage i just want to focus on getting it right without distractions. Bit mixed - made some really dumb mistakes and was generally trying to run too fast for my nav., but some were ok and i felt like i remembered how to do it all at speed.
Felt pretty good running and shin was fine even in O shoes.

8x65sec hills. meant to be 80sec but i was already feeling quite blah, so when the first hill was too short i cbf'd moving to a longer one. was quite a struggle sesh, but good for mental toughness!
shin alright. got new orthotics but am not supposed to wear them yet...

same session as last thursday: 8min hard, 8min easy, 6min hard, 6min easy, 4min hard, 4min easy (which was actually walking cuz i was tired haha).
Felt quite good! Mostly undulating for each effort. Thought i was going fastish, but still have lots of work to do.
Shin was pretty good, felt it in the warm down (only vaguely though). Am going to ease off the terrain running for a while because I dont think it likes that, and i may have rushed into it too fast.

Putting out tapes for Roch's training at creswick diggings. I really enjoyed it, and think I got all the tapes in the right spot!
Would have loved to participate in the training but unfort my shin was just too sore and it would have been foolish. SO SO OVER IT :( :( :(

hills: 8x80sec. a bit concerned about my shin so made it easier by walking the recovery and choosing an easy hill (slight gradient). shin turned out to be mostly fine, but had a bit of discomfort near the end...dont know if that was the bony injury or just tightness in my tib ant.
anyway, was feeling good but couldnt get my legs to go fast enough! still feeling like im really lacking speed.....guess i've got a long time to develop that though, there's no rush! :)

Tempo effort around the terrain loops: 8min hard, 8min easy, 6min hard, 6min easy, 4min hard, 4min easy. Felt ok, not great. Slow on the hills and upon reflection I think I could have pushed a bit harder....naughty! Good strength training in the pines though.
Shin hurt occasionally and feels a bit fragile now. Dunno if it's the terrain running or the o shoes (didn't wear them today) but I shall watch it carefully

warm up and down. lovely summers day in ballarat: 8 degrees when we left home!!! wore my thermal and didnt get too hot :/

orienteering intervals 56:16 [4]

went out to creswick diggings to do some hard Oing, pretty much O ints. it was awesome! actually felt like i was orienteering for once! it wasnt perfect and i still made mistakes, but felt a lot better than sunday :D
felt quite good running but shin was a little sore at some points....dont think it likes O shoes very much, and i wore them for the first time in 7months today (with my orthotics).
(time includes recoveries between ints, some of which were walking for <2mins)

gin made me stretch after our O session, plus iced my shin and applied some fisiocrem. glutes are really tight.

Glad to have a rest day today - feeling tired after yesterday and also had a shocking sleep worrying about getting my uni results today

Rochs O training out near daylesford, time includes warm up with ping. Had some good courses set with the aim of comparing route choice: straight or track option
Made a major major MASSIVE error on the first long one, got really close to nailing it then saw some pine trees (of which there is no indication of on the map) so flipped out and thought I was somewhere else where pines are on the map. so ran around god knows where and ended up back near number one. Soooo annoying. The rest wasn't great, was off on a lot. Did part of the course again after I finished and it went a bit better, but was pretty stuffed.
Guess I'm still pretty rusty!!! Got a decent run in anyway, and awesome that so many people turned up to the training! Vic is the place to be ;)

Did a kind of 4hour score event sort of thing around ballarat with gin. Didn't run much but was on my legs for most of it so was too tired to do anything that arvo
