made the decision not to do a 6am run this morning so i could get some vitamin D, and so i would have some energy from breakfast.
felt pretty blah though, stomach was gross for most of it which didnt make it very pleasant. went from home to do a little loop in what remains of majura pines, then home the same way. actually got boiling hot even though it was only 14 degrees, guess im not used to midday sun on my runs!
shin was good, didnt wear orthotics (did yesterday).

jumped on the trainer straight after i got home from my run. legs were fine, stomach started feeling better too.

Easy run with jacqui :D we went up to ainslie, around a bit, then home. It was fun! Good to have someone to chat with to make the time go faster :)

to/from uni

wanted to do a ride this arvo, but am still wary of this weird sore throat and headache/tiredness i've had over the last few days....so on the advice of the knowledgable gin i shall just do a stretching session :)

running hills 59:57 [5]

Went up to ainslie and did 5x80sec hills (singletrack) with walk recovery. Legs felt quite low in energy but I was stuffed after each one so I guess it was a good session. Quite a long warm up and down to my desired hill.
Two weeks since I got my orthotics so ran in them today, along with my new shoes. Expected I'd have to take them out at some point but they were actually really good! Didn't get blisters. Site of stress fracture didn't hurt but another spot on my tibia did a bit. And my L knee also felt a bit sore near the end...but I think that's expected as my body adjusts to the orthotics.

Got a mad sore throat today, woops maybe I'm not resting enough. Or sleeping enough. Cant sleep in past 5.30am gah.
Anyway, if this throat develops into anything I will be very upset.

Easy run up to ainslie, around there a bit and then back. Really really nice morning, perfect temp and not a cloud in the sky. Felt ok, but was a bit tired on the hills. Shin was good but is a bit swollen.

Easy run with moth around nerrina. Was actually quite a sunny, nice day for ballarat! Very muddy in places so it wasn't super fast. Felt ok though, shin was a bit sore a the start but then was good.
Going to miss the forest :( only 6 or so weeks until I can come back :D

Went out to the map used for the first NOL middle this year to do some O training with the Prendergasts, who'd set a sick course in the mining. it was so fun! caught mother at control 3 (only because she was putting out tapes, i have no doubt she is faster than me now) so we did the rest of the controls together, taking turns to navigate and talking about what our plan was. it was good!

shin was a little sore running, so even though this session wasnt long i might call it a day.

did some ints on the track out next to the pines - just did 4 x 90secs with a long recovery. felt pretty tired in the legs so glad i didnt have to do more. very slow longer warm down. bumped into some logging trucks felling a nice section :( should still be heaps of good stuff for terrain running this summer :D
so pretty and green around ballarat!

shin was good, but soleus etc are tight.

legs a bit stiff and sore, but it was really fun :)

Vic long at kangaroo crossing.
Nav today was better than yesterday, but still very rusty and lost a lot of time just from hesitations due to lack of confidence. And also slow though the terrain as it was rough and I wasn't confident on my leg.

Happy with the weekend though, as 1) my shin didn't hinder me (and hopefully is getting better) and 2) I actually enjoyed it and remembered why I used to love oing. :)

Vic champs. Wikkid map, but my god I haven't orienteered in ages and it showed!!! Horribly slow through the terrain, horribly sloppy navigation...and that doesn't make a good combination for this kind of map.
Anywayyyy, not taking O seriously right now so this was just for fun. (but to be honest it would have been more fun if I felt like I was actually doing ok). AND my shin didn't hurt AT ALL!!! Booyah :D

easy morning run on bruce ridge single tracks. felt a bit tired, but it was really fun! last time i'll be able to drive there to run :(

shin was good, except for one part when it hurt quite badly for a few steps, then got good again. didnt wear orthotics as am not meant to run in them for a few weeks, just have to start out wearing them normally during the day. which is good because they feel really weird around my arches. like im standing on a little ball :/

physio was gooood. lower legs arent as tight as last week, though site of stress fracture is still swollen and sore, so my tibia is still under a lot of strain in the wrong place.
he said i definitely need proper orthotics. will be expensive but i am willing to pay!! in the meantime he gave me some really good ones that'll do the job for the next few months, but should really get some custom-fit from a podiatrist. hope hope hope it's all going to improve from here....

around the place, including into uni to submit my assignment.....unfortunately realised i have another prac report to write that i'd completely forgotten about!! it's ok cuz i have one day to do it.. :/

felt quite tired riding and cut it shorter than i was intending.

Sweeet early run at ainslie, it was so good. went to do a cool loop in majura pines, but then heard trees being felled nearby which was a little scary so i bailed haha. saw some cute joeys, one of which was so small i dont think it had enough fur to be warm enough to leave the pouch!
felt pretty good, legs were tired on the hills though. shin was really good, but felt it a bit near the end.

wanted to run this morning, but would have had to leave at 5am and had no other time during the day, spent it all doing info sessions/meetings/interviews/tours of uniSA and adelaide. probably good to rest the body as the past few days have been exhausting, but also great as i learnt that i can get a scholarship to study at uniSA next year, which pretty much sealed the deal for that!

easy morning run from the hotel in adelaide just around some parkland and then to the river and along there for a bit. dont really know where i went but that was half the fun!! really impressed with the parks surrounding the city, could totally cope with running there for a year or more.
was surprised to see only one other person out (apart from people driving)...then i remembered it was a sunday morning. adelaide seems pretty dead on a sunday morning.

sweet 'long' run on bruce ridge. not very cold this morning which was nice. just cruised on the single tracks and did a little single track loop in black mtn too. felt good running-wise, and lasted ok (except got v hungry).

shin wasnt too bad, worse at start then got better after halfway. sore spot on tibia is a little sorer than it has been, and has a bit of fluid around it....but i was playing it by ear and didnt push it when i shouldnt have. sooo hopefully it's not going to get bad again.

Morning run to majura pines, little loop in there, then back. So pretty much all single tracks. Felt pretty good but was really hungry. Also woke up at 4.30 and my brain started going over all the landmarks of the cranium, so I couldn't go back to sleep :(
Tibia good 90% of the time. Happy with that for now, better not get worse though.

'long' ride for the week. didnt really have time to do it all at once, so had to do an hour in the morning then the rest in the evening. Struggled a bit in the morning as it was not long after my run, and the wind started getting pretty strong around the lake.
Anyhoo, hopefully still got the desired training effects.

Not all in one go, includes to/from physio

Yayy physio was good. Well, he said I was very tight in my lower legs, tarsals, glutes and ofcourse my shin was bad....however he found the source of all my problems! As I thought, my arches collapse when I run and it forces me to run on the edge of my big toe which puts stress on my tibia etc etc etc so long story short I need orthotics, real ones not the ones you can buy off a shelf.
In the meantime he's taped the hell out of my feet, which I'm to try for a few days. If that doesn't work then.....I have to go back to square one and stop running :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

lovely spring morning for a run....... -6 degrees, apparent temp of -9.7 (when i got out of bed). HA! it was awesome.
shin was sore so cut the run short. think i just need a new strip of kinesio tape, swear by that stuff!
