Down the Waiohine to Totora flats hut. Only one boat for the majority of it which was a bit sad as the river was quite nice for pack rafting. Lots of swimming and ferrying with one boat (repair job lasted about an hour, should have done a better job last night but were all too buggered, would be a disaster in GZ not to be able to fix boat)

First bit of Tumeke starting at 11pm Thursday night from Waikawa camp near Otaki. Ridge top bush travel mostly and a difficult navigation descent down to Island Forks biv, out river to Waitawaewae hut.

Paddling (other) (Pack raft) 4:00:00 [3]

Down the Otaki river to Whatiuru river.

Pretty solid section of river which resulted in a lot of portaging. Not enough water to paddle a lot of it but more water would most likely only made for more difficult portaging! No other teams paddled this river which was probably a good thing. I was a bit nervous to begin with but Stu is the man and I was feeling much more comfortable by the end. Had developed a good system of communication and I was able to help manoeuvre the boat more.

Ash and Brent ruined the kneeling pillow on Big Yellow when they got wrapped around rock and put a hole in the tube about 100m from the end.

Ride with Brent around Sharlands. Feeling like a bit of a shock to the system after all the walking but ok.

Run off the bike with Brent. Horrid.

Good to get the training out of the way early in the day. Then lots of tea drinking and napping.
