Running 30:00 [3]

Terrible sleep last night at the Waddtage as a porcupine screeched non stop from 2-5:30am. But with my students needing to run errands before field work today I got some training in. Easy loops around the Gula Stigen.

Strength 20:00 [3]

Dynamite Core followed by stretching in the Waddtage loft.

Note
(rest day)

Full day of field work at NOBEL. Bugs were sporadically nasty. Forgot my bug hat and sporadically paid for it.

Beauty of a morning ride with Tarno to Copetown and back

Running 50:00 [3]

Retro TNT with a bunch of regulars and a bunch of 2016 Sulphur Springs relay team wannabees (including me). I've got 51.5 weeks to try to figure out how to train to break 110 minutes. I only ran 7 of 8 intervals because I only drank 7 of the 8 beers the other night.

Cycling 40:00 [3]

Easy spin despite a wee headache. This was enjoyed last evening;

Thanks Joany and Mark for the invite. We had a wonderful time.

Note

19 years ago today I almost beat Tarno for the first and only time in a running race. He beat me by just over 2 minutes in the Sulphur Springs 50K.

Cycling 2:30:00 [3]

Long ride with Tarno on the frail trail. Then a wonderful evening at Brux for dinner with Mark and Joany., Etoile and AG,and Tracy, Turdo and Anvil.
Drank a half year's worth of beer and loved it! (AG drove us home). ;-). Thanks Baloney and Trav!

Note

To all the Sulphur SPrings relay runners (and Tim and Patrick): you are welcome to use our hot tub after the race. I'll be working in the back yard so just stop by. Good luck in the race. I hope to make it out to watch a bit of the race.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Nice run along Bruce Trail in Niagara with theGriz over lunch. Ugh. REALLY out of shape.

We had a good chat about all thinks ARK and ARX. So if ARK were to ever expand into new areas in southern Ontario. What are the best locations?

Running 30:00 [3]

Running during and after ARX. Ugh. Out of shape.

Cycling 1:15:00 [3]

Solo rail trail ride. This is a pretty boring ride if you aren't chatting away with a brilliant scientist trying to solve the world's medical problems.

Strength 25:00 [3]

TurboCore (50%) with AG! in the WaddSquad WOD Cave

Monday May 18, 2015 #

Swimming 5:00 [3]

Annual May 2-4 weekend Georgian Bay 'swim'.
Time rounded wayyyy up to nearest 5 minutes. ;-).

I wasn't as brave as Wil was with his long swim.

I also wasn't brave to tackle the Gula Stigen after we saw a > 1m long Eastern Hog Nose snake on the property.

Happy Norwegian Indepedence Day!! SPent the day doing 'spring clean up' at the Waddtage trying to figure out how to fast track our move up here.

Canada 6 - Russia 1
All is good.

easy easy spin after a week of fieldwork in hot, sunny and dry northern Alberta. How dry? Well the dew point was -7C and the RH dropped to 13% on our final day. If their weather doesn't break this weekend then look for lots of fires to pop up in central and northern AB next week.

Note

Congrats to Patrick, Dana and Meghan on all the ARK participation numbers success lately.

ARK: >900 kids

Schools Challenge: > 1100 kids

ARK Mud Run: >500 kids (and front page of the Hamilton Spectator).

Note

A photo from earlier this week...
Most of the windows and doors are now on the Waddtage. The balcony coming off the master bedroom on second floor is being built in this photo. Should be a decent view (with some targeted branch trimming) of the hole-in-the-wall on Huckleberry Is.

Easy spin at the hotel after a day of travel to Edmonton and several meetings. I'm off to Slave Lake tomorrow for six days in prep for research on a prescribed burn in a black spruce peatland. Forecast is looking perfect.

Running 20:00 [3]

ARK at Canterbury! So great to be back to this location. Great atmosphere tonight. Makes volunteering that much more special especially when there is so much interest to expand to other southern ontario communities. I had a great meeting with Getawaystix and Hermes the other night about potential ARK expansion to theCollingwood area.

Earlier in the day (and yesterday) had field work research in Nobel again. Couple more hours of trekking the Rock barrens for site selection. Sunny, warm, no bugs, first camp fire of the year. perfect. Sadly it snowed 10cm at my Alberta research sites yesterday - and I'm off to there for a week on Friday. The annual "field work research kills my training hours" trend continues.

Spin at Pulse. Then some rolling and some stretching open up the hips after the long drive yesterday. Legs feel better today than they did on Sunday morning.

Good warm up and while the knee was hurting the legs felt good

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3] ***

Legs felt good today but made mistakes on 5 of the 14 CPs. Missed #1,3,4,5 to start. Settled down and ran well for a few but made an odd nav error to 11. Pushed hard after that and just ignored the knee. Fun terrain. tough and technical at times.

Saturday May 2, 2015 #

Running 10:00 [3]

easy warm-up. Realized jogging to start that the knee pain coupled with the heat that it was going to be a long day.

Orienteering 1:50:00 [3] ***
spiked:21/22c

West Point sufferfest. Tough terrain and heat coupled with a sore knee made for a long race. Very likely the highest time per km I've ever had while still only making <20 seconds of mistakes. Missed #17 which was odd because I walked most of it and was in a crowd. Pushed hard on the short technical legs but wayyyy too much walking. Body seems to be OK after this which is good. So much amazing terrain down here. Brings back great memories of the annual week long training camps with Oivind, Ross, BG, Tedro and friends.

Rail trail to Copetown and back with Tarno. Beauty of a morning for a ride. Body seems to be OK with this lighter level of training. Will try pushing a little harder in West Point.
