A slower rail trail ride with Tarno on a crisp morning. I was super tired on this ride. Only had a few hours of sleep last night do to all the unexpected last minute work for Nationals.
So I find it quite interesting that there is a thread on AttackPoint about how to make major (traditional) orienteering races easier to organize. The sport would be easier to organize if more people would support the volunteers and have a nice positive atmosphere.
There are too many silly rules and one can be super nit picky if they wanted to be. But we have been lucky to be working with our Nationals controllers (Jack Lee, Earle Phillips and Wil Smith). Change requests are made in a very positive way and things that can't follow the rules exactly as outlined because of issues of time, venue restrictions, etc. and won't affect the championship at all are discussed in a positive way (instead of negative and stand off'ish).
That is a good way to make things easier to organize. Be supportive.
If people nit pick after the race they need to know the situations that the organizers are put under. Things that are beyond our control (like non-stop construction on the site of our sprint). The courses had to change again this week. :(
