Note

A GHO clubhouse in the Dundas Valley has been an idea for a long time but perhaps is becoming a necessity given the success of ARK.

Seasonal? Year round? Lodging for our program coordinator? ARK HQ? Canterbury perhaps? Ideas anybody!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 2.74 mi (21:54 / mi) +48m 20:46 / mi

CP pick-up with Pathetic, Etoile and AG! at Sass Woods. A few not-so-epic stream crossings, nice woods, steep hills, lotsa snow and feeling strong :P

Beauty day to be orienteering.

ARK spring session starts tonight. 100+ kids again.

Cycling 20:00 [3]

easy ride to join the TNT crew before the GHO AGM. Very hungry afterwards. Could have gone for a bowl of contour chili but settled for some pace counting pizza.

Cycling 30:00 [3]

Dang Loops on the MTB as Etoile and AG! were introduced to clipless pedals. They did better than I did in my debut (though mine was in a Raid the North race).

Orienteering 10:00 [3]

Went for a hike in the DV while Saik, AdventureGirl! and Etoile test ran one of the AdventureRunning365.ca courses. Ran into Trix and Pathetic part way along.

Then finished off the afternoon with a tough orienteering course (combined with killer core) at the Fransson household. The 63 squats at CP8 after the 50 lunges at CP7 did me in.

1. Saik 9:30
2. AG! 9:37
3. Me 9:38
4. The Old Birthday Boy (aka Sudden)
5. Etoile
7 AM

Cycling 2:45:00 [3] 23.1 mi (7:09 / mi) +448m 6:44 / mi

Ride in the DV (mostly with the SMT crew). Had my first Epic Fail. Still a wee bit woozy after that one.

(rest day)

Time for a new THOMASS?
Here is an idea on how to revive this series

1) Increase to 9 events by utilizing some existing Oct and Apr events
2) Host most of the events when orienteering is best and fewer events during the months where skiing and snowshoeing is more likely (i.e., focus on Oct, Nov, Mar and Apr).
4) Best 5 events to count. Allows people to miss some events.
5) Incorporate more variety into the series. Have events of several different winning times and have some races that are interval starts (but all still include the THOMASS box and handicap).
6) Replace low participation Ont. Relay Champs with new THOMASS Relay. 2 people per team. Each runs two times. POints awarded as 2x50, 2x48, 2x46, etc...
7)Bring in a novice course for kids and newbies in at least 6 of the 9 events which counts towards points series (S. Ontario orienteering is generally very kid UNfriendly).
8) Demand higher map quality (fieldwork AND printing).
9) Increase (aka start) promotion
10) Common web site.

Oct Long (interval start)
Nov Relay (2 people per team, mass start) Stars?
Nov Classic (traditional mass start THOMASS)
Dec Middle (mass start and pursuit)
Jan/Feb Classic (traditional mass start THOMASS)
Mar Classic (traditional mass start THOMASS)
Mar Sprint knockout (mass start) The Eliminator
Apr Middle (interval start)
Apr Long (interval start) Mob match? TOC

Skiing 1:00:00 [3]

AM: long skate on the ice to Huckleberry Island with Wil.

TNT: (Nobel Edition): Skiing at Georgian Nordic with Katta. No toque, no gloves, and sleeves rolled up with some super spring-like skiing. Slow in many spots but another beauty day. Finished the workout with the Prologue of the Daim Cup. Two sprint skiing intervals (hence TNT) of a loop of a section of the Lynx trail.
Katta: 2.15.35 + 2.12.93
Mike: 2.14.28 + 2.13.28

PM: Legs too tired after the ski to take part in the Wadd Squad Gula Stigen competition in the late afternoon. Won by AG in 4.18 (Etoile 7.05).

Monday Mar 14, 2011 #

Skiing 1:50:00 [3]

It doesn't get much better than this. -1C, fast and well groomed tracks, sunny with no clouds in the sky, and the Wadd Squad only saw 2 other people on an almost 2 hour ski at Georgian Nordic. Its like we had our own private ski area today. Sweet!

Happy 40th Bday sis.

Sunday Mar 13, 2011 #

Skiing 2:10:00 [3]

Attack the Trax! at Highlands Nordic. A sorta last minute idea by Tarno to organize a ski-O race and despite v. limited advertising we had a decent turn out with lots of kids. I hadn't planned to race but Tarno said I had to. He should have told me that before I had already put in over an hour of skiing. :-) Fun course but the second time up the hill killed me (4th time that day). Fortunately I was on Tarno's super duper fast skis that kept me in the hunt in the race until I made a 2 minute mistake late in the race.

cool down with patrick. Warm-up could have been better as I spent too long standing around and waiting.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]

THOMASS Stars.
Well designed course by Mick. Left knee sore from start to finish and right knee started to really hurt in the final box. Race followed by an awesome meal at Piller Estates with the Raid committee meeting.

AG! 1st, Daddy way way back in 2nd. ;-)

Note
(rest day)

Is it worth resurrecting this Attack Point group to discuss weekend training
and things?

http://www.attackpoint.org/group.jsp/group_26

I changed the name from GHO Canada GHO. It could be the place for the 'Team Dontgetlost.ca' to share training plans and to link to here:

Thoughts?
