Note

Signed up for the Salomon Giant's Rib Raid with Sudden and Grenade. I'm not sure we will even finish. In the words of #boundless "It's do or die."

Tentative team name is "Tre Gubbar" but I'm sure we can do better. Nav won't be our rate limiting step - hence the team name. Time for google translate.

easy morning spin.

Note

With more snow on the way it looks almost certain that there will be enough snow in mid March to bring back "Attack the Trax - A XC-Ski Navigation Adventure". Attack the Trax is a fundraiser for the Highlands Trailblazers junior programs and will be sponsored by the KW and Hamilton Adventure Running Kids programs. Kids and coaches helping other kids and coaches!

Details are still being finalized by Highlands Nordic and race director Mark Tarnopolsky. However the date will almost certainly be March 17th. More details shortly.

Epic snowshoe in mostly waist deep snow from
Killarney Yurt to "The Crack" and back with super and Hansel. Took turns breaking trail. Started on cranberry loop trail to cranberry bog. Then cross country to Lacloche Silhouette trail. North on the LST and picked
up a snowshoe trail where the trail met the east of Freelands portage. Packed down trail last 2km to "The Crack". Awesome view. Then super fun race downhill in the snow. On way back we trekked into Freelands then on west end of Freelands went cross country again to Cranberry Bog and then back via George lake. Tough training but pleased the knee held up.

Hansel's GPS track now linked to this log (my watch died at 4.5 hours).

(rest day)

Legs still feeling heavy after getting the longest fork (Loop D) in the Icebreaker. ;-) Spent the afternoon and evening boardgaming. Finally learned to play Settlers of Catan but the best game of the day was Escape.

After a morning of tobogganing at the Nottage the Wadd Squad made the most of the -25C wind chill day and enjoyed the most excellent conditions at Georgian Nordic. http://twitter.com/MACecohydrology/status/30328695...

Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] ***
spiked:22/24c

A 'shut up legs'' and 'shut up knees' race. Legs were tired and sore. Still sore from sprint camp? and/or ARX and yesterday's spin didn't help.

Great use of a small area by PH and so good to be racing on a great map. I guess I had the different fork of most of the top racers as I raced from start to box to #2 by myself on both loops. Found breaking trail was easier on the knees so I went straight most of the time. That wasn't the best thing to do race wise but since I elected not to take my handicap since Nick didn't (i.e., he wasn't there) I wanted to practice things that didn't go well last weekend.

Despite v. Sore knees I really enjoyed this O Cup. They are always fun in Caledon.

Thanks to Patrick Tracy and Robin.

Tough ARX workout. Only got to 3 checkpoints but that included 4 dundurn stairclimbs. Suddensson got 5 checkpoints!

ThorCore (and a bit on the bike and more stretching afterwards)

Monday Feb 11, 2013 #

Note

Lots of stretching and rolling today. Legs are quite sore but knees are surprisingly OK. Unfortunately forgot my Pulse card at home so couldn't spin today with Turbo.

Enjoyed watching Canada's Greatest Know it All with the 'head trail master' Pathetic. I don't think we could have asked for better TV coverage. Pathetic, Bender and Getawaystix were awesome! Got me thinking that you could probably do a cool reality TV show based all around navchallenges. Now if I only knew a TV star..... ;-)

177 checkpoints in 48 hours! Only managed to miss 26 of them (likely a new record for most non spiked checkpoints in one weekend).

Note

Left the Hammer at 4:30am for a 10am flight from YYZ. No problems getting in since so little traffic. Flight not cancelled. Board plane on time and now 90 minutes later still at gate and we were just told YYZ is only able to de-ice 8 planes an hour and there are 20 ahead of us. Air Canada is so poor at giving info. Serves me right for not flying out of Hamilton.

Ummm so AG! and I will miss all of day#1 of sprint camp in Vancouver. Wishing we were snowshoeing in the DV right now.

Totally disappointing.

Orienteering 15:00 [3] ***

After about a 16 hour 'commute' (incl. 5 hours on Tarmac at YYZ) AG! and I got to Vancouver just as darkness fell in time for a 16 minute sprint course jog. We missed the race at BCPlace unfortunately.

spiked:10/10c

ARX set-up and generally jogging around. Temps dropped once it got dark.

Kids liked the competitive aspect of tonight's work-out. A couple ARX kids came over to the house afterwards and AG! gave a presentation on Catching Features. I wonder if ARK can buy a mega-license for CF? Kids like computers. ARK has most kids in orienteering in North America. Hmmmm.

Speaking of sprint orienteering will this new shoe replace the Inov8 X-talons as the shoe of choice?

OK after much scientific evidence the ITTF (indoor training toughness factor) ranks as follows: Friday Pyscho Cycle Spin > Wednesday Pyscho Cycle Spin> Tuesday HITT Spin > Monday MAC Cycle Spin >> a 'super' treadmill 'workout' = 'man making' chest thumpin' fitness.
