Orienteering 2:15:00 [3]

Snowshoe orienteering with theGriz setting up part of the GRR. Deep and heavy snow made for a very tough workout.

Course is totally sweet! There is gonna be interesting race strategies in the middle of the course.

Skiing 15:00 [5]

Wow! That OT has gotta count as training. I nearly had a heart attack!

Not only hockey gold but Canada now owns the record for most Gold Medals at a Winter Olympics! Woooooooo.

Where were you when...."Crosby Scores for Canada!"

Note

Hey who else saw Bender and Venus on TV at the Closing Ceremonies?

An awesome (but painful) ski on an awesome day at Horseshoe with the Griz. Cool to see the maze of snowshoe tracks winding through the hills of Copeland Forest. Lotsa long climbs and the legs were burning.
2 PM

Skiing 25:00 [3]

went out again to push the training over the 2 hour mark but had to settle for double poling as the knee was getting too sore and the leg muscles were hurtin' so I cut it short.

I listened to a very interesting discussion while driving home from the snow on the Fan590 about Canada's performance at the Olympics and whether there should be more or less funding for elite sport. Stephen Brunt from the Globe and Mail (and a Hamilton boy) had some great points about national pride, healthy communities and inspiring kids. It was great that they used men's 30K XC skiing as an example of a success of 'Own the Podium'. (NBC showed this race live yesterday and coverage was awesome). If you were to tell me 10 years ago that 3 Canadian men would be in the top 10 at an Olympics XC ski race and ahead of ALL Norwegians I would have laughed my ass off. But they did it. How did they do it? Can Canadian orienteering learn from their awesome success?

Then on the Fan590 there was discussion on why is the XC skiing result yesterday considered a success but Canada's increasing list of 4th, 5th, and 6th place finishes from medal hopes in other sports considered a failure?

There was also discussion of whether the 'Own the Podium' is a failure? There was discussion about that it was too Un-Canadian and too American like to make a statement like that. But if it is true that there was unprecedented private donations then perhaps making high goals like that is needed to attention grab. Now the worry is that Harper will cut all the cash next month. But Brunt said he thinks that this should be an election issue. Have Canadian's ever been asked if we want sport to be highly funded. Show the numbers on how this decreases health care costs. Show the pride that Canadians have that we are now a sporting nation that needs to be taken seriously and will push to be among the very best in the World. So perhaps this Own the Podium is just the beginning?

Running 3:00:00 [3]

Snowshoe Raid with Super. Fun race but perhaps easier than recent years but we still got to break trail and do our own nav for the first hour which while slow was lotsa fun. We Got exactly the number of points we set out to get but clearly #54 was under valued.

Thanks again Super. I had one of the most enjoyable times in a race in the last few years but sorry we didn't live up to our name.

Scott Taylor’s CITI Sports Reports

92 CITI FM IS AN OFFICIAL STATION OF THE VANCOUVER 2010 OLYMPIC RADIO NETWORK.

OK, here’s the rumour: Wealthy David Thomson of Toronto, the man who most of the shares of the MTS Centre and True North Sports and Entertainment in Winnipeg, has purchased the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League and will move them to Winnipeg for the 2010-11 season. The Moose will move to Saskatoon. The announcement will be made right after the Olympics. Believe whatever it is you want to believe.

Thomass UKR. 4th area this year that i had not orienteered on before which is cool and fun. But often less is more. You know just like training. Quality not quantity.

Fun times at the movies with the wadd squad, MrP and the Tree huggers afterwards. Race across the Sky. Lance reduced the Gombie factor greatly.

Skiing 30:00 [3]
