today I learned what was causing a lot of my troubles in 18+ hour races. I have a tendency for fainting and light headedness. Gotta stay hydrated and stress-free....which probably means more coke and donuts.
Horseshoe North with Wadd Squad. Most enjoyable ski in a very very long time. Snow (heavy at times) and a half hour where we saw nobody.
Adventure Girl! had no troubles on the steep red loop downhills. Only fell (twice) while standing still on the flats. It was fun to see all the snowshoe tracks through the forest from the Raid the day earlier.
Salomon Snowshoe Raid!! Over 170 racers were treated to a great course by Bob Miller.
Our awesome sponsor agreed to give free shoes to any team that could clear the course in the 3 hour time limit. Nobody did. Sudden and Turbo took the win.
I raced with Bash who chose a great route and a late surge got us to the finish with no time to spare and a points total equal to bent and Eugene. But they beat us inby a few minutes. But 2nd masters and tied for 6th overall out of about 85 teams is a great debut.
Was worried about the knee since i havent raced this long since before the knee injury in 2006. but it held up for the most part with the exception of a 40 minute section in the middle that hurt after a hyper extension.
trying to loosen up the hip which has been tight for a week or two now

while editing a paper. just keeping the legs loose. no training planned for thursday and then some snowshoeing and skiing on Friday before the Salomon Snowshoe Raid on Saturday with Bash.
Really looking forward to this race. Over 80 teams are registered!
I'm behind on uploading my boring training (aka cycling, core and yoga) from the week. knee almost better so will test it tomorrow. thought I'd throw this photo up from the DV for inspiration...
Had no plans to race this today as the knee was sore from the run on Saturday. Had hoped to race the box and catch up to Adventure Girl! (who can skip the entire box) and jog with her until the 2nd box. Unfortunately, she got mixed up in the snowy trails and so I never saw her. Instead I found myself racing pretty hard as the vitamin I had kicked in. Got into a good pace and was moving up the leader board only to have my right snowshoe break in half in a very deep area of snow. After spending some time trying to fix it (and with many people passing me) I just took 'em off and ran the rest of the way carrying them. Ran out of gas with about 5min to go. No idea what my time was. Maybe about 52 min?? Another few minutes of warm-up and cool down. Well planned race course. Lotsa fun with great post race food and then post-post race food at Tobler and Mocha's house.
No starting part way around the SMT course this week for me. Did the entire thing but opted out of some of the hill climbs in the woods. Can't remember when I last did the entire SMT but after getting home and having a hot tub I fell asleep for an hour. Was hurtin' early in the run then felt better but the road at the end killed the knee.
K2 was great again... cold, windy, lotsa climb, snowy and a lack of oxygen (it killed me this week and I was really weezing).
A good test for the Snowshoe Raid in the cool whip.
Long day at work and missed the Wed. evening snowshoe with Tarno. Too bad cause next week the snow may be gone. Cycling was likely better since I fell on ice early in the week and injured the injured knee.
VERY tough snowshoe orienteering in the Hilton Falls area with theGriz. Deep snow but wet from the warm day. Only covered about half of what we planned. Total time was 3.5 hours but we probably were stopped for about 45 minutes with the planning. This year's course is awesome and just wait for the pre-race hype about the first 5km section of the course. You'll have to wait until late March for that.
