COC Long - DNF. Its time to start running masters on the long races. Was thinking of switching to M35 but 11K in flat terrain sounded do-able. But it was actually much longer than that and so I quit once I started to get tired.
Started out well from #1 to #7 but then coming into #8 I started reading into #9. Luckily still found #8 but then started reading #9 to #10 out of 8. Took a while to recover.
Another reason to get new knees. Not only I am out of shape but I don't get to enjoy all that this awesome sport has to offer. Sucks.
Sweet Terrain. Awesome Map. Its time to get some basemaps made of similar terrain in the Parry Sound area.
Earlier in the year I had high goals for today's middle COCs. But the knee didn't cooperate this year and training was poor again so I knew that the thick, technical and flat terrain which suits me just fine would require a perfect run to be anywhere near the top.
I started out fairly aggressive and had a great few first controls (beat Mike Smith to #1 by one second and only 3 back of Andersson) but I then battled through some 'yellow' marshes that I knew the later runners would find easier once it tracked up and realized I was having trouble maintaining concentration. I then made an error on the way to #5 on the trail network. Dumb dumb dumb error. Then I'm not sure if the minute I lost frustrated me or not but I then uncharacteristically missed three of the next four CPs. DUmb and dumber. Had trouble relocating on CP8 but realized later that the control circle obliterated an entire hill. Grrr. Had trouble with my bearings too. Went left a lot. Silly errors. My GPS tracking shows I was within 5m of #7 and #8 but never saw it. Guess I need to wear my glasses because that would have saved my race.
Lost the fight at that time and it was no surprise that that was then the knee really started to hurt and the lack of energy after yesterday's ordeal set in. So went into coasting mode which is never good.
Disappointed with my run but I enjoyed the terrain. I like it when it is tougher like today though there wasn't as much (any?) of the open rock I was expecting.
BUT I beat Sudden so I gain valuable trash talk rights at club training this autumn.

warm-up, cool down. Feeling blah. Great dinner with the Wadd Squad, Smiths, Griz and Sudden after the race.
Easy paddle on the StL after an evening of barfing. heat stroke? food poisoning? dunno but I'm feeling pretty weak right now so not sure I'll race on Friday.
1K swim in St Lawrence. Time uncertain but I'm starting to enjoy this. Its been a long time since I did a lot of swim training but I have absolutely no interest in doing a triathlon.
Note
Now if only someboday would do this for orienteering and adventure running:
