Orienteering race 1:17:30 [3] 3.7 km (20:57 / km) +115m 18:08 / km
shoes: VJ Bold

Wet, karst, one mistake on no 8 where I thought I was one depression over from where I was, otherwise clean, just mincing in the terrain and legs feeling tired. Should have been 2 or 3 places higher - very relieved to see how many others were out for a long time on a "middle" race, better placed than yesterday.

Event: Easter4

6 PM

Orienteering race 20:46 [5] 31.0 km (40 / km)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Koper sprint.
Mistakes on 7 and 13, which were frustrating.
As the old lady of W35 I was pleased not to be last!!
Not as complicated or narrow as Cres but a couple of good legs and a fun course.
Bring on the karst tomorrow :)

Orienteering 57:50 [3] 5.3 km (10:55 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

Back into Slovenia for today - compass work in relatively featureless scrubland with relatively limited visibility.
Hol found compasses really don't like working accurately with a mahoosive bubble, so left me at no 5 to complete the course.
Major oops on no 9 - parallel error on the walled enclosures (assumed I had drifted right - I had on all the others) and wasn't really concentrating. Kept relocating off the wall corner by the path or from the walled enclosure to the south of the wall corner by the path. Eventually worked out what was going on!!
24 hours recovery time - race 1 tomorrow evening is the Koper old town sprint :)

Orienteering 1:04:00 [3] 4.2 km (15:14 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

A bit of corridor/contour only/windows training for me while Hol did the course on a complete map. We met up at each control for a catch up. Much better all around :)

1 PM

Orienteering 20:45 [3] 1.5 km (13:50 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

The rest of my middle race from last year - except that I did 12-13-14-15 in a squiffly way. 3 minutes faster than that part of the course last year, and I was lots fitter then... shows how hot it was!

Orienteering 46:51 [3] 3.5 km (13:23 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

Back to the olive groves. Only 23 degrees this year!!
Better than last time, but I was doing them 1 or 2 controls at a time then having a break to let Hol stay ahead. Was nice to have banners out :)

Didn't notice last year (oops!!) - no north lines on the map...
3 PM

Orienteering 21:53 [3] 2.8 km (7:49 / km)
shoes: Hoka Clifton 2

Sprintervals around Cres.
Gave Hols a couple of minutes start on me each time and she held it together before cracking on the third one.
So intricate - this is mapped at 1:2000 - and beautiful. Could have done without being stuck behind the SAGA tour between 6 & 7 on the last interval :)

Orienteering 2:00:00 [2] 4.5 km (26:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

Day 1 of the pre-Easter4 training camp.
Collected our maps from the bar and headed back along the track (no punctures yet) to the car park.
Just me & Hols today, so no banners out in the forest.
Took it in turns to do a leg each.
Cooler than last summer, still just as beautiful, but Hols first experience of this sort of terrain and it attacked her from all sides, taking some of her motivation, too.
The girl done good, though.

1 PM

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] 2.0 km (30:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Bold

We decided the other course he had planned for us didn't look like as much fun as my middle race from last year, so we started on that, with Hols doing all the navigating.
It's not a good idea to coach your own kids. I suggest she look at her map & compass more often and she, well...
Eventually we get going again, and she got to 11 with only a little help at no 6 before deciding to call it quits there as her heels are sore.
Tomorrow is sprintervals in the old town and olive groves with a coach load of Swedes joining us. It should be more civil!
