Orienteering race 39:00 [5] **** 3.5 km (11:09 / km)
ahr:176 max:194 spiked:16/20c (injured) shoes: VJs

British Middles on Stanton Moor. Hip feeling surprisingly good, & decided to race and retire if there was a twinge so I don't jeopardise BOC proper.
Standing in the start lanes, all concentration went to pot when Chris said on commentary that Hols had just finished in the lead on W10 - my baby was British Champion. I was still celebrating as I picked up my map and set off :)
Ballsed up 1 & 2 then pulled myself together. Climbed the gate between 5 & 6, & while I was on top, it gently swung open - got a very funny look as a junior just ran on through!
Lots of cautious ascending & descending through the quarries, then got distracted by other controls heading for 12.
After that, it was just run hard, & I tried.
4th in the end, happy with that :)
Well done Hols!!

Wonder if I need an exercise ECG - a few spikes in HR that don't fit with HR trace, but again are genuine.

Orienteering race 17:24 [5] 2.1 km (8:17 / km)
ahr:172 max:201 (injured) shoes: Adidas Durano

Qualifier.
Voltarol before I started, & tried to keep heart rate 170-175, rather than pushing too hard and risking too much more damage to the hip before the final, hoping to get into the A final.
Poor planning ahead to number 5, otherwise it was quite straightforward.

Made it through to the A final, all in one piece :) Bit of an odd time between 8 & 9 where I became aware of my heartbeat feeling odd - it was at 200 & a bit palpitationy. Slowed down a bit & tried to forget about it, & looking on Garmin it wasn't just a poor connection/artefact, but was genuine.

Orienteering race 17:55 [5] *** 2.1 km (8:32 / km)
ahr:181 max:189 spiked:14/17c (injured) shoes: Adidas Durano

Ate well, drank well, wore compression tights, bits & pieces of stretching, forgot the cooling gel Jeremy gave me, and warmed up on the way to the start with Hols.
Decided to go for it, and once I got going, never saw my heart rate below 182.
Caught sight of Sophie as she was coming out of 4, so knew I was having a good run. Never quite caught her, & took some different routes (8, 12 & 13).
Finished to hear Chris say I was in the lead, then sat it out, listening hard, and no-one was mentioned as coming in to take the lead, so hoped I had made it onto the podium. Was fab to hear me announced as winner in the roundup, and got to stand on top of the podium!
A shame there were no "big" names there to beat, but you can only beat those who are there, and I am British Champion!!

Voltarol is good stuff :)
Will take tomorrow very easy to give myself a better chance of a good result at BOC proper.

Treatment (Physio) 45:00 [0]

More stretching out, done properly, and although it was tight to start off with, it eased out quickly. Then ultrasound, then gaffer tape. It's blue, and will last 5 days :)
No reason not to run on Saturday if I can put up with the pain. Not going to do myself any more damage.

Note

Control hanging for Chasers training ahead of the British Sprints. Head to head racing fun (amongst other exercises) and 43 Chasers out. Fab.
