9 AM

MTB 7:00:00 [3] 22.5 km (18:40 / km)
(injured)

Wrestling the big green monster through the old upper Takaka track which is definitely not built for fully laden touring tandems!! Actually, it was not as horrific as I had imagined so I had fun. I mostly jogged along behind when M could ride or was busy ferrying backs and trying to help carry tandems (and probably getting in the way!). Finally got to ride once we got to the end of the track as we cruised (bounced along) to Moonsilver.

No cycle tourists (no surprise) but one crazy mtber passed us not long after the big river crossing. I think he thought we were a bit mad especially as he was not having fun. I was having fun so it amused me.

Road Bike 8:00:00 [3] 107.4 km (4:28 / km)
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

All started off well cruising over the backroads of the Tadmore Saddle to Tapawera then along the back roads next to the Motueka River. But then the climb up to Flora Saddle was something I would like to never experience again!! Or at least not on with a fully-laden touring tandem! We nearly gave up but not long after met Jan and Ian coming down in their car which gave us a much-needed boost of encouragement. Fun times mtbing from the saddle down to the Gridirons though which made everything worth it.

2 cycle tourists, both on mountain bike setups along the Motueka River going the other way. Chatted to one of them for quite a while.

Thursday Dec 29, 2016 #

10 AM

Road Bike 4:00:00 [3] 67.0 km (3:35 / km)
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Cruising up the river then along the horribly busy highway to Murchison then over the Braeburn to Rotoroa which was tough going as I wasn't feeling too crash hot.

5 cycle tourists...or at least I think it was 5 but could have been more as there was this couple I think we saw 3 times (on the road, in the Four Square, at a cafe). I'm getting confused.

Wednesday Dec 28, 2016 #

10 AM

Road Bike 5:30:00 [3] 107.2 km (3:05 / km)
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Cruising up the coast then up the Buller to Lyell on the tandem with M and Cris whizzing along in front. Many cafe stops! Nice and hot by the time we reached Lyell.

3 cycle tourists going the other way...and Cris.

Tuesday Dec 27, 2016 #

7 AM

Road Bike 19:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Wobbly ride to the train station.
2 PM

Road Bike 2:30:00 [3] 45.0 km (3:20 / km)
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Miserable ride in the torrential rain into a howling headwind from Greymouth to Punakaiki.

1 cycle tourist going the other way.

Monday Dec 26, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Boxing day sales at all the outdoor stores then packing...so much packing (or, more specifically, so little room for so much gear!).

Sunday Dec 25, 2016 #

10 AM

Run 1:01:42 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Along the river then wading through deep grass in the hills and back. So the ankle is on a very slow progression of improvement (extremely slow!) but the running fitness is on a rapid decline!

Saturday Dec 24, 2016 #

11 AM

Road Bike 2:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Up and over Dyers to Governers then round the bays and up the Basdrat where we met Cris at some point along the summit road and then down to home via a cafe...of course. It's been over 3 1/2 years since I last was able to ride this loop on my own bike and I have to say it felt pretty awesome to be able to ride again with minimal pain. Unfortunately I think the new med is causing shortness of breath which is a bit frustrating.

Friday Dec 23, 2016 #

7 PM

Walk 56:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

So I meant to get up early and go for a walk or a run but I felt pretty awful in the morning so went back to sleep. Then we thought we might go for a ride after I got home from work but I still felt crap and also depressed by this point so a walk together round the neighbourhood and up the hill a bit turned out to be the best solution.

Thursday Dec 22, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

So tired but glad to be home.

Wednesday Dec 21, 2016 #

6 PM

Rogaine (Christmas Rogaine) 2:50:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Cruising with my workmates at the Christmas Rogaine. It was depressingly hard/painful work even though I planned a route to minimise potential ankle issues. Oh well, everyone seemed to have lots of fun so that is the main thing right?

Tuesday Dec 20, 2016 #

6 PM

Run 57:30 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Round the peninsula a bit from Chris's house trying not to get too lost but also trying to find interesting places. So hot and my ankle was already feeling swollen by the time I could finally head out so was going slower than snail pace but feeling so unfit. I should be kinder to myself here but it's really hard. I guess the ankle is improving but that also feels like it's going at snail pace. Running up hill is hard as I can't run on the ball of my left foot easily like I would normally do and running downhill is, well, more of a hobble thing. Oh well. The beaches were pretty and we had spent all afternoon paddleboarding which was awesome.

Monday Dec 19, 2016 #

7 AM

Walk 44:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Brisk walk around Musick Point and back before the others surfaced. Then spent most of the rest of the day walking round town as it turned out which was a bit much for my ankle.

Sunday Dec 18, 2016 #

12 PM

Run 1:20:28 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Super cruisey run with Richard round the peninsula and exploring all our old haunts. Good fun and lots of gossiping! I wish I could run with him more often.

Saturday Dec 17, 2016 #

3 PM

Walk 1:05:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Getting a breather from Christmas party prep with M...i.e. getting ourselves a bit lost in Browns Bay! Wished I could be running.

Friday Dec 16, 2016 #

6 AM

Road Bike 59:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Early morning blat in the cold up to the SOT and back. Good times and feeling happy. Made it all the way down in one go although slowed right down when the road levelled out so I could give my wrist a bit of a rest.

Wednesday Dec 14, 2016 #

7 AM

Walk 32:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Walking into work.
6 PM

Run 1:53:44 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Started off by jogging up the Captain Thomas and along the crater rim to the top of the anaconda although had to walk sections then was sort of okay jogging for most of the first section of mtb track on the way back but it all went bad early on in the next section where I had to hobble pretty much most of it then all the way down the hill. Silly Katie. Far too far and rough. Was too depressed and sore to try and find the others afterwards so went home to ice up and feel sorry for myself!

Tuesday Dec 13, 2016 #

7 AM

Walk 32:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Walking to work. Sore.
6 PM

Road Bike 1:55:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

With M from work up Mt Pleasant and along the tops. I think I might be getting the hang of my bike although I wished I could have been on the tandem for the descent. Ankle was okay despite being horrible during the day.

Monday Dec 12, 2016 #

6 PM

Run 1:12:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Cruisey jog with some girls from work at Taylor's Mistake. I think they had fun although were cursing me at times.

Sunday Dec 11, 2016 #

10 AM

Road Bike 1:35:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

On the tandem with M out to his Christmas party. The southerly headwind for the first 20km was rather demoralising.
4 PM

Road Bike 1:24:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Home again a more direct route with a couple of bonus hills. Feeling a bit over it by the end.

Saturday Dec 10, 2016 #

9 AM

Road Bike 1:53:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Nice little ride with M and Georgia up Dyers/Kidson/Vic Park and along the tops into the exciting weather before heading down Evans to get delicious treats in Sumner. I am loving my bike. I am not loving all the wild wind of late.
5 PM

Walk 36:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Quick little powerwalk partway up Huntsbury-ish to get some air after spending so long in the kitchen.

Friday Dec 9, 2016 #

Strength and Conditioning 30:00 [3]
(injured)

Wimped out of mtbing as it was super windy, a bit cold and I was tired and stressed. Made cheezecake instead.

Thursday Dec 8, 2016 #

6 AM

Run 45:25 [2]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Up the Harry Ell and Thompsons then down via Latters Spru. Going up was okay jogging along gently but doing downhill was pretty crappy.

Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 #

6 PM

Walk 1:35:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Taking Nicole for a walk up in the hills. There was a little bit of jogging but all pretty easy. It's always fun showing people new places.

Tuesday Dec 6, 2016 #

6 PM

Road Bike 1:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

From up up to the saddle just over the hill from the bellbird to cheer on M in the hillclimb then back again. Such a nice night for riding. Wanted to go much further but needed to be a good cheer squad member!

Monday Dec 5, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Well there was a rather exhausting headwind biking home from the theatre...

Sunday Dec 4, 2016 #

10 AM

Walk 2:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Up Albert tce until the long grass got too much so had to resort to bashing up through the tussock then up Mt Vernon and down Huntsbury. In hindsight I can see why my ankle doesn't feel so good now!

Saturday Dec 3, 2016 #

10 AM

Road Bike 2:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

With M up Dryers and along the tops to Godley Head. Down Evans and home. Longest ride in a little while and definitely the longest on my new bike. Felt good but it was super tough work for a little Katie especially chasing M around!

Friday Dec 2, 2016 #

5 PM

MTB 1:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

After work fun round the Montgomerey wiggle track with M. Feeling tired but perked up on the wiggle.
