6 PM

Run 31:58 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush (#3)

Up the Marette Taylor to the sign and back down the valley. I got a course record (female obviously since Nick Hann has pretty much all the men's ones) today without even trying! Obviously no one really runs up the Marettle Taylor on Strava. Feeling okay although a little under the weather as per the entire week but just trying to shake the legs out in prep for Saturday really.

Wednesday Mar 30, 2016 #

6 PM

Road Bike 38:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruising the mean streets of Chch with M. Legs still feeling a little tired but hopefully they are all good for Saturday.

Note
(rest day)

Sleepy. Baked a delicious banana cake (at least I assume it will be delicious when I finally get to eat it!) and picked up Molly Cat <3

Monday Mar 28, 2016 #

9 AM

Run 5:19:25 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush (#3)

Beautiful day for a run/grovel/walk up Pinchgut Track then along Robert Ridge to Lake Angelus before heading down Speargrass Creek. It was pretty much paradise. I wished so badly that I could beam M up the mountain and that we could stay by the lake for, like, ever.

Orienteering race (NZ Long Distance Champs) 2:26:46 [3]
shoes: Icebug Aceleritas 4

I was very concerned that I didn't quite get my money's worth yesterday so did my best today. I really cannot orienteer. Or, more precisely, I am scared of being alone, getting lost and having a panic attack in the big, slippery bush. Went very Very VERY (very very very...) slowly and it was sort of okay but I was lonely and super unconfident and so over it after hauling myself through bushes. My wrist and hand were also super super over it. I am super super over my hand. Can I have a new one like Luke Skywalker?
3 PM

Road Bike 1:52:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

A bit of a ride down Struggle Street and Misery Road on the tandem with M. Actually it was pretty nice but I was tired and M was feeling a bit injured. The sunshine was lovely.

Saturday Mar 26, 2016 #

12 PM

Orienteering race (NZ Middle Distance Champs) 56:31 [3]
shoes: Icebug Aceleritas 4

You know, gotta get your money's worth right? Yep, #1 was a disaster but now I see M's map I see there is a tag to tell me which way round the contour was that was hidden by the line to the control. Now that could really have helped. Anyway, it was okay after that. Sort of! In my slow, plodding way. Very pretty.

Friday Mar 25, 2016 #

1 PM

Run 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Salewa Wildfire

Bit of a wander up onto the Lewis Tops. So beautiful. I wish that we were tramping this weekend.

The rainbow is currently closed. Grump grump grump :-(

Wednesday Mar 23, 2016 #

Wednesday night run with the boys, complete with lazy stops for gossiping! Those boys...

Tuesday Mar 22, 2016 #

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 34:21 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruising to the TT with M. My legs are tiiiiiiiired.

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TT) 25:09 [4] 16.0 km (1:34 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Holy moly!! Best time of the season!! And maybe the best time on this bike! Crazy! Felt awfully fast but there wasn't too much wind and it wasn't super cold. Maybe we could have come under 25 minutes if the start had been better (Murray attempted to start us by holding my handlebars instead of the back of the bike and we nearly toppled over and into the cones when he pushed us off!!) and I didn't have such tired legs. OR perhaps the secret to getting good times is doing too much on the weekend before?

Road Bike warm up/down 31:10 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again! Got the shakes about 15 minutes from home...

Monday Mar 21, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling a bit sleepy and a bit achey today. Ate lots of vegan rocky road...yum yum!

Sunday Mar 20, 2016 #

9 AM

Run (City 2 Surf) 1:31:37 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Inspire 10

Crusing City 2 Surf with my boss who totally smashed it and I am super proud of her! Was actually really good for my legs to get them moving at a gentle pace on something flat. But the heat was pretty extreme.
1 PM

Run 1:27:53 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Inspire 10

And then once the heat really ramped up it was time to run home!! From the work BBQ up the Bridle Path (didn't feel like running this at all but there was a guy doing his second interval up it on a mtb so we chatted and somehow I think it motivated both of us to keep moving!) then along the tops where there was definitely some walking involved before cruising down the valley to home. My road running shoes made running on narrow tracks not particularly fun but I didn't have any speed so it didn't matter too much. I am now super sleepy and my thighs are tired!

Saturday Mar 19, 2016 #

7 AM

Road Bike warm up/down 14:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruising the mean streets of Chch to the startline.
8 AM

Road Bike race (Le Race) 3:55:11 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Woozahs! The wind, holy moly! The tops after hilltop had some pretty scary times. Pretty glad to be on a big heavy tandem but even then we were being pushed across the road. Feeling pretty happy with our ride though after both of us being sick, having all the cat drama and such terrifying wind. Didn't really get passed along the tops after hilltop and we were slowly gaining on the people around us. A bit (okay, more than a bit) grumpy with the people in our bunch along the flats. Hardly anyone in a group of 20 or so were prepared to do any work. ARGH!! Don't they realise we could have gone so much faster if we'd all worked together? Right, rant over now!

Oh yeah, I have a QOM on strava now!! For the final sprint into the finish of Le Race! Classic! M is in 4th place overall with that sprint too so we must have been flying! He was determined that none of the guys behind us were going to pass us going into the finish!

Friday Mar 18, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

Tired. So tired. What a good start.

Thursday Mar 17, 2016 #

Note
(rest day)

I did ride out to look at proofs and have to ride back home into a headwind...

Wednesday Mar 16, 2016 #

6 PM

Rogaine (Wicked Rogaine: Mt Vernon) 2:01:00 [3]
shoes: Icebug Aceleritas 4

Fun times in the Port Hills with Lara! Actually, it was quite a fun course. We just cruised as we were both feeling a bit tired and we both could probably really do with a rest. Somehow I managed to sprain my little finger but I have no memory of doing it. I just remember running down towards the finish thinking my finger hurt a hell of a lot!

Tuesday Mar 15, 2016 #

6 PM

Run 20:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Inspire 10

Jogging round the neighbourhood in the cold bringing in our distintgrated signs. Yay for Molly Cat being home!

Road Bike (windtrainer) 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Pretty wet and miserable outside so no time trial again. Instead it was fun times pedalling away inside whilst watching cycling.

Monday Mar 14, 2016 #

6 AM

Run 30:01 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Inspire 10

Crappy slow morning run along the river and back. Feeling kinda awful and tense. Then went cat hunting afterwards. Only saw 2 cats. They weren't mine.

Sunday Mar 13, 2016 #

10 AM

Road Bike 2:02:20 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem out to Sumner via the valley then up Evans Pass, along the tops and down Dyers to home. Warmer than I expected. Feeling okay I guess. Trying my best to function like a normal human being. It's hard.

Looking forward to and dreading Le Race at the same time. I think we're as ready as we can in the circumstances so if you're around and bored next Saturday morning please come and cheer us on.

Saturday Mar 12, 2016 #

4 PM

Run 1:19:13 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush (#3)

Struggling up the valley then on to Rapaki where some older guy stopped me to tell me that I was running fast and looked like an athlete (hahaha!!!) and spent ages trying to convince me to enter running races. I was too polite to tell him I was getting cold and was keen to get going again. Oh well. Then onwards and round Witch Hill and along the tops a bit that way before heading back and up and over Mt Vernon then round the mtb track and down Farm Track. Feeling absolutely crap. Super gunky and a bit nauseous then my back started hurting on the way down the hill. My ankle doesn't seem so bad today. Perhaps having a couple of days off it a bit helped.

Friday Mar 11, 2016 #

Note

Walking round in the super cold and windy morning putting up posters. So tired. Then worked late, got home, cried and ate chocolate. This week sucks.

Thursday Mar 10, 2016 #

Note

Molly has gone missing. We have walked up and down and up and down and up and down and I am extremely tired. I want my cat back.

Wednesday Mar 9, 2016 #

5 PM

MTB 35:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

Headwind hell from work out to the rogaine. I came so close to giving up on the causeway.
6 PM

Rogaine race (Barnett Park rogaine) 1:41:45 [3]
shoes: Icebug Aceleritas 4

Fun times gossiping with Lara. Not the most exciting course but still pretty fun. It was pretty clear from early on that we'd be able to get them all which was a bit sad but I was feel pretty good and strong considering how bad I'd felt on Saturday.
9 PM

MTB 22:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

Lovely cruise home again with a very pleasant tailwind!

Tuesday Mar 8, 2016 #

5 PM

Road Bike 1:36:45 [3] 42.0 km (2:18 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Unsurprisingly the TT was cancelled but we never checked so ride out there anyway and got drenched. Then just cruised the course with one of the other regulars (okay, so it wasn't actually a cruise at all) before making the cold trip home. I was completely frozen and miserable by the time we got home! Felt quite good riding. Seem to be feeling reasonably recovered...

Monday Mar 7, 2016 #

7 PM

Strength and Conditioning 35:00 [3]

So many interruptions it's amazing I actually got through!

Sunday Mar 6, 2016 #

9 AM

Road Bike 3:32:31 [3] 72.83 km (2:55 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little ride to get a vegan thickshake at the Shroom Room (and maybe, just maybe, there was a little Le Race training in there). Feeling pretty damn good on the tandem today! Clearly I am destroyed for running at the moment but not for cycling. Kinda weird! Super super hot. We also detoured on the way home to get our bike checked off and have been given the all clear so yay (or is it more like, now it's time to freak out a little? Le Race is one hell of a scary race for little Katies)!

And just for fun, here's the entertaining elevation variations:
Garmin: 1,505m
K's Strava: 1,855m
M's Strava: 2,341m

Saturday Mar 5, 2016 #

10 AM

Run 1:08:38 [3]
shoes: Merrell All Out Charge

Good lord it was hot and I was so shattered. Rode over to Bowenvale and dragged myself up the old downhill track then thought I could go up the zig zag but I was far too tired so kept looping round the valley with a bit of a walking detour up some of the 4WD tracks in the forest where it was shaded. Then went for another detour back up onto the downhill track. So much walking. Such slow grovelling when I was running. Came home and could have just fallen asleep on the floor if I hadn't felt so sweaty!

Friday Mar 4, 2016 #

6 PM

MTB 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

Battle of the GPS devices! Cruising up Rapaki, along the tops then down Dyers with M on the tandem so we were going at the same speed on exactly the same ride...but apparently we did quite a different amount of elevation (hehehe!):
- my garmin reckons we climbed 436 metres
- the same GPS track imported into Strava reckons we climbed 534 metres
- M's phone on strava reckons we climbed 654 metres
Classic. Of course, this means M is going to reach the climbing goal on Strava way faster than me which just isn't fair!

Thursday Mar 3, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Didn't feel up to the planned ride with M so walked to the supermarket instead. I'm really struggling with pain today. It's all too overwhelming.

On a more positive note my cool purple watch arrived today and I got it all set up despite its useless instruction manual.

Wednesday Mar 2, 2016 #

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Merrell All Out Charge

Went for a walk along the river then up Rapaki a bit before heading down into the valley and home again. Started off struggling to walk but seemed to get into a rhythm (seem to have to walk more on the balls of my feet so my heels don't rub...sigh) but then it got hard again heading down hill and then my feet were just hot and fed up with me. Fair enough. Also, it's torture time and I'm feeling decidely nauseous. Fun.

But then I came home and watched Blandings with M whilst eating vegan mint chocolate biscuits before cuddling the cat so things definitely improved.

Tuesday Mar 1, 2016 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

And now my back is sore too...probably from lying around all yesterday getting squashed by the cat!
