1 PM

Road Bike 2:40:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

The tandem's first foray onto gravel which it handled with ease. Out towards Maruia Saddle and back. Nice "warmup" ride - not that I really warmed up.

Friday May 30, 2014 #

5 PM

Walk 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Thursday May 29, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Tired and all round not feeling okay. Instead I watched the cold cold Giro and fixed up (mostly) the PAPO website.

Wednesday May 28, 2014 #

Note

Georgia...looks like we're all going to have matching rogaine packs (well, not quite matching as we've bought different colours - they didn't have any nice girly colours in stock)! You're a good sales person!
6 PM

Road Bike 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Tandeming from home up Mt Pleasant (via Em's to drop off the pannier bags) and down to Evans Pass then back up and down to Em's. Saw the lights of the Wed night runners bashing up the hill above Barnett Park. Feeling very achey tired to start with but got into a good rhythm once we started climbing. The slight adjustment M made to the cleat position on my right shoe seems to have mostly fixed the biking foot pressure issue as far as I can tell at this stage.
10 PM

Road Bike 15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home from Em's after too much food!

Gym - Cardio 50:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Cross trainer at the gym. 20 minutes to start with then went off and did some other stuff 'cause I was feeling worried it was putting pressure on my foot then 30 minutes to finish with 15 of them being intervals since the foot was feeling fine.

Rowing Machine 10:00 [3]

Lame rowing on an easy drag setting and no bending of the arms which makes you feel really unco. Had to hold the bar bit in a funny way with my right hand and after not very long my wrist got pretty uncomfortable but not exactly painful so I'll have to try it again.

Gym (weights) 15:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Mostly leg weights apart from the 1 arm weights thing M found that didn't require weight through my hands.

7 PM

Road Bike (windtrainer) 35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Whilst watching the Giro. Got a bit carried away/excited and was in a pretty high "climbing" gear.

10 AM

Road Bike 2:40:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Tandeming with M round to Tai Tapu, over Gebbies and then up and over Dyers to home. We were going to head out to Lyttleton on the way home but feeling tired and hungry and the wind seemed to be picking up even more. Probably a good idea. I am definitely still recovering from last weekend.
Was originally going to go to the orienteering but was a bit worried about pushing my foot and M was like, 'time to go cycling' when I got home from the market so he helpfully made the decision for me! Probably a good idea. No running, just walking and cycling next week I think.

Saturday May 24, 2014 #

2 PM

Road Bike 2:20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem up Dyers and long the tops then down Gebbies, along to Governers via a detour along the walking track by the coast then and up and over Dyers. Pretty windy on the way down to home...enough that the bike felt like it was being tossed around a bit which was a little unnerving.

Friday May 23, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling like I should be doing something and feeling horribly bad that I'm not but I am really tired and not feeling very good.

Thursday May 22, 2014 #

6 PM

Road Bike 45:00 [2]
shoes: SH-WM43

Nice cruisey ride along the flat (mostly), on the tandem with M. Testing the new shoes which seem good but I guess the real test is what they're like for walking in so who knows what they're really like yet.

Wednesday May 21, 2014 #

6 PM

MTB 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki behind the Wed night running people into a horrible headwind then down Huntsbury to home. Felt okay I guess.

Tuesday May 20, 2014 #

7 PM

Walk 36:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

To the bike shop to get M's bike while he cruised along on my bike (then we rode home again...obviously).

Monday May 19, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

My feet and ankles are swollen :-(

Rogaine race (TWALK - leg 4) 5:43:08 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (purple)

Facing my fears in this leg that's for sure: rivers and going down really steep rocky stuff...all in the dark. I kind of fell miles behind everyone on the downhill. But despite that this was definitely my favourite leg. For a start it had a nice big climb/scramble and it definitely had the right balance of crypticness and control searching required!
7 AM

Rogaine (TWALK - leg 5) 5:09:36 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (purple)

Some of the controls seemed much more hidden on this leg which wasn't so good since Georgia and I were pretty tired. The climb felt awful. I was dragging myself up that. Because we were so pushed for time there wasn't enough time to do big searches for the controls which made it a bit depressing when we would have to give up again. Pretty glad to get to the finish.

12 PM

Rogaine race (TWALK - leg 1) 2:18:15 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

Pretty short, hot and scratchy! I was feeling pretty tired and crappy right from the start (not helped by it being the beginning of that time of the month) and my feet were feeling unhappy too which seemed an ominous start. But we did manage to outnavigate the boys on one control so we were all in pretty high spirits!
3 PM

Rogaine race (TWALK - leg 2) 4:54:56 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

After a freezing river crossing it was a nice bash up the hill through large amounts of spaniard which made the matagouri earlier seem positively friendly. Once coming down off the hillside we ended up in an awful marsh which I struggled terribly in and it just seemed to go on and on but at least I didn't fall in as deep as Lara. Then as I was jogging along not long after the marsh my knee suddenly kinda gave way under me and it started to get incredibly sore so now I could add knee pain to my list of pains for the day!
8 PM

Rogaine (TWALK - leg 3) 3:40:06 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (purple)

Reasonably flat and fairly easy apart from a couple of controls and I even felt quite good on this leg so it was rather enjoyable. My definite low point in these 24 things is definitely pretty early on then!

Friday May 16, 2014 #

Too busy sewing my costume!

(rest day)

I think I might go home and sleep today. Gotta catch up on all this lost sleep this week so I can survive the weekend.

Sunday May 11, 2014 #

8 AM

Road Bike 3:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem out to the orienteering. Hit the wall bad just after Sheffield (not helped by the fact I hadn't had enough breakfast and had already eaten through most of the food in my lunchbox thingy to try and catch up). The worst bit of the ride though was definitely from the orienteering sign saying 500m to the event turnoff. That has to be by far the longest 500 metres in the entire world (i.e. over 1km, probably closer to 1.5km). Fine for those of you in cars but when the hammer has fallen and you have crashed that is just not fair. I nearly gave up!
12 PM

Orienteering race (OY Butlers Bush) 1:15:45 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

I just did the medium red since we did have to make it home in daylight and I was a bit, ummm, tired. I was definitely running on empty. No mistakes and would have mostly been the kind of course I could have run round quite happily but instead I was dragging. I need more sleep for a start I think.
2 PM

Road Bike 2:40:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Pretty much just finished the course, had a sandwich, a quick chat with a couple of people and then it felt like we were off again. Felt much better on the way home, probably because it's a bit more favourable going this direction. Nice stop in Sheffield so M could get a pie and I could drink lots of ginger beer.
I need to do WAY more of this if I'm going to survive riding 400km in one day. Feeling a bit depressed about how I'm doing all round.

Saturday May 10, 2014 #

11 AM

Road Bike 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem from Hilltop to Akaroa for large amounts of hot chips via the Summit Rd. Cruising along with the group apart from our breakaway to whiz down Long Bays Road. Holy moly that was a fast descent...and M was probably even holding back quite a bit!
2 PM

Road Bike 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

From Akaroa to Hilltop via the bays. Cruisey so we didn't leave anyone behind which was good because my stomach was far to full of hot chips!

Friday May 9, 2014 #

6 PM

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Up Huntsbury. Got waylaid setting out helping a lady find her runaway dog then on the way home playing with a cat and chatting to Lara. So all in all, a good walk!

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]

Wednesday May 7, 2014 #

Road Bike (windtrainer) 32:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Just taking care of my foot so was good and didn't go to Wednesday night run. Instead it was windtrainer time (after the supermarket). Just took it fairly easy. Was going to do strength stuff afterwards but got sidetracked by code.

Tuesday May 6, 2014 #

7 PM

Road Bike 1:38:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little night ride on the tandem up Mt Pleasant, down to Evans Pass and then back again. Nice even pace although I felt a bit hungry and weak near the top. M is getting quite good at the gear changing now.

Monday May 5, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Bit tired plus I had book group and all that.

Sunday May 4, 2014 #

10 AM

Road Bike 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Tandeming from home over to Charteris Bay via Governers Bay. Loving it!
12 PM

Run 3:27:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

With Lara up Mt Bradley and round to the packhorse then round the back of Mt Bradley and down again. Foot was playing up on the way down so we walked a bit. Feeling rather tired!
5 PM

Road Bike 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again on the tandem via Gebbies and the Basdrat. Feeling a bit tired but still managing to keep the pedals turning. I love this bike! Just gotta remember to breathe when we go downhill now we're going so much faster. Just because I trust M and I trust our huge brakes doesn't mean it isn't quite terrifying.

Saturday May 3, 2014 #

10 AM

Road Bike 10:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To the bike shop on the old tandem.
12 PM

Road Bike 10:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again on the new tandem!!!!!!!!! I can't even begin to describe how amazing this bike is!
1 PM

Road Bike 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem from home up Mt Pleasant the cool way (stopped to chat with Al and Amber for a while who were on their way down) then down Evans Pass and home again with a hot drinks stop along the way. I didn't want the ride to end!
4 PM

Road Bike 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem out to Rangiora via some back roads.
9 PM

Road Bike 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem home again from Rangiora in the dark and thick mist via some different backroads.

Thursday May 1, 2014 #

6 PM

Run 46:27 [3]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Quick run around the river and up and down a bit. Wasn't really time to go anywhere too cool and besides, everything is wet, muddy, full of slips and fallen trees and, well, closed! Felt quite good running though.
