11 AM

Road Bike 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To Clare's where we then biked into the wind to Tai Tapu (where sadly we didn't get to stop for hot chocolates which surely defeats the purpose of going to Tai Tapu?) then back again and I got a lovely big (and loud) puncture. There goes my beautiful yellow tyre :-(
6 PM

Run 1:34:41 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Ran from Emily's over to meet everyone for the Wednesday night run: Halloween edition. Up valley track then to the top of Witch Hill for some lazing in the sunshine then down in a howling wind and thick mist! Then down Rapaki and the valley again. Really regretted not taking the pain killers this afternoon when we were descending as the pain was getting pretty bad :-(

12 PM

MTB 1:38:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki, along the traverse, down Flying Nun then Vic Park into Bowenvale and home. Beautiful day (probably got burnt though as Michael seems to have hidden the sunscreen...surely wouldn't be me right?!) and reminded me just how much I have fallen in love with mountain biking. Legs a bit tired after yesterday though but arms starting to feel a lot more relaxed on the big descents. Got to help some 'silly fool' (his words, not mine) who hadn't tightened his handlebars properly when he'd put his bike back together as neither him nor his friend had an allen key on them. The impact of riding down the nun had basically flipped them upside down. Quite amusing.
5 PM

MTB 55:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice cruisey ride with Hilary around Bottle Lake.

Monday Oct 29, 2012 #

3 PM

Road Bike 43:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Up Hackthorne and Dyers to SOK and back down Dyers to home. Felt really good riding despite my horrid stabby stomach pain. Glad I went riding instead of going on the run I planned since I don't think I could have done that today. The fancy new pain killers are not quite strong enough but at least I can function I guess.
6 PM

Run 24:05 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Nice little jog with Michael after he'd gotten home from work (he ran home so he was looking very tired and hot). My stomach wasn't very comfortable so I was glad to get home again.

Sunday Oct 28, 2012 #

Note

Wandering round Ashburton Domain with Michael for hours being the worst mappers in the world.

Saturday Oct 27, 2012 #

2 PM

MTB 2:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael once he'd finished playing with the weed-eater. Over to the crocodile and Kennedy's then down the Flying Nun where I practised a few things (oh yeah, ticked off another 2 tricky sections and now only have 2 to go!) then down Vic Park into Bowenvale and home. Feeling a bit down about my riding today.

Friday Oct 26, 2012 #

5 PM

Run 1:30:58 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Up through Vic Park and Latters Spur, over the tops to Mt Vernon then down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill to home. Feeling very blah and all the crap in my nose and throat is driving me crazy but at least I could get all the way to the top before I had to blow it!

Thursday Oct 25, 2012 #

6 PM

MTB 1:35:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki, around the traverse (stopping to check out some rocks) and down Vic Park (checking out some corners that I was being wimpy on) into Bowenvale and home. Felt cold and couldn't stop coughing.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2012 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Antibiotics and other fun stuff...oh yeah.

Tuesday Oct 23, 2012 #

10 AM

MTB 2:00:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Cool ride in Naseby with Michael. Still feeling crap so wasn't riding that well and then I was totally destroyed after the last climb and couldn't stop coughing for ages but it was fun other than that! Was very muddy and slippery after the snow which was quite a contrast to the previous ride and at one point it was like riding down a stream rather than a track.

11 AM

Orienteering race (SI Champs - Long) 2:18:50 [3] 5.9 km (23:32 / km)
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Yep, the foggy brain is still here and felt so awful. Was so happy to see Michael looking out for me but I was too fast for him to catch me up until near the end.

Sunday Oct 21, 2012 #

Orienteering race (SI Champs - Middle) 1:13:27 [3]
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Blargh, my brain was so foggy and any time my heart rate was slightly raised I felt like keeling over.
3 PM

MTB 1:15:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice little ride in the forest with Michael, Emily and her parents. Wished I'd felt better.

Saturday Oct 20, 2012 #

2 PM

Orienteering race (SI Champs - Sprint) 37:26 [3]
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

A few terrible controls but mostly just so terribly slow. So much walking, even along nice little tracks, because running just made me feel ill today.

Friday Oct 19, 2012 #

5 PM

MTB 30:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Felt sick and cold so we didn't make it that far before turning back. Did find some fun single track though.

Thursday Oct 18, 2012 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Poor Michael is still sick. At least I'm starting to feel a lot better even if the cough refuses to sound better. And today I even did some gardening!

Wednesday Oct 17, 2012 #

6 PM

Run 1:55:22 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

From Emily's place with Emily and Ash. Met Amber and Al at the bottom of Rapaki and headed up valley track. Round Mt Vernon mtb then the bush tracks. Back along the traverse and down Huntsbury where we met up with Chris. Down into the valley onto the Albert Tce track and through the rocks as it started to get dark. Then a nice fast pace back to the house where my drink bottle was waiting for me. So thirsty! Felt much better running today (the nap this afternoon probably helped) but my nose was being annoying.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012 #

5 PM

MTB 1:40:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice ride up Rapaki, along traverse and down Vic Park to Bowenvale with Hilary. Feeling crappy but so happy to be outside. It doesn't seem too much of a problem biking if I don't go too fast. But yeah, thanks Michael for giving me your sickness just as I'd recovered from mine :-P

Monday Oct 15, 2012 #

6 PM

Run 34:46 [2]
(sick) shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

With Michael through the forest at Kairaki to take some pictures and along the beach. I felt awful and was just focusing on following his feet and not falling over!

Sunday Oct 14, 2012 #

3 PM

Run 53:39 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Because we both felt a bit crap we drove to the end of Bowenvale and ran round in the valley from there. Lots of water and mud everywhere. Then I ran home while Michael drove. Blahhh...so much crap in my throat. So frustrating when your legs feel really good.

Strength and Conditioning 1:00:00 [3]

Saturday Oct 13, 2012 #

4 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At the Roxx with Michael since the weather was far too awful to do anything outside today. Forearms killing me afterwards.

Friday Oct 12, 2012 #

7 PM

MTB 1:10:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice cruisey ride up Rapaki and down Huntsbury and Major Aiken with Michael and Stephanie. Not feeling too flash so this (the ride, not the feeling crap bit) was good. My throat is sore...perhaps Michael and I are trading illnesses since his nose seems to have started running now.

Thursday Oct 11, 2012 #

3 PM

MTB 1:50:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki, along Mt Vernon and traverse then along the road and down Flying Nun and Vic Park into Bowenvale and home. Legs felt tired on the hills today and was a bit shaky on some of the rocks. SO hot. Had to stop myself drinking all my water in one go!

Wednesday Oct 10, 2012 #

6 PM

Run 1:19:05 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

With Emily from her place up the track from Albert Tce through the rocks then onto Farm Track. Around the mtb track and down Valley track. Feeling pretty good.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2012 #

6 PM

MTB 1:05:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Hilary was still feeling sore today so went riding with Michael instead. Jus up Rapaki and down Huntsbury and Major Aiken in the misty cold. Took it nice and slow 'cause I don't want to be sick any more. Feeling pretty good but Michael's cough sounds awful. There was a lovely headwind up the second part of the climb.

Monday Oct 8, 2012 #

4 PM

Run 36:19 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Along the river and back again in the drizzle. Felt pretty sluggish and slow but made pretty good time. Kept to the flat which was unusal for me so I must have really not been feeling very good considering how much I hate the flat!

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

11 AM

MTB 15:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Cruising down the cool singletrack off the side of the Mt Hutt ski road before the race.
2 PM

MTB race (Peak to Pub - mtb) 32:06 [3]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

After a very shaky start for our team (before the race even started!) I wasn't really sure feeling like riding at all but Craig stepped up to take Rhea's place in the ski and he seemed quite excited about it.

Down the Mt Hutt ski road to the crossroads. It's quite bumpy and felt like it was going on forever! Wasn't going to take the single track option since I'd already ridden it in the morning and knew it was definitely not faster! There was more flat (into a lovely headwind at the end) and uphill than I would have liked considering I was feeling like crap any time I tried to exert myself at all so I wasn't very fast but it was quite fun. Got quite a surprise to see Georgia standing on the side of the road at one point!
3 PM

MTB 30:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Riding back to Methven via the diversion race to cheer on Stephanie and see her swim across the channel.

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

I've come to the conclusion that although we are both still sick, I'm not sure we have the same thing. Race is postponed until tomorrow which is probably good. I hope it isn't too cold. So instead I am at home battling Illustrator...and I might finally be winning (sort of).

Friday Oct 5, 2012 #

Note
(sick)

Michael and I are both sick in bed :-(
Hopefully I can at least walk round the block later today. And at least tomorrow's race doesn't really require me to pedal very much!

Thursday Oct 4, 2012 #

3 PM

Run 1:28:25 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

From home up Bowenvale then down Old Dyers and home via the bush behind the dog park. Was feeling a bit blah but fairly good considering until partway down old dyers when I suddenly felt awful. It was a long limp home from there!

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

6 PM

MTB 1:30:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

To Rapaki where we met up with the Wednesday night run crew and cruised up with them then we did some more cruising along the traverse and then down through Vic Park (with some stops for a bit of practicing). Decided not to risk the nun tonight incase darkness descended on us. Next time. Anyway, glad Michael convinced me riding was a good idea as I wasn't really feeling like running tonight.

Tuesday Oct 2, 2012 #

6 PM

Road Bike 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little recovery cruise along the Summit Road with Michael. It was a lot colder than I was prepared for though. Felt alright once I'd warmed up (better than I did on my walk earlier today).

Monday Oct 1, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Too busy and my bum muscles are a bit tight! But we did go for a walk in the evening.
