Rowing Machine warm up/down 5:00 [2]

Rowing Machine 18:31 [4] 4.0 km (4:38 / km)

Michael was keen on doing 5000 metres so 4000 seemed like a good distance for me to do at the same time. Finished about a minute before he did. Wasn't as bad as I anticipated, but then again, you do have to pace yourself a whole lot more than the 2000m. Thought my arms were going to come off near the end though! 5000 next time maybe? :-P

Gym - Cardio (cross trainer) 5:00 [3]

Still trying to recover from the rowing!

Gym (weights) 30:00 [3]

Hard.

Run 30:40 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Along the river towards Viv's this time then turned around at the bridge and back via a small hill. Threw in a few intervals (4 short and 1 longer). I always feel a bit dizzy and blind running without contacts.

Strength and Conditioning 20:00 [3]

MTB 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki, along the tops then down all the way through Vic Park to Bowenvale then we pushed the bikes up a bit again and rode down some more (well, I sucked on the track bit). Fun :)
We were both so exhausted last night though and had trouble getting up this morning. Still feeling a bit blah. Just not sleeping all that well here so I can't wait to go home.

Run 2:16:10 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

The Mt Richardson loop with Michael. Ran pretty much the whole way to the top apart from where there were larger steps and where the snow was thicker. SO hard! There was an amazing view from the top though. Downhill was tough too especially 'cause I discovered a banana doesn't seem to help me. I need something like a muesli bar so I hit the wall a bit.

Road Bike 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

From Michael's work up to SOK via Dyers Pass (well, I got lost and confused getting back so it was a bit of a tiki tour) then along the Summit Rd to the fountain and back again. I think this is called the Snail Ride but I didn't see any of these mythical snails at the fountain even though I looked. Didn't ride very hard (when it was possible but to SOT, well, you can't ride it anything but hard otherwise I'd fall off) but felt pretty blah in the legs. There are a lot more hills along Summit Rd than I remember...perhaps I'm just getting weak.

Walk 27:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

To SOT from Jenni and Carsten's. Took a bit longer than I thought.

Run 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Wednesday night run. Bad headspace = bad night. But I am beginning to get the distinct impression I'm too slow for these runs. Probably better to do my own thing or something.
Oh, and if you want to know why Michael isn't coming to the runs can you please ask him yourself? It's turning into the old, "How is your brother doing?" thing and I'm over it.

Tuesday Jul 24, 2012 #

12 PM

Run 37:11 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Along the river and back with some intervals thrown in for good measure.

MTB 2:10:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Over to Halswell and up the Crocodile (horrible mudbath going down to the bridge and I wimped out and walked) then up Kennedy's, along the road then traverse track and part of Mt Vernon and down Farm Track. Not a good day. All slippery and blah. Not fun. Was good practice just riding uphill slowly in my granny gear and not getting tired. But once on the traverse track it was good and I had fun (mostly) down Farm Track. It's much more rutted than I thought.

MTB race (MTBO - Bottle Lake) 1:21:27 [4] 19.4 km (4:12 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Not a very good race for me! Didn't even manage to get the first control very well then proceeded to make mistakes and the very mysterious #5 (considered going back to have a look at that after I'd finished but felt a bit too cold and tired) and a massive, very stupid mistake at #15 (what on EARTH was I thinking?!). But it was fun (when I'm not beating myself up for the stupid mistakes - I think I went out a bit too gungho). Pretty cool course, probably one of the most difficult I've done in a while navigation-wise.

Run 50:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Nice little run with Michael up Bowenvale Valley a little bit the sidling round the west side of the valley (ironically on the Eastside Bush track) onto the mtb tracks where we explored those a little bit. I want to ride my mtb!!

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice little ride round the usual route although I could definitely feel my legs were tired. Anyway, I had to put the bike together first and the back wheel was making a horrible noise when I wasn't pedaling or braking (so I didn't notice to start with). I decided proceeding wasn't a good idea so rode back to see if trusty mechanic Chris was home and he fixed it all up for me.

Note
(rest day)

Didn't even go outside for a walk. How lame is that!

Wednesday Jul 18, 2012 #

6 AM

Run 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Wednesday night run up Hidden Valley track and Zig Zag then along mtb tracks and up Sugar Loaf. Straight off the side which was fun down to SOK then down Old Dyers where Matt and Lara caught us up and then over and down through Vic Park. Legs felt surprisingly good and the fresh air woke me up a bit.

MTB 5:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Big day exploring as much of the forest as we could without collapsing with exhaustion (okay, that happened anyway at the top of one of the hills!). Even got to experience single-track perfection (Split Enz according to the Kennett Brothers!). Riding pretty well.
Route was straight over to A Trail (well, we got a bit confused finding the start of it) then round to the big climb up Direct Rd. Another climb up Frontal Lobotomy, down Billy T, nice lunch stop then round to Split Enz and Pondy Downhill/Pondy New (felt like I totally lost control of my bike and nearly went flying on the downhill near the end of the open section which was scary), Roller Coaster, Chop Suey (this sucked!). Then we hauled ourselves up Hill Rd to fly down Corners then Spring Roll, Sweet n Sour, Be Rude Not 2 (the open section was wicked) and Mad If You Don't. Then down the road to finish with Dipper and the Kids track.
Overall I think we may have covered about half of the tracks in the last few days...? We needed another day!

Monday Jul 16, 2012 #

MTB 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Nice little afternoon ride in the rain checking out a few tracks (Tahi, Creek, Bunny Jugs, Sweet n Sour, Dragon's Tail, Dipper...sort of as we got a bit confused). Got the most wet riding from the holiday park down the road to the park. The forest seems to keep you out of the worst of the weather and it was surprisingly firm underneath the wheel. Looking forward to tomorrow's adventure.

MTB race (Vegas Vindaloo Rogaine) 1:51:45 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Pouring with rain to add to the excitement but fortunately we managed to score a lift out to the event so we weren't drenched before the start. Didn't plan all that well and got too many 30 pointers when I could have gone further out and got higher points. If it had been a 2:30 length rogaine I would have got to experience Split Enz. Oh well. Good fun though but I don't think I like short mtb rogaines nearly as much as regular mtbo. Most amused by the grumpy man I met a couple of times who was all 'end of the world' about the weather. Made me laugh.

MTB warm up/down 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

To and from events plus warm ups and warm downs.
11 AM

MTB race (Vegas Vindaloo Long) 1:13:45 [4] 15.0 km (4:55 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Didn't think I had time to do course 1 before course closure as I was one of the last starts so did the middle course. Pretty easy mostly but I took a while to get into a groove (felt jaded from the early morning and mad dash to put the bikes together once we got there). Felt sort of shaky and a bit yuck. The only real mistake was #9 where I saw one of the direction arrows and assumed that it was a loop so rode down to where I thought the entrance was to discover it was 2 tracks coming out in the same place. Took me forever to work out what was going on and where I could get in. Then had to bike back up the hill to the track entrance. Bummer! 7 minutes down on the winner which I can definitely see (most of it in my mistake at #9!).
3 PM

MTB race (Vegas Vindaloo Sprint) 19:20 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Course 1.
You could ride anywhere which was a bit of a strange experience. Was going pretty well at the start and caught up the 3 people who started ahead of me. Then I proceeded to overshoot control after control (i.e. ride right past them...even seeing them but thinking they weren't right!). Then to top it off I rode right past the finish and to the start area and was horribly confused! Oh well, good fun.

MTB race (Vegas Vindaloo) 6:15 [4]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Course 2.
Blasted round the short course for a bit of fun. Got stuck behind some kids and their Mum at one point and then briefly stopped to help out another kid. Might have got under 5 minutes without that!

Note
(rest day)

Back South again...feeling a bit gloomy about the lack of sunlight.

Thursday Jul 12, 2012 #

8 AM

Run 48:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

From the parents' along Eastern Beach, round Macleans Park then back via Bucklands Beach. Was going to do some intervals through the park but decided I should save my energy (which I didn't really have anyway!) for the weekend. A bit cloudy and humid this morning.

Wednesday Jul 11, 2012 #

6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

Climbing at Extreme Edge with Chris. Good, exhausting session.

Tuesday Jul 10, 2012 #

8 AM

Run 1:31:19 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

From the parents along Eastern Beach then up through the Macleans park via various muddy and not so muddy tracks (and round in a few circles just for fun...and for added fun, I got jumped on by a massive dog and now have a sore, bruised arm!) down to the marina via some other tracks that got me a bit lost then along the boardwalk and along Bucklands Beach. Up to the end of Musick Point and then back to the house for a delicious breakfast. So sunny! Felt a lot better on the second half of the run, probably once my hands warmed up!

Strength and Conditioning (Keep Fit Class) 1:45:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

After a lovely walk in the hot sunshine I tagged along with Mum to her keep fit class which is basically very low impact aerobics. The old ladies put me to shame with the flexibility routines. I admired the lady wearing the brightly patterned leotard and pastel sweat band. I hope I have that kind of confidence when I'm her age.

Sunday Jul 8, 2012 #

12 PM

MTB 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki, Mt Vernon (horrible and muddy for the first half...how was this actually still open?), the traverse track...then back along the traverse track the other way and down Huntsbury/Major Aiken to home. Not having a good riding day.

Saturday Jul 7, 2012 #

10 AM

Run 1:32:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Started with Michael up Bowenvale to the bottom of the zig zag track where he took my polypro, gloves and buff and ran back home again whilst I kept going in a t-shirt. Up to the top of Mt Vernon, my favourite bush tracks, top of Sugar Loaf and then down via Latters Spur and Vic Park and back down the valley to home. Beautiful day. Definitely not quite as fit as I was before being hit by multiple sicknesses and girl stuff but can still run up hills :)

Friday Jul 6, 2012 #

2 PM

Walk 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

My usual/favourite walk up to the dog park and back but from Jenni and Carsten's so it took a bit longer. Feeling a bit sluggish and tired still but definitely on the mend. Glad I wore shoes to cope with mud 'cause there was lots of that.
6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At The Roxx with Michael, Stephanie and Tim. Good gosh I am weak! I did sort of get into the flow of things by the end but then my forearms have been exhausted ever since.

Thursday Jul 5, 2012 #

12 PM

Run 40:46 [2] 7.0 km (5:49 / km)
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Oooo, a run! Nice gentle run along the bottom of the hills to Ramahana then up the hill nice and slowly (but fast enough to zoom past another runner) to Kenmure and down Major Aiken. Felt okay except for my chest and back which felt awful on the downhill. Lacking in much energy though.

Wednesday Jul 4, 2012 #

6 PM

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Nice little walk with Michael up Major Aiken Drive and back. Feeling quite a bit better...most of the time. Also managed to bike into town and back at lunchtime :)

Tuesday Jul 3, 2012 #

12 PM

Walk 55:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Up Major Aiken and down the stairs and back streets. Very misty and drizzly so got quite wet. Glad I didn't listen to Michael telling me it was clearing up and wore my awesome waterproof jacket. Feeling better than yesterday in terms of exercise but my tummy seems to have taken a step backwards.

Monday Jul 2, 2012 #

1 PM

Walk 45:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

From the house up to the top of Holliss Ave and back. Oh man, that was quite possibly the most exhausting walk ever. Nearly had to sit down partway up the hill. Actually did sit down at the top and try to calm my heart down again. Was exhausted by the time I got back again. Might have overdone it!

Sunday Jul 1, 2012 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Yeah, the relay at McLeans Island was really not going to happen. Getting out of bed was hard enough.
