Strength and Conditioning 15:00 [3]

Good old late night torture! Getting quite good at my planks though. Can now do the regular plank for at least 2:30 (I shouldn't have given up at that point 'cause I reckon I could have done 3 minutes now). Right wrist is sore though so my push ups are sucking.

Run 1:13:52 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Michael dropped me at the SOT so I didn't have to drag myself up that part of the hill after yesterday. Ran up the Harry Ell then along my favourite tracks and up Mt Vernon then down Huntsbury and home. Legs felt exhausted but it was awesome and the weather was amazing. One of those days where I wished I didn't have to come back down the hill and could keep going.
5 PM

MTB 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

At Bottle Lake while Michael went for a run (chasing after me!). Reminded me why I love mountain biking although the tracks here are a bit easy.

MTB 3:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Out to Clare's house then we biked up Kennedy's Bush which wasn't too bad really if you were in the right gear but it was ridiculously hot. Then I attempted Flying Nun and didn't do so well. Had a bit of a meltdown. Then we cruised down the track next to Dyers Pass which was quite nice and back down the road. I need to ride my mtb more.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At The Roxx with Michael, Tim and Stephanie. Climbing okay considering how long since we last climbed but got a bit of cramp in my fingers again and my right wrist is playing up. Grump!

Run 29:26 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Cruising along the river listening to the News Quiz. Legs felt heavy but okay. There was a "lovely" headwind on the way home again (although it didn't feel as bad as when I was biking home earlier...almost felt like I was riding backwards then!).

Run long 1:49:11 [3] 16.81 km (6:30 / km) +674m 5:25 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Since there was no Wednesday night run we made our own! Michael was game enough to join me on my planned route which was awesome 'cause it was tough. Ran from our place along the river then up Worsley. SO long. I think we were running up hill for about 45 minutes or something. From the top we cruised along Flying Nun where I started to get that sucky stomach pain again so we slowed down a bit. Then home via Harry Ell and the streets. The downhill just goes on forever. Awesome run and I'm killing the hill these days :-P

Run 1:06:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Up to the red tarns and then through the bush track. I didn't want to go home. Considered throwing a tantrum but I still don't think Michael would have let us stay. Could have been worth a try though...

Run 2:35:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

At Mt Cook! Oh yeah! Along the kea point track and then groveling up to the Sealy tarns (walking by this stage...if you can run that then, well, all power to you, you freak) but it was all snowy so the only part of a tarn we could see was covered in ice. Back down again which destroyed the legs then a nice jog back to laze in the hot sun.
3 PM

Walk 1:45:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Checking out the Tasman lake and glacier and the blue lakes and pretty much baking to death. I was almost convinced to go swimming...almost.

Run 12:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

We were going to jog out along the peninsula track in Mt Tekapo but didn't get very far before deciding that lambing was very definitely in progress.

Run 46:45 [3]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Michael dropped me at the bottom of Mt John as he was feeling even sicker than me for once and I groveled up the hill. I remember thinking last time I was here that this was a big hill but it's easier than the one out my back door. Felt pretty ill though. Met Michael at the top and we ran around the summit track and then I ran back down and along the road. The sun was well and truly out by then and trying to kill me!

Note

Biking home in those head and cross winds felt like having my life sucked out of me. I am sick of the wind.
6 PM

Run 40:03 [2]
(sick) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

With Michael on a tikitour route to and from the supermarket to get toilet paper. Just cruising and feeling pretty good although I seem to have the beginnings of another cold or something that is making my neck feel like it's swollen up.

Orienteering 1:45:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

The OY was cancelled (earthquake damage on the access road last weekend apparently) so we had our own orienteering training out at Woodend. Michael went round with me which was good 'cause I'm pretty much terrified since Leithfield. I wish we'd had a camera to take some photos of the huge cracks in the ground...real leg-swallowing stuff! Just wait till even more pine needles fall...

Saturday Oct 15, 2011 #

Road Bike 2:00:10 [2]

Up to SOT in the mist and drizzle to watch Le Race and to freeze to death! Then out to Sumner to for hot drinks then home again. Hanging with Michael, Greig and Clare. Don't leave the house for a ride after only eating a muesli bar at 7am...when you don't get home again until just before midday (not expected on my part!)...so I got the serious shakes. Michael had to push me up the final hill to home!

Run hills 1:46:30 [3] 16.4 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday night run by myself. I didn't think anyone would turn up tonight so I ran up to SOT from home (found a much better way than up Holliss Ave) and waited for about 10 minutes just in case (and 'cause catching my breath seemed nice!). No one showed so I headed up the Harry Ell then over to those tracks through the little patches of bush. Coming down the first one I heard some fast looking dude behind me and let him go past for the second bush. Could keep up with him on the uphill but he got away going down. I was going to head back along the mtb track but he headed up Mt Vernon so I thought, hey, lets do that too! He stopped to die halfway up and I passed him. Felt good! Went down and then round the mtb track, then down Huntsbury and home. Awesome run and felt really good today. Must have been those dried dates I had in my pocket.

Gym - Cardio warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Gym (Weights and core) 50:00 [3]

Took a trip to the Pioneer Gym on my way home from work. My arms are totally dying now!

Run (treadmill) 10:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Trying to run fast but I really don't run very fast :(
Faster than anyone else at the gym today though so I guess that's something!

Run 43:54 [3] 7.6 km (5:47 / km) +230m 5:01 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Little run up Huntsbury and around the streets up there looking at the fancy houses then down again with a detour into some random little park. My legs were tired on the hill and I should probably have just run along the river or something but I don't tend to do sensible things like that and hills are like magnets. Anyway, afterwards Jenni and Carsten cooked me dinner and it had two of my favourite foods in it...tofu and peanut butter :)

Road Bike 1:20:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

From Michael's parents house in Rangiora to home. Firstly, I didn't get lost!!!!! This is a huge miracle for anyone who knows my getting lost sagas (and those desperate calls to Michael to tell me where I've managed to end up). Michael was obviously not quite so convinced I'd make it without getting lost (well, he was actually checking I was okay since I got a bit of confidence knocked out last week by that car but I'm sure he wasn't totally convinced I would make it without a wrong turn). Secondly, there was a horrible crosswind. Thirdly, I got across the scary bridge (only scary because people talked it up beforehand...and there were no cars behind me so it was fine). Fourthly, my legs felt good and mostly recovered. I must be awesome...or something like that.

Rogaine race (Castle Hill Rogaine) 4:29:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

The last of Tim's rogaines with Michael but the only one I've done (being good to try and rest my foot from these long, torturous races). It was freezing to start off with...for the first little while we had snow falling around us. But the weather cleared and turned out awesome by the end.

Our route was pretty good but I felt pretty tired on the first climb and bush bash. Breathing was also really bad today. Might be partly because I hadn't had nearly enough sleep this week. We ran quite a lot and I hit the wall at about 3:15 about halfway up some super steep hill which required hands and feet to get up (or maybe that was because I was so tired!).

The last half an hour was a pretty speedy run to get down the final hill and get the last of the close controls in time...we made it with about a minute to spare!

Awesome race. Controls all appeared to be in the correct place and the map seemed pretty good (much better than the last rogaine we did!). Now I am completely exhausted but I've noticed I've got better in these longer races at pushing right near to the edge of what I can.

Walk 30:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

After dinner with Michael. We just went the short route up the steps to the Village Green and back down Dyers Pass. My legs still work but I am so tired :(

Thursday Oct 6, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Too tired and too busy. Last night shattered me! Gotta rest up for this rogaine on Saturday anyway...if Tane is racing with Andy then perhaps I have my one and only teeny tiny chance of beating him (Tane that is...I've already bet Andy lots at rogaines...and hills!!). My arm is quite sore today too.

Wednesday Oct 5, 2011 #

Note

Got hit by a car on my way home from work today so I was all shaky riding over to the run and back. My chain had come off after the run so I was busy fixing that when Steve and Rob just rode off without me :(
6 PM

Run 1:21:17 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday night run. Good turnout tonight despite it being really cold. Quite possibly my best attempt at running up the hills thanks to Georgia's good pacing all the way up even when it got steep and I wanted to die. Normally I think I stop a couple of times on the way so yay! Died on the bush tracks though and then felt a bit shaky all the way down the hill especially when everyone decided to dive off into the tussocks. Good run with good company and it cheered me up after a crappy day.

Gym - Cardio warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

5 minutes on some random walkery thing that felt like it wanted to throw me off then 5 minutes on the cross trainer. Everything else was full.

Gym (weights and core) 50:00 [3]

At the Pioneer Gym with Michael 'cause it was wet which meant no mtbing as per the original plan and it seemed like a bit of a laugh. Various arms and legs stuff on the fancy machines then a little bit of core stuff. My arms now feel like total jelly. Even washing my hair afterwards felt exhausting!

Monday Oct 3, 2011 #

6 PM

Run 47:11 [3] 8.5 km (5:33 / km) +212m 4:56 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Little run along the river the long way then up and down a bit by the hospital then up the street and the steps of DOOM where I died...all the way to Dyers Pass Road then back down the hill to home. Feeling SO slow and unfit especially on the hills but that's okay. Those steps are very mean. Listening to random comedy shows seem to help my breathing when I'm running which is good because it's been getting really really bad again. It seems to help me stop panicking and I appear to worry a lot less about how slow I am (or at least think I am) running. The "sound" experiment seems successful! Music, however, doesn't help at all.

Sunday Oct 2, 2011 #

4 PM

MTB 1:45:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Cruising round Bottle Lake and out to Spencer Park with Michael running after me (I feel a bit bad 'cause he took a different, shorter track at one point and I thought we were going to meet up at Spencer Park but he thought we were meeting a little further down so he ran round in circles looking for me and I rode round in circles at the park trying to find him!). There are some cool tracks in the middle somewhere.

Run 2:15:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Out on the hills around Gebbies Pass with Michael and Clare. We climbed some rocks and explored stuff. It was fun.
