Kayaking 4:00:00 [3]

From camp at a cruisy pace round to Mistletoe Bay for an early lunch then another stop at Umungata to laze briefly in the sun then back to Anakiwa. Winds were nice and favourable so we did a little bit of wave surfing near the end. On steerage duty again. The best bit was discovering we could paddle faster than some of the yachts out in the harbour!

Can't wait to do another one of these trips!

Thursday Dec 30, 2010 #

Walk 40:00 [2]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Exploring the gun emplacements on Blumine Island and climbing all the concrete staircases.

Kayaking 4:00:00 [3]

Epic, EPIC day. Short paddle to the bay around the corner for an explore then across to Snake Point which was rough work (I was in the back this time on steerage duty). Stopped at Ratimera Bay for a lateish lunch and snooze in the sun then a ridiculously difficult paddle against the super strong winds to the campsite at Kumutoto Bay. Coming round the point I was seriously in doubt we would be able to make it round...felt like we couldn't even hold our own against the winds. Then once we finally made it into the bay it still was an epic battle to the shore. My arms felt dead so it was a relief to see some familiar faces at the camp to help us ashore.

Wednesday Dec 29, 2010 #

Kayaking 5:00:00 [3]

From Ngakuta Bay all the way out to Blumine Island with a stop at Allports Island for lunch. Good fun and feeling energised again.

Tuesday Dec 28, 2010 #

5 PM

Run 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

With Michael along to the end of the Snout and back. I ran all the way up the hill from the end without needing to stop which I thought was mightily impressive considering how lazy I felt! It was sunny and hot which was novel after such a ridiculously wild morning.

Monday Dec 27, 2010 #

Road Bike 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Oh you know, around...then trying to get as far ahead of Michael when he was driving back from the car rental place. I got all the way to the park before he caught me.

Sunday Dec 26, 2010 #

Note

Stressing, packing, more stressing, traveling, eating, crashing. But my computer is all sorted now.

Saturday Dec 25, 2010 #

7 AM

Road Bike 2:05:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little ride out to Kumeu and back. When did that new roundabout get put in? Then I got to take my bike apart...I'm getting quite good at this!

Friday Dec 24, 2010 #

8 AM

Run long 1:19:36 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Just the usual parks but with an added loop up to Western Park from Grey Lynn Reserve and round that then back down again. Thank god it's not as humid today so leaving after 8am wasn't too bad...there was even the odd nice breeze! Had some wicked stomach and back pain after about 10 minutes which wasn't going away 5 minutes later so had to stop for a little while and thought I'd have to walk home again but it actually went away and didn't come back when I started running again which was magical! So happy to be out running and exploring all the local parks.

Thursday Dec 23, 2010 #

6 AM

Run warm up/down 26:30 [3] 5.22 km (5:05 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

To and from Grey Lynn Park via a couple of detours. The problem with living on the top of a hill is that getting back home is always uphill...I must have worked hard 'cause the run home almost killed me.

Run intervals 24:20 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

3 x twice round the track with recoveries of once round the track then 4 x once round the track with 1 minute recoveries. Was going to do 4 of twice round but my legs felt like they were collapsing under me on the 3rd. I don't know what the distance of the track is but I'm certain it's shorter than 400 metres. Oh, and there are lots of dogs around there too which is entertaining. Actually quite enjoyed myself if that's possible!

Times were: 2:38, 2:46, 2:44 and 1:19, 1:18, 1:18, 1:17

Wednesday Dec 22, 2010 #

Note

On my walk round the lake this evening I noticed the water level is really high which made me wonder if the lake has ever flooded. One of the rocky depressions that is normally dry was quite full of water as well. I also spotted some bird that looked like a cross between a white goose and a black swan...oh and maybe with a bit of duck in there too. That also made me wonder for a while.

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. I like my bike.
6 AM

Run (treadmill) 10:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Gym (arm weights and core) 35:00 [3]

Monday Dec 20, 2010 #

7 PM

Run 34:38 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Down to the lake, up and then back down the Bullock track, up and over bush track in Arch Hill and back then back to home from the lake. A nice collection of hills. Was going to attempt a longer run if my stomach felt okay but was stuck at work much longer than planned. Very glad I made it out in the end though. Good for venting frustration and the rain is pleasant for running. Plus my stomach was mostly okay.

Sunday Dec 19, 2010 #

6 PM

Run 37:46 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

With Michael. Started off doing the usual run but by the time we got to the boardwalk at Coxs Bay my stomach hurt so much we had to stop. Was running super slow and really tried to keep running as long as possible but it was just getting a bit ridiculous.

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

We walked the rest of the way which actually took quite a long time. I was hoping I'd feel better at least by the time we got to Arch Hill but it really wasn't to be. Felt manageable walking though.

Saturday Dec 18, 2010 #

11 AM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

Climbing with Michael at Extreme Edge. SO humid and feeling really weak and wimpy to start with but pulled out some good efforts near the end.

Friday Dec 17, 2010 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Lovely headwind on the way there (not).
6 AM

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 40:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Epic. But I've definitely got stronger on the bike since the last time I went to class which was cool to see plus I'm much better at handling the heat (my efficient cooling system of sweating so much it looks like I've been rained on seems to work quite well...as long as you don't need to open your eyes!).

Gym (core and stretches) 15:00 [3]

Thursday Dec 16, 2010 #

6 PM

Run 1:04:11 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Look at me! Running in the evening again! I couldn't be bothered getting up this morning so I got to run tonight in the lovely rain...which actually was pretty much perfect 'cause I never got hot and it was warm enough to not get cold. But my running cap was very helpful...meant I didn't get another water bath for the eyes! Pretty much the same route as last Friday (the lake, Jaggers Bush, Coxs Bay, Grey Lynn Park, Arch Hill Reserve, Bullock Track) but with a slight shortcut. I was running slower than a snail but it was nice to be running.

Wednesday Dec 15, 2010 #

6 PM

Run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

To and from the event. Felt quite good on the run home up the hill but I was mightily glad I wasn't Owen and didn't have to run 5km back to work again.

Orienteering race (SS - Western Springs) 54:34 [3] 8.0 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Started off a little fast and then just felt so tired and hot...SO hot. It was such a runner's course tonight and I am not very fast. I did enjoy a bit of a bash round in the bush for 8 and 9 though. Oh yeah, and worked out where I can get through the fence down by the college so gotta remember that for next time. Need to do some more running now that I am basically all recovered and everything.

Tuesday Dec 14, 2010 #

6 AM

Road Bike 35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Coming home was quite possibly the most miserable 20 minutes of my life (actually, make that 25 minutes because I got so many red lights as well)...it was so wet I was completely drenched, even inside my shoes, within about a minute. Getting wet was okay. It was more that the rain was flying straight into my eyes. Should have swum home instead!!!

Run (treadmill) 10:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Increasing the speed every 2 minutes. Perhaps there is a miniscule bit of hope for me yet...

Gym (arm weights and core) 35:00 [3]

The usual, and getting sidetracked being social.

Monday Dec 13, 2010 #

Note

Was supposed to meet Chris and Haydn for climbing but looks like I'm going to be stuck at work for quite some time...

Sunday Dec 12, 2010 #

6 AM

Road Bike long 3:30:00 [3] 74.0 km (2:50 / km) +1291m 2:37 / km
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

I think I have gone completely mad! Decided that since I wasn't going to get another chance in a while that I'd do a double attack at Scenic Drive...i.e. go up and over and then back again. Had to leave early in time to get to my parents' 40th anniversary lunch and it was wet (actually, very wet up in the hills). Felt pretty good most of the way until I'd stop to take a mini break and my legs would feel like jelly by the top of the second time. But was still faster than some other dude (he passed me on a downhill and I got stuck behind him again climbing...so I just cruised on his tail). So now I need to come up with my next challenge!

Saturday Dec 11, 2010 #

9 AM

MTB 1:40:00 [1]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Took Debbie for a cruise around the bike park. She'd never been mtbing before and only ridden a couple of times with me on a bike for years so she was awesome.

Friday Dec 10, 2010 #

7 PM

Run long 1:05:26 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

It's been ages since I've done a run this long...not that it's even really that long but considering my lack of running I'm counting it as long and I never run this late but I wanted to sleep in and it was too hot earlier in the day. Wasn't too worried about my speed, more about just keeping going for that long and was quite happy with how I felt even if it was really slow. Down and round the lake, through Jaggers Bush, Cox Bay Reserve, Grey Lynn Reserve, over to Arch Hill and along the track through the bush then up the Bullock Track (the track, not the road) and home again. I think I quite like running.

Thursday Dec 9, 2010 #

6 AM

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Again, showing the other commuters who is boss and getting frustrated at light cycles which won't see bikes.

Run (treadmill) 10:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

With a little bit of running "fast"...just to see if I sort of could.

Gym (arm weights and core) 35:00 [3]

Wednesday Dec 8, 2010 #

6 PM

Orienteering race (SS - Epsom Campus) 1:12:43 [3] 9.0 km (8:05 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Oh man I feel SO unfit and SO slow! Oh, and I can't orienteer my way out of a paperbag! Stuffed around getting myself lost on pretty much every control in the different campuses and felt like I was dying on all the long road legs. Oh, and got attacked by blackberry. Excellent!

Tuesday Dec 7, 2010 #

6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

At Extreme Edge with Chris and Haydn. Oh my god I am so weak, especially my finger grip which failed me on the last couple of climbs. Always fun to fall about 10cm from the top!

Monday Dec 6, 2010 #

6 AM

Run warm up/down 23:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Warmup (13:30) round the lake and then over to the fields. Warmdown from the fields to the lake, then back up the hill, past my house and round the block and then home...I thought I was going to die getting up that hill!

Run intervals 12:40 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

On the grass at Seddon Fields round the outside of the rugby field. 4 x 400 metre sprints with 200m recoveries (about 2 minutes walk/jog). I am SO slow and I thought I was going to die! The sprinkler system also decided to attack me and I got nice and drenched which was rather refreshing!

Times were 1:37, 1:42, 1:40, 1:40

Run hills (Jaggers Bush Hill Sprints) 16:45 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

3 x intervals with 2 minute recoveries from the Old Mill Rd end of Jaggers Bush along the track then up the hill to Notley St and then back down again. Could have gone harder on the uphill I think but at least I've left lots of room for improvement right?! My legs still felt like jelly afterwards though...

Times were 4:17, 4:14, 4:14

Sunday Dec 5, 2010 #

Note

Was going to go mountain biking with Andy and co but didn't hear from them and was feeling pretty tired anyway so just caught up on a few things. Walked to and from St Lukes and Harvest in the blazing sun and made vegan cheese 'cause I'm awesome like that.

Saturday Dec 4, 2010 #

9 AM

Run 44:12 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Down to the lake and round with my nice little detours then through to Jaggers Bush and up, down to Cox Bay Reserve, through the mangrove and then back up home again. Either the Meola loop I missed out takes longer than I thought or I was running faster than it felt like...I'm pretty sure it wasn't the running faster since I felt like a snail. Was just glad I could run though since I've been feeling so weird lately.
11 AM

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To and from the gym. Some dude tried to pass me at the lights (he got there just as they turned green whereas I'd been sitting there for a while) but he got shown who was boss.

Yoga 55:00 [2]

Gerald was back taking the class today...he's awesome.

Friday Dec 3, 2010 #

10 AM

MTB 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Thought I'd cruise back over to Albany and give the tracks another, more decent go (well, get on the tracks we didn't go on). It is a bloody maze out there! It's all very well to have these out signs but even once you're following them it can still take forever and once on the Westie trail I thought I might be stuck in there forever 'cause there were no signs anywhere! Then it took me up to where I'd already been...I knew I'd been encountering dejavu...so I don't know what happened there. But I was riding better by the end (started off terribly and sucked).
7 PM

Walk 25:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the lake. Conscious breathing.

Wednesday Dec 1, 2010 #

Road Bike 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Felt like hard work!
6 AM

Run (treadmill) 15:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Because I felt like it. Good to know that I haven't become super slow...just slow (which is probably not saying that much since I wasn't very fast to start with)!

Gym (arm weights and core) 30:00 [3]
