Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Ran down to and around "District 9" then back towards town a bit. There was no stopping once you got there 'cause despite being early-ish morning the place was very much alive and a bit scary!

Walk 45:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Back to the motel via town and round the Botanic Gardens. Feeling the effects of the wicked sunstroke I managed to get yesterday.

Wednesday Dec 30, 2009 #

Run 1:04:25 [3] 12.0 km (5:22 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Down the main street and across the bridge to Titirangi Reserve and up to the top of Kaiti Hill. Wicked views and stunning weather. The slog back was pretty tough though 'cause it's so damn flat once you get down off the hill. Felt way better than yesterday despite standing around and dancing all yesterday afternoon and night and then a rather large lack of sleep.

Run 44:05 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Ran from the motel through the back streets, around the Botanic Gardens and to the base of Titirangi Reserve then back through town. I was so buggered and starting to feel a bit sore so ended up stopping a few blocks before the motel. Got totally drenched which was quite refreshing.

Walk warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Back to the motel once I couldn't be bothered running any more!

Monday Dec 28, 2009 #

Run long 1:25:15 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Same route as yesterday only running instead of walking. Once I got to the top of Mt Eden I kind of slowed down. Felt okay but slow.

Sunday Dec 27, 2009 #

Walk 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 3

Was going to go for a longish run but wasn't really feeling up for it so walked what I'd planned instead. Up Mt Eden, Mt St John and OTH wearing my new pack to test it out.

Note

Spent the afternoon teaching my cousin to ride a bike...good fun.

Saturday Dec 26, 2009 #

Note

Going to the boxing day sales is the silliest idea on the planet and quite possibly the most exhausting thing I've ever done!

Friday Dec 25, 2009 #

Run 42:29 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round the outer dirt track and up to the summit of OTH. Gorgeous morning but feeling like absolute crap. Felt a bit more able to deal with Christmas by the end though!

Thursday Dec 24, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Woodhill. Out to the far end of the park and back. There was virtually no one there which was super cool and the weather was awesome. I wished I hadn't been in such a hurry to get back otherwise I would have stayed a lot longer. Feeling a lot more confident today.

Wednesday Dec 23, 2009 #

Run 1:45:17 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

Same as Monday except I headed down the ecology trail and back up onto the South Coast track the long way which added a bit more distance and more hills. Oh, and didn't have to stop by Bill's place. Felt better than Monday which was good and only stopped briefly 3 times which was great (at the water tanks, Tokatu Point and back at the water tanks on the way home). The weather probably helped as it was cooler and overcast plus I'd got up much earlier. When I think about it the only flat section is from Jones Bay to the lagoon which is about 1km (so 2km there and back). Everything else is just endless hills. It's weird 'cause the bit I hate the most is that flat section along the road!

Tuesday Dec 22, 2009 #

Walk 3:45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

From the bay bashing through the long grass and then up the predator fence to the Westend track, down to the lagoon, up over the South Coast track to Tokatu Point, along the North Coast track, down the ecology trail through the bush then back along another section of the Westend track to the lagoon and home again. It was blazing hot and my feet felt a bit sore...I don't think they like these shoes very much.

Monday Dec 21, 2009 #

Run 1:39:55 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

From the bay to Tawharanui and over the South Coast track to Tokatu Point then along the North Coast track and back over the hills of the South Coast to the lagoon and down to the bay via Bill's place to let him know about the gate. Thankfully there was a bit of a breeze 'cause I hadn't woken up nearly as early as I'd wanted to avoid the heat. Legs felt good but my stomach felt rather awful.

Sunday Dec 20, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 3:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Woodhill bike park. Out to the far end again but again rode the odd track I hadn't done before. Probably best to avoid one of the ones I picked since it was a sand-fest and I had to push my bike through it which kind of lowered the spirit! Felt rather uncoordinated, tired and hungover which was all to be expected considering last night but I kind of picked up a bit near the end when I got back on the easy trails so did a quick loop round Natures Valley or whatever it is just to finish off.

Walk 30:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Gel Trabuco IX WR

Up to the "house sites" and back after dinner.

Saturday Dec 19, 2009 #

Walk 1:00:00 [2]

Round and up OTH. No time or energy for anything else but SO needed to get out of the damn kitchen and get some fresh air!

Friday Dec 18, 2009 #

Run warm up/down 19:57 [2] 4.0 km (4:59 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

To the gym. Legs were stiff but felt pretty good running. Fingers on the other hand (not that you need them for running) were not feeling so crash hot!

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

My last class for the year...champagne and strawberries (actually I passed this year since I was running home again the long way but it's always nice and festive)! Good class and my legs felt great (well, you know, as good as they can feel when you are pushing them hard).

Run 1:14:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Home from the gym via the summits of Mt Eden, Mt Saint Johns and OTH. Beautiful morning, didn't die as much as I expected and it was overall rather pleasant! The last km back down the road was rough but other than that I didn't feel all that bad.

Thursday Dec 17, 2009 #

Run 57:10 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Round OTH along the dirt track and up to the summit a couple of times. Legs were feeling really stiff (probably 'cause I spent pretty much all yesterday sitting down) but they got a little better as I warmed up but I felt pretty slow...although I managed to pass the odd runner so can't have been as much of a snail as I felt.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

My fingers are still feeling the burn! As usual it was an epic session but both Chris and I were more lacking in strength than usual. But I did conquer the black 19 with the crazy start...I should give myself one last chance more often 'cause it sure seemed to work!

Wednesday Dec 16, 2009 #

Run warm up/down (treadmill) 10:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Because Alex said I wasn't allowed to use the rower and I didn't fancy any of the other machines. I like running. Would rather it wasn't a gym day today!

Gym (weights and core) 1:15:00 [3]

Tuesday Dec 15, 2009 #

Orienteering race (SS Big King) 56:39 [3] 7.2 km (7:52 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

I really enjoyed this course tonight and this map always surprises me. Route choice (I tended to go round the tracks rather than up and over...sometimes this was quicker but sometimes I suspect not). Was also cool having the map change because I'd much rather go to the same control twice (but in a different combination) than head out for miles on the roads. Felt pretty crappy to start with but once I got going I felt okay (except on that hill up to #6 on the second map...that was cruel!).

Monday Dec 14, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Super tough class this morning but my legs felt pretty good and attempted to give it all I had. Great outlet for excess anger.

Gym (core and stretches) 20:00 [3]

Saturday Dec 12, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 3:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Out at Woodhill in the drizzle and muggy heat. Rode out to the end of the park and around the odd trail I hadn't been on before then did (Natures Valley or whatever it's called) to finish off as I wasn't ready to leave yet. It's shocking but I might actually quite like mountain biking!

Friday Dec 11, 2009 #

Run warm up/down 20:05 [3] 4.0 km (5:01 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

To the gym super early. Was stiff when I got up but this helped loosen the legs heaps.

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Ridiculously full-on class but legs were feeling great.

Run 54:44 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Slow, steady run back home from the gym via the OTH outer dirt track and summit. Had to have a few stops 'cause my breathing was a little funny but almost didn't want the run to end. I love early mornings.

Thursday Dec 10, 2009 #

Gym - Cardio warm up/down (cross trainer) 10:00 [4]

Trying not to kill my wrist so no rower for me :(

Gym (weights and core) 1:20:00 [3]

Think I might be due for a new program. Legs felt good and strong despite feeling like blocks of wood all yesterday and when I walked into the gym this morning. Weird.

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

Run warm up/down 25:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

10 minute warmup cruising round to the bottom of Ayr Street the long way. 15 minute warm down through the Domain.

Run hills 25:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Running up Ayr Street (and then cruising back down) 4 times. Pretty slow and felt brutal. Was good though.

Gym (core and stretches) 15:00 [3]

Feeling stiff.

Climbing (Indoor - TR) 2:30:00 [4]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

Another epic session with Chris. It was ridiculously hot especially as you got higher. There were a few new climbs which we had a go at as well as blasting up the 21 and 20 we did last week. The 19 on the shorter wall has one crazy start which I couldn't quite do so ended up having to substitute for now. The rest of the climb was okay. It's funny seeing how differently Chris and I climb. Oh yeah, and I finally went back and tackled my nemisis...and it was easy! Chris was in hysterics and made me do the part I'd got stuck on again 'cause he couldn't believe how easily I did it. No more nightmares about that climb now (I should have gone back and done it weeks ago really)!

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

Orienteering race (SS Churchill Park) 58:44 [3] 7.7 km (7:38 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

Felt like death before I even left so knew it was going to be a tough slog especially with heaps of it on the roads. Spent a while bashing round in the bush to find #1 then stuffed up completely on #2 by getting myself hopelessly confused (how?) and taking a much longer route than necessary. Then couldn't find #3 for ages 'cause it was way lower down than marked on the map. Was okay after that...if only my legs could have run. Lots of route choices out on the road legs though which was cool.

Monday Dec 7, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Good but super tough class this morning with 2 sprint tracks instead of the usual 1 for a change. Pushed hard.
Oh yeah, did I mention I cut the side of my wrist open trying to adjust part of the bike? Clever...(it was my already sore one too so now it's doubly sore!).

Run (treadmill) 22:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Felt like a short blast to run off excess 'crap' in my head. Felt good.

Gym (core and stretches) 15:00 [3]

Sunday Dec 6, 2009 #

MTB (mtb) 2:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Second clips experience and rather miraculously didn't have a fall (although there were some very close calls and a nice ride into a fence!). Went all the way out to the far end and cruised around there. Awesome day. Legs felt good. I felt good. Yeah. How that happens on 3 hours of sleep I don't know but I suspect it will all catch up with me tomorrow and I'll crash again.

Saturday Dec 5, 2009 #

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 3

With Mum round my old haunts of Bucklands and Eastern Beaches.

Friday Dec 4, 2009 #

Peloton (Spin) class intervals 45:00 [5]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Everything feels tired and my arm still hurts from climbing but it was a good class and didn't feel too bad. Always a good way to vent off a bit of steam.

Run (treadmill) 20:00 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Set my alarm for super early in the hope it wouldn't be raining and I could run to and from class but it was pouring and I didn't really feel like getting wet so just had a run on the treadmill afterwards. Did some incline stuff to mix it up. Legs felt quite a lot better afterwards (tired but not so stiff and achey).

Walk warm up/down (treadmill) 5:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Thursday Dec 3, 2009 #

Gym - Cardio warm up/down (Summit trainer) 10:00 [3]

Figured the rower wasn't a good option for my arm so settled on one of the less sucky cardio machines for my warmup.

Gym (weights and core) 1:15:00 [3]

All my muscles still feel rather shaky from last night especially my fingers and forearms. So worth it though.

Wednesday Dec 2, 2009 #

Run warm up/down (treadmill) 22:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

10 minute warmup, 12 minute warm down.

Run intervals (treadmill) 20:00 [5]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 5

Same as usual but with no incline 'cause I didn't really have anything there.

Note

Need to rest, need to sleep, need to eat but am too anxious. Really hope this feeling passes soon.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:30:00 [4]
shoes: Red Chili Spirit Lady

With Chris at Extreme Edge. We both started off shockingly and almost got defeated by a 15 which was highly embarrassing but sucked it up and got to the top. But we both totally redeemed ourselves by both somehow shockingly conquering the purple 21 and then the blue 20 that's made for super tall people on the slab. Was buzzing out after that which kind of made me forget about the rest of my life and how much my arm hurt. It's very hot in there though...I hate to think what the middle of summer is going to be like.

Tuesday Dec 1, 2009 #

Orienteering race (SS One Tree Hill) 54:12 [3] 6.9 km (7:51 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

Felt terribly sluggish and tired the whole way which wasn't really surprising since I'd barely slept or ate. At least my brain was concentrating although there was a bit of a home turf advantage since I'd see where the control was on the map and knew pretty much exactly where that was. Bet Allan and Owen despite my distinct lack of speed. That's a positive I guess.
