Climbing 1:45:00 [2]

I was pretty down so it wasn't a good climbing night although I managed to get myself up a couple of okay climbs at the end as well as some decent smearing practice. Generally not doing so well which is not very good. Hopefully I can get through the Waitangi orienteering okay.

Following Jono round course 2 (I was better at keeping my mouth shut this time!). I had to stop and walk to a few when my shins decided to start feeling uncomfortable. So frustrating as they had felt really good at physio today.

Round Coxs Bay Reserve and neighbouring streets. Both Jono and I felt smashed (him literally after touch) so we were pretty slow and dying although strangely feeling much better and less in pain afterwards.

Round One Tree Hill with Nick, Tracey, their dog and Ee for our Taupo relay team training run. Cruisey as usual especially as we had to wait for the dog. It was so hot I thought I could melt! Shins were generally good.

I could almost get the hang of this! Okay, so I'm still a bit unco but I didn't have to get off at all to push the bike up any hills or get across intersections and I didn't fall off so I am improving!

Climbing with Debs. It was SO hot in there tonight so needed lots of chalk. I'd get halfway up the wall and my palms would be sweating real bad. I'm definatly improving, getting the whole pushing up to grab the next hold rather than desperately reaching for it (and undoubtably it being hopelessly out of my reach). I struggled with that overhang again though. Mike had me practicing smearing (with no footholds) at the end which killed me completely.

It was like a sauna in the gym this morning. If it keeps up like this I will completely melt. Other than that the program is going well. Had physio afterwards where she yet again decided the lump on my leg was a bit of a mystery. It felt better afterwards though, unlike last week, and the bruise has gone again.

No ice skating tonight so I was trailing Jono round course 2. His navigation is fairly shifty! It's been ages since I've been at Summer Series and actually been able to do a course. Legs a bit dead and tender so I don't think we'll be running tomorrow morning but at least I got out tonight.

Going so slow at the moment. I didn't set out to run so many hills but my feet kept taking me to them! The misty rain was a relief as it was already ridiculously muggy first thing in the morning and I had trouble breathing that well. My shin was feeling a bit tender which is frustrating. We'll see what the physio thinks tomorrow.

Round One Tree Hill with some of the Taupo Relay team. It was pretty cruisey and I mostly just stuck with Ee trying to spur him on. We probably started a bit fast for the rest of our team so they were dying after about 15 minutes so we dropped the pace right back.

Morning run through the Domain and Museum loop with Jono. My legs felt so stiff that it was awful! My left shin felt a bit tender part way through but was okay. I just felt a bit miserable about being so slow.

The burn on my wrist keeps blistering up and looking like some kind of hideous deformity every time I sweat too much!

I started off feeling really rusty but was feeling fairly confident by the end. By the time we tried out the overhang we were all a little weary and only Debs made it to the top. I'm definately trying that earlier next time. My smearing is improving though.

Down to Western Springs and round the lake then back up to the rugby fields while Jono was playing touch. My legs felt stiff and I was running like a snail but shins were fine. It was way too hot to be running which reminded me why I hate running after work.

30 second sprint intervals with Jono at Coxs Bay Reserve (or more like fast running intervals since I can't sprint to save myself). Exhausting!

Ah, the killer way to start a Monday morning. Legs were feeling stiff as anything to start with but soon improved. Generally feeling a bit fitter again at last.

It was such an awesome night (and I was home for once) that I thought I'd take the bike out, get the tires pumped and then cruise around for a bit. Got to the pump which then proceeded to flatten my bike tire instead of pump it. After several overly helpful guys attempted to get it working we decided it was a lost cause so I got a lift home with a truck driver. There went my peaceful evening ride idea!

First run without a warmup walk. From Jono's apartment around the Domain and back then round the block to add a few more minutes. Looks like I have successfully completed the gentle buildup the physician guy set for me but the damn lump is still as big as ever. Also this run was the first time my legs felt almost normal...but terribly slow and weak.

My arms felt like jelly, my feet hurt and I was feeling terribly wimpy! Climbing the slab I felt afraid of heights for the first time ever so that was weird. It was a tough night and by the end I was completely useless but Debs was amazing.

Crappy ice for the first hour then come the public session they smooth it over so it was good for, like 15 minutes until the madness that is the public destroyed it as usual. The zamboni must have been fixed.

Running down every street in Whiritoa with Jono. It was so muggy I felt like someone had stuck a pillowcase over my head. We both felt pretty buggered. The dive into the surf afterwards was the best part.

Round the Domain with Jono. Similar to the previous run but a slightly longer loop round the museum. We raced some runners on the final stretch round the field and bet them which was encouraging since I was feeling so slow. Everything just felt so dead today and my leg was pretty tender after a brutal physio session yesterday.

It's been a long time since I've done this so was pretty happy with my time. Was doing good for the first 1000m (looking at a time under 9 minutes) but flagged in the last half.

A very quiet public session in the evening with Jono. The ice was amazing! Did lots of work on my edges.
