Orienteering race (Christmas Caper) 1:23:44 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Nothing to say worth saying.

MTB 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With M up Rapaki, along Witch Hill the good way then back along the road up to top of Castle Rock where we decided it was too windy too be fun heading down that track so back along Witch Hill and down Farm Track. I hate all this horrible never-ending wind. Everyone always says Wellington is the windy city but these days I'm not so sure.

Strength and Conditioning 40:00 [3]

Forgot that I'd done this...probably because I was interrupted by Joe at the door cutting it short.

Road Bike 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Up Hackthorne (Dyers is closed, causing some serious traffic jams and too narrow gaps for cyclists - at least I can't see the chaos that well from the back) to the Bellbird and back with M. Kinda got the shakes by the kiwi but sometimes I can be tough so somehow didn't fall off.

Run 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Nice hot and cruisey Wed night run up the hill from the Sumner Valley followed by delicious Mexican. Even M came :-P

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruising out to the time trial and then a bit of a warmup beforehand.
6 PM

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TT) 25:22 [4] 16.0 km (1:35 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Hard hard work. The way out the wind was more or less in our favour but on the way back, yep, it was rough going. My legs are now completely shot.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 35:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Very slow ride home.

MTB race (MTBO Rogaine) 3:47:14 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Yep, just went out and cruised the fun tracks for the first 3 hours with some nice climbs and a deep ford I ended up crossing twice! Trying too hard to get points seemed pretty pointless and I knew I'd just feel pretty miserable if I did that. Was much more fun this way. Wrist was pretty unhappy, especially when I attempted to haul my bike up some impossible track when I should have taken the longer route round which I could have ridden.
The thing I hate about MTBO rogaines is that in a foot rogaine I know, given enough time, I can physically get any of the controls on the map but on a bike I just can't. And then there are stupid fences I'm supposed to get my bike over when I can't even lift it very far off the ground without feeling ill. And I'm sick of certain people telling me it's so easy. Sure, a couple of years ago I was throwing my bike over fences 10 times in an hour with ease but this is now and I'm lucky that I can ride so stop telling me what I should be able to do.
Sorry, rant over now.
4 PM

Putting out/bringing in controls 20:00 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Got dropped off at the start of a track and jogged along to pick a control. It wasn't in the place marked on the map. Then cruised down some overgrown track to the car where I almost fell asleep in the shade waiting for the others to get back.

10 AM

MTB race (Nationals MTBO Sprint) 31:02 [3] 7.2 km (4:19 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Feeling so anxious I could barely breathe and riding my own bike down the road to the start just felt really weird! But felt okay once I got going. Just sort of cruised around attempting to have fun, not get run over by the speedy riders, and not panic.
2 PM

MTB race (Nationals MTBO Long) 2:43:51 [3] 30.7 km (5:20 / km) +910m 4:39 / km
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Really not keen to race by the afternoon and was very much hoping Emily would have to take my bike and I could go running.
Anyway, the wind was ridiculous and it nearly blew me off the road a few times then getting to #2 was just ridiculous despite trying to find the route I could ride the most with less pushing. I couldn't push or carry my bike up the 2 contours I did have to get it up and was so close to giving up. Ended up getting above the bike and dragging it up with my left arm. It took a long time and I felt ill by the top. Was pretty angry at this point but the course improved once I tipped my bike over the fence from #3 (my poor bike - dropped, dragged, thrown). Did get a bit confused at a clearing which I mistook for a track junction and I stood there for, quite probably, a full 5 minutes not knowing what to do.
M came to meet me near the end for some final cheering. I ignored the fast route a few times and took some nice single track instead since who really cares about my slow times and I was so so over the boring gravel roads.
5 PM

Putting out/bringing in controls 36:00 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Jogging round bringing in some controls, running on some lovely single track. Yep, should have gone running instead of this MTBO thing.

6 PM

Run 1:04:53 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Cruising up Rapaki with M and co on their mtbs. Then Witch Hill loop while they had fun in the rocks then by myself down the valley. Nice and slow.
Probably should have been riding but I didn't feel like Joe telling me all the things I was doing wrong after already having half an hour of how I should change my bike to be like Sarah's. Plus my wrist hates me lots. Sorry, grump of the day now over.

Wednesday Nov 19, 2014 #

5 PM

Road Bike (windtrainer) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Little ride on the trainer before cake group or whatever it really is whilst trying to finish the book. It's hard to ride hard whilst reading a book. Try it. Was going to do stretches and abs when I got home but forgot I had certificates to make, update the website and all that jazz. It's never ending. Can I retire from this job now? No one really wants my certificates anyway as far as I can tell.

Tuesday Nov 18, 2014 #

6 PM

Run 56:29 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

No time trial 'cause M was injured and can't go to Wed night run tomorrow as I'll be too busy eating cake so went running tonight instead. Up the valley and Rapaki, Witch Hill loop, round Mt Vernon then down Farm Track and into the valley. Windy would be an understatement.

Putting out/bringing in controls 3:30:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Checking first controls block with M, putting out boxes in valley and far sinkholes, being chased by cows turning on controls out the back and on eastern slopes. Got lost on the 2nd to last control! I can't orienteer to save myself. Sigh. Once I got back, spent quite a while rescuing old ladies trying to cross the fence halfway round their course. Sorry about that too but I'm sure they thought fences were preferable to another 100 metres of climb.

Sorry about the electric fences. Farmer said they would be off. Apparently he even did a demonstration for Jan. I didn't test the ones out the back as I assumed they hadn't been turned off yet when I was out in the morning.

People didn't seem to hate the courses as much as I was worried they would and the scary men did not finish in under an hour which was another fear.

12 PM

Orienteering race (SI Champs Middle) 1:11:35 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

The first 4 controls and then the last 5 or so were a disaster but the middle was okay. Was so over it though. The map was fine but the rock stuff was just frustrating thinking I knew were the control was but not being able to get round the stupid thing. Tried to help Frances and some other ladies through the rock.
4 PM

Orienteering race (Si Champs Sprint) 31:33 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Really really couldn't be bothered. The beginning was okay but then I lost focus and motivation. Couldn't find the "way" through the green to #9 and after that was grumpy. Further proof I'm slow and useless. Can I just go rogaining or ride the tandem or something instead?

12 PM

Putting out/bringing in controls 6:00:00 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Putting out stakes, checking control sites, and trying not to panic/freak out. Long day. Control stakes are heavy especially since I mostly had the, well, heavy ones. Managed a good record of getting all of mine in the right place according to M and only failing to get one into the ground (I had a tantrum at that point!).

Run 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Wed night run in the Bowenvale and around the tops. Some scary-looking people turned up this evening! Legs feeling, umm, tired! But as least my thighs aren't so bad now. Also nice to know Emily also had embarrassingly sore muscles after Sunday.

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 35:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Riding over and laps up and down before the start as usual.
6 PM

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TT) 25:20 [4] 16.0 km (1:35 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

My thighs (and arms which is just plain weird) are still achy from the weekend's mad finish sprint so felt a little bit pathetic. Luckily M seemed to be in form! We seemed fairly even, just a bit slower on the way back probably which makes sense with the wind.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 30:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruisey ride home again.

Monday Nov 10, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Book group, maps, designy stuff, just generally seeing how long I can go with not nearly enough sleep. Maybe if we're lucky it will improve after this weekend.

Rogaine race (Mt Evans Rogaine) 6:09:48 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Good, brutal times in the hills with Emily.

11 AM

Road Bike 3:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Lovely ride with Emily F, Emily K, Riki (until his spoke broke) and M on the tandem. Cruised from Hilltop down into Little Akaloa then up and down the bays to Okains Bay for delicious sugar coma at the beach then the glorious climb back up to the Summit Rd and back to Hilltop. Hopefully EK was not put off by the glorious incline of Okains Bay Rd and will ride with us again!

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]

Painful pilates with M.

Wednesday Nov 5, 2014 #

7 AM

Road Bike (windtrainer) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

A few quick intervals and a nice spin before breakfast. Was supposed to be while the ice cream was churning but that didn't go to plan. I seem to not be able to make my brain function these days.
Wrist is still much more sore than what ever classes as normal these days.
6 PM

Run 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Wed night run timed almost to perfection. Stopped hailing just before we started and ran up into the hills where there was no wind and blue sky. Just coming out of the valley when it started to bucket down again.
Legs feeling crap though.

Tuesday Nov 4, 2014 #

7 PM

Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

M didn't turn up and then it started hailing so by the time he finally arrived home it was more than bleak outside so I didn't get to go to the time trial and test the new tyres :-(
Instead we went for a jog around the neighbourhood and to the supermarket. And now I feel really fat because I didn't do the time trial which isn't exactly logical but it appears that neither am I.
