MTB 5:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Yeah you know, just a little ride to ease the muscles...not! From Arthur's Point round the Moonlight trail (feeling shattered and wimpy so an awful lot of bike pushing/carrying) then down to Moke Lake and round that (fantastic, beautiful single track) then along the road back towards Queenstown for a burger and finally slogging back to Arthur's Point mostly along some slow gravel track by the road. So tired but such amazing scenery!

From Arrowtown along the river with Michael. Both feeling absolutely shattered so we didn't get very far before turning back. Good timing though 'cause then it started to rain! Wrist was very sore :-(

Adventure Racing race (Spring Challenge) 11:30:00 [4]
(injured)

Quite epic especially since I was feeling pretty crappy for so much of the race. Horrible wetsuit run then rather exciting raft where there was at least 1 flip behind us in the final rapid and we had to turn around to see if they needed rescuing (and apparently a few raft guides fell out as well which is rather amusing...as it wasn't us). A pretty slow transition as Neroli got stuck in her wetsuit and we had to enlist help to get her out then basically a run along a trail to the next transition. The boys got us out pretty quick and then it was off to go for a slippery ride in the mud. Emily had a few amusing skids but thankfully I had my nobby nicks on so I was pretty good! But then on the massive climb up Coal Pit Road I was dying really bad. Got a bit of a tow but mostly it was just one hell of a slog with Emily and Neroli carrying most of my gear! So good to see the guys at the saddle cheering us on. Then it was a hair raising descent down to TA2. The "rogaine" went pretty well (we couldn't find the control descriptions - which turned out to be on the clip card all along!) but Neroli's knee was getting bad so the descents were very slow. Then it was an easier ride back up to the saddle and down the road again but my wrist and whole arm was pretty over it by then. Had to stop a few times going down to let it settle down. The final trek was rough as I had been struggling to eat on the previous stuff so nearing the top of the climb I was almost on hands and knees. Another slow descent in the dark but we managed a limping jog! So good to get to the finish. Our mega-sized support crew were awesome. You know it's Spring Challenge when you have a whole group of guys waiting on you hand and foot!

I don't remember doing anything (other than racing round on errands)...?

MTB 50:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Whizzing round on Mary Poppins at Bottle Lake putting out controls for NightNav. Those walking tracks make the best mtb tracks!
8 PM

MTB 35:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Bringing in controls in the dark. Good fun!

MTB 1:05:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Major Aiken and Huntsbury (with a fun little downhill diversion!) then along the road and down Rapaki. Bumped into Tim heading up so we had a nice little chat before continuing into the cold. Noticing I am slowly feeling more at home on the bike again (well, when it's easy riding anyway).

Run 51:47 [2]
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Nice little cruise around the valley with Michael. It was too misty and we were too lazy to go to the tops. Legs are starting to feel nice and normal again after last weekend.

MTB 1:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Major Aiken and Huntsbury, round Mt Vernon then down Rapaki with a few detours on the way home. Wrist really not that happy after it had a fight with my pocket at the shops earlier but it didn't seem any worse riding so yeah...

Note

Working on the latest Contour Lines this morning and I came across this amusing bit from a report from the Bannockburn Rogaine that Richard English sent in:
The first teams we encountered were Graeme and Martin and Katie and Emily, the latter two of whom were chatting away as though they were out on a leisurely day’s shopping...
Hehehe! We actually got sort of told off by another team for gossiping away which amused us since we'd just climbed up 300 metres and were obviously travelling substantially faster than them too.
12 PM

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Whizzing round Bottle Lake - 2 laps even (one round the old loop and out to Spencer Park and one through those new tracks and again out to Spencer Park)! Wearing a reasonably full backpack for, umm, fun...? My wrist is sore :-(

Walk 1:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

A walk in the fresh air to keep the darkness at bay. Up through the forest to Vic Park and then down the other way. Was behind this guy at one point who, when I passed him, told me he initially thought he was being stalked until he checked behind him and saw it was me. I mustn't look very stalker-like which I guess isn't a bad thing right (but clearly I sound like one)?

MTB 40:00 [3]

On the Mary Poppins hanging on to Emily's wheel while we brought in controls. Found Matt riding round in the forest and he joined our little train too.

Road Bike (wind trainer) 45:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

20 minutes fairly steady then 20 minutes of harder stuff then a nice 5 minute warmdown followed by lots of stretching. Still a bit stiff and my legs are heavy but definitely starting to feel a lot better. Unfortunately the wrist has decided it's time for it to hurt lots again which is lovely.

Run 51:40 [2]
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Was just going to do a gentle ride on the wind trainer but Clare was keen for a cruisey run which sounded more fun. From our house up to the start of the Zig Zag then lazed in the sun for a bit before cruising back down the mtb track. Feeling pretty stiff but improving slowly.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Lazing in the sun eating delicious food then lazing in the car stopping to eat delicious food.

Rogaine race (Bannockburn Rogaine) 11:51:00 [4]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8

Racing with Emily which was good fun as we seem pretty evenly matched. We had a pretty good race helped by a Chris-approved route, good execution (most of the time!) and mostly accurately placed controls! Feeling pretty good and strong most of the time apart from a weak patch at about 6 hrs. We probably could have got another 60 points had I been paying a little bit more attention right at the end which would have taken us over 2700 but pretty happy with how we went (and hopefully we showed those guys who implied the controls we were going to were going to be too tough for us 'fragile girls' just who was boss!). I'm surprised at how well my feet held up too especially considering how much running we were doing.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Too much to do...but I did finally get my bike back from the shop again. Fingers crossed this time the brakes are all fixed!

Note
(injured)

Saw the sports doctor today and am now finally booked in to see a wrist/hand specialist in 2 or 3 months time. Despite suspecting for quite some time the bad news was coming I still feel so completely crushed. The hospital never ever told me just how bad it was and there were breaks in places I had no idea about (but things that explain a lot pain-wise). I am angry they kept saying it was looking so good now that I have actually seen the xrays up close. The next step is the specialist to see whether taking the plate out would make any difference to the movement (and if that was possibly the case whether it would actually be worth the risk which I kind of suspect it wouldn't be).

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Drowning my sorrows on too much ginger crunch...??? Plus too much to do tonight anyway.

Road Bike (wind trainer) 32:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

NightNav was cancelled after the wild storm closed the park so ended up doing lots of work and baking ginger slice. Nice little ride after all of that!

Strength and Conditioning (stretching) 15:00 [0]
(injured)

Lots of stretchy stretching.

Run 45:12 [2]

Nice little run around in the Bowenvale valley. Feeling okay apart from a bit of a sore back but surprisingly I didn't notice that running.

Road Bike 5:20:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Back home from Okains Bay (via the Basdrat) with Chris and Emily (and Michael obviously otherwise I wasn't going to get very far!). I still cannot believe that we managed to ride up the road out of Okains Bay without stopping or getting off and we weren't even very far behind the others either. There may have been some wimpering involved though...! So all was going amazingly well until somewhere along the road after Little River when Chris convinced Michael it would be okay for us to ride a small distance along the rail trail with them (against my advice I will have you know!). Yep, not too far along we got a double puncture which the boys then proceeded to attempt to patch for quite some time...without any luck. So then they tried patching the patch which seemed to hold the tyre 'okay' as long as you pumped the wheel up every now and then but it did slow the pace down and my energy had been sucked away. Anyway, everyone decided we would head up over the Basdrat to get home and somehow we made it up (actually quite well which was even more surprising). But I wimped out riding down Dyers with the tyre being so dogey and swapped with Emily who was braver than me! The tyre lasted until the village green before dying a horrible death but at least that got us most of the way home!
Epic weekend.

Road Bike 4:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice "little" ride out to Okains Bay (via the flat route out to Little River) on the tandem with Michael. We got a puncture on the way down hill to the bay which was a little terrifying but otherwise the bike behaved itself despite being laden with panniers (our packing motto ended up being 'pack light, freeze at night'...but fortunately we didn't end up freezing although I can't say we were super warm). I also had a reasonably full pack on too so I was continually amazed that we kept making it up all the hills. Very happy to make it to the campground just before dark (unlike Emily and Chris who didn't arrive until 8:30pm and, unsurprisingly, didn't really have any lights on them!).

Run 1:26:14 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

From home up Bowenvale valley and adventuring round in the tussock. Feeling a bit better this afternoon but not super.

Walk 40:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Walking into the bike shop with 2 helmets and 2 pairs of bike shoes so my pack was ridiculously full. I have come to the conclusion it must be my mighty powerful riding that destroyed the bottom bracket on the tandem. Michael clearly hasn't been pulling his weight :-P
Feeling a bit too in pain to do anything else today. Tomorrow will be better right?

MTB 1:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Riding my old Mary Poppins mtb out to Bottle Lake and because I am creative I thought I would take a route that I didn't know at all and proceeded to ride round in circles. Some parts were definitely mtbing when I decided the sign indicating the cycleway was probably closed surely couldn't be true. It got rougher and rougher and swampier and swampier...until all semblance of a track vanished entirely into the swampy water so I had to turn around and go back. I hope that finally Michael will actually believe me next time when I say I really have no idea how to get somewhere we have been many times before...
8 PM

MTB 40:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Whizzing round the forest on Mary Poppins (how on earth did I used ride this thing? No wonder I always wanted to throw it off a cliff) bringing in controls from NightNav. Who tied the controls to the trees so horribly that it was impossible for me to get them off without trying to rip branches off?

Tuesday Sep 3, 2013 #

Run 1:19:23 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 6

Cruising along the tops from the kiwi in the sunshine. Return of the stabbing stomach pain. What fun!

Walk 30:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

Up the hill to Vic Park to help out at Nora's nav course. Managed to score a lift home afterwards which was nice.
1 PM

MTB 1:45:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Cruisey little ride with Michael and Stephanie in the hills. Revisited the crash site to show Stephanie which, in hind sight, was not the best of ideas. I felt ill and dizzy just seeing it.
