2 PM

Walk 45:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Walked up Major Aiken to the bus stop but must have missed it by about 5 minutes so walked back down Huntsbury and caught the next one at the bottom of the hill somewhere.
6 PM

Road Bike (wind trainer) 45:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

5 minutes gentle, 5 minutes big gear, repeat. Someone got beheaded, someone else gave birth and Henry was a stroppy bastard as usual.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Today was a very bad day. Hit rock bottom and kept sinking. Pain so bad I couldn't get up for long periods (not arm pain...for once I almost forgot about all that). M did help me walk to the library in the evening though.

Walk 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Up our street and link to SOT then down via the my figure of 8 to try and avoid the steepest descents and so the downhill gets interrupted by some undulation. Was a successful route and such a ridiculously gorgeous morning too. Still jealous of the cyclists.
4 PM

Road Bike (wind trainer) 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the totally pimped out bike whilst watched some old Tour de France stage M has. Hot work! Cannot wait to ditch this back cast and get the new one...counting down the days.

Note
(injured)

Wandering through the gardens and eating too much delicious Indian. So exhausted today.

Road Bike (wind trainer) 25:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

The wind trainer arrived so we gave it a go. Needs a little bit of pimping out to make it comfortable for me to ride it (i.e raising the front a bit and attaching some pillows to the handlebar area so I can rest my arm down). Looking forward to riding whilst watching the Tudors. Just slightly nerdy.

Walk 1:40:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

M very nicely took me out for a walk in the sunshine after his much more exciting morning ride. From SOT up through Vic Park and to the top of the Sugar Loaf (there is a road that goes all the way to the top...how did I not know this?!) then down the Harry Ell. The down was a little tricky in places and I got tired but it was such a lovely walk.

Walk 1:15:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Same as yesterday but got carried away and went all the way up to SOT before heading down. Too much down but took that pretty slooooooow.
5 PM

Strength and Conditioning 10:00 [3]
(injured)

Feeling jealous M was out riding so burnt off some anger trying to find exercises I could comfortably and safely do. Didn't seem to be all that much at this stage.

Tuesday Apr 23, 2013 #

11 AM

Walk 50:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Hill time! Carefully up the steps off our street and along to Dyers Pass. Across to Hackthorne and down the back streets. Home along the river. Flat and up are good. Down is not fun at all.

Walk 1:00:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Along the river to PMH the long way and back the short way. Found 2 lost dogs by the river. Poor things.

PS. I put my shoes on all by myself. I can't even begin to explain how awesome that is (yes they are super uncool elastic laces but every little bit of independence I can get at the moment is worth it).
PPS. Yes, I am logging all my walks so I don't feel so depressed about being so injured.

Note
(injured)

Bought some elastic laces today. Oh yeah! Now I can wear footwear other than slippers without asking M to tie my shoe laces! Hopefully there is a break in the rain tomorrow for a bit of a walk.
I have to say, it's jolly hard to find anything big enough at the wrist to go over the cast without a fight especially with the current cast only being a back splint thing so it can't be tight across the top of the wrist.
Looking forward to seeing the surgery scar in a couple of weeks. Small thrills!
5 PM

Walk 25:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

In the rain around the block bundled up in M's big black jacket. Glasses fogged up and were so covered in water I had to take them off and walk round a bit blind. Probably not my finest idea...but what ever is? Oh yes, creating my vegan mint slice recipe, that'd be my finest idea ever. Pity it'll be weeks until I can cook/bake again without it just being me ordering M around the kitchen while I watch.

Note
(injured)

Finally, surgery tommorrow...at Burwood. It's been quite a wait but found out yesterday that I need the specialist surgeon, not just anyone, hence the wait. Pretty scared to be honest.

Monday Apr 15, 2013 #

Note
(injured)

Home overnight while still awaiting surgery.

MTB 1:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Micheal up Rapaki and Mt Vernon, along traverse and partway down through Vic Park until I decided to try my hand at flying...
...it was one hell of a walk out. Took nearly an hour and a half. Thank you to Carsten for coming up to help us out!

MTB 2:20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Over to Halswell and up C2 and Kennedy's Bush then down Flying Nun, along the traverse and down the zig zag and Bowenvale DH. Yep, despite coming off a couple of times lower down and feeling discouraged I still made it all the way up the steep, tricky section of Kennedy's. Oh yeah! The Nun was super bumpy and not very flowy at all. Add in the sun making you blind going in a certain direction (sort of about 40% of the time!) and it wasn't all that good! I almost rode off the track before managing to stop when I couldn't see anything at all. But all was made well by the awesome descent at the end.
So tired afterwards. We walked to the library afterwards and I felt like I was going to crumple on the floor while I was there! I hadn't originally intended to ride today or at least not to do a big ride but then the weather was so good and Friday's forecast was crap so yeah...it was totally worth it though!

Rogaine race (Wicked Rogaine) 1:59:43 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Starting from Hansen Park. With Clare again. I was running a bit late so planning was rather at the last minute side which ended up being fine as Clare worked out a pretty good route (while I fluffed around!!). Controls seemed way easier to find than last week despite it all being in the dark (probably helped that we had our good headlights this week). Had to cut our route a little bit shorter but got most of our plan. Was feeling speedy tonight so would have liked to go faster but it was probably a good speed considering how sick I'd felt the previous night.

Road Bike 40:00 [3]
(sick) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to Halswell and back. Feeling a bit crappy...I think my nose is having a temper tantrum or something. Perhaps it overhead my saying I wanted to cut it off or something.

Monday Apr 8, 2013 #

4 PM

Run 35:58 [3] 7.0 km (5:08 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Cruisey flat run along the river to PMH and back. See? Sometimes I can actually drag myself out along the flat...not that I like it mind you but today wasn't really that bad considering my hatred of the flat.

Note

Just be glad Nationals was last weekend...it's not exactly warm here at the moment.
12 PM

Run 1:08:29 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Up the Bowenvale valley track then down to SOK, along Thompsons and down and round a bit via various tracks in Vic Park. Felt pretty good apart from my nose. Gotta stop procrastinating and go see a doctor before I cut it off or something.
3 PM

MTB 1:12:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Same ride as yesterday but rode through everything we worked on yesterday. Was awesome. Can now do all but a couple of bits where I have to tripod. One is a ridiculously sharp, triangular corner which I think I could get round if I unclipped and used my left leg to force my bike to turn quicker. I really should give it a go but I don't like the possible situation if I fail to turn sharp enough...

Saturday Apr 6, 2013 #

MTB 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki and Mt Vernon then down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill. Worked on a couple of sections while Michael cheered me on. Was good :-)

MTB 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki and Mt Vernon then down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill. Wheeled the bike backwards a few times on the downhill to redo stuff. Rode over the big rock and the rocky section where I almost rode right off the track whilst trying to avoid a loose rock. Feeling super proud of my efforts today.

Rogaine race (Wicked Rogaine) 1:58:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Taylors Mistake. With Clare which was good because neither of us were feeling very energetic. Good times frolicking in the hills especially when it got dark and wet and cold, especially since we only had dim headlights.

Walk 1:20:00 [2]

With the parents at Taylors Mistake.

Orienteering race (NZ Champs Relay) 1:02:29 [4] 4.8 km (13:01 / km) +300m 9:55 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

Leg 1 for PAPO. Good times! First few were all okay but then got rather confused on #9. Then it was into the dark castle which was also okay...until I was trying to get out to #14 and got hopelessly confused (like everyone else around me at the time). Claire eventually worked it out and Tessa and I scrambled up after her while the boys didn't believe us and jumped into the out of bounds area (they really had no idea). All went okay after that (apart from major exhaustion) until #24. After helping a crying leg 2 runner (she couldn't find her first control...she was no where near it) I overran the control big time and got myself super confused...for several minutes. Was so relieved to finish but really glad to have switched to the first leg. So much fun! Pretty much collapsed on finishing though...
3-1 to me at the end of the weekend. Not that I'm counting or anything :-P
