Note

Booked our flights for Sprint the Bays...and now worried it's a silly idea.
7 PM

Run warm up/down (treadmill) 10:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Michael decided a trip to the gym might entertain me so we headed off to the Pioneer Fitness Centre. Started off with a warmup on the treadmill. It always makes you feel good about yourself because everyone else is going at snail pace.

Gym (weights and core) 45:00 [3]

Lots of legs and arms weights. Seemed pretty good considering we climbed yesterday. Wish I could do pull ups though. Then I'd be an awesome climber! Did some sit ups too on the scary bench. Then we both finished with a 500 metre row. Next time perhaps we'll try the dreaded 2000 metre challenge...

Run 51:26 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Run home from work via the hilly route in the hot sun. Feeling pretty good but near the end my hip felt a bit sore and I got the stitch for the first time in years. So weird. Hopefully things start to return to normal now my big deadline has passed.
7 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At The Roxx with Michael and Cris. I can't believe they managed to convince me to leave my new piano for a couple of hours!! Felt pretty weak and tired (too much sugar today and a very hot run) but did okay since we haven't been in ages.

Orienteering race (SI Champs - Long) 2:03:32 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Took it all super slow because I really didn't want to have another depressing run. Struggled a bit on #1 because it was, well, so confusing but I found it before Jenny caught up to me so that was exciting for a start!! Wasn't confident in my navigation on #2 so fluffed around a bit even though I was so close to it the first time. Then struggled on #5 because it was very mysterious. I was grumpy at that stage! Stupid mistake on #6 (the completely featureless control which was a bit scary) but then the rest of it was pretty good. I just went really slow so I didn't get lost! It was so exciting to find each control and to finally finish. It was actually quite fun but I wish I could feel confident enough to actually go faster. SO SO SO hot though and my last water stop was at #10 which sucked because that was just over halfway through!!!

Orienteering race (SI Champs - Middle) 55:25 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Not in a good frame of mind right from the start and couldn't find the first control for, ummm, a ridiculously embarrassing amount of time. Then once I found it I basically proceeded to beat myself up for the rest of the course so no wonder I took so long on the rest of it. I'm not very nice to myself when I make mistakes and then it influences everything I do after that.

Michael and I went for a walk out round the first control afterwards to see what went wrong. I kind of wished I'd done what Tane did and just went and run the course again afterwards. Might have helped. Then once we were home I played lots of catching features and had a good time!

Walk 45:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Up to SOT and back down. Probably a bit far as I felt shattered and almost just sat down on the side of the road for a rest. It's been a ridiculously long week. Can't wait for this to be over.

Walk 35:00 [3]

Short walk round the block. Feeling super tired.

Rogaine race (Halswell Quarry) 2:53:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

I was so tired so wasn't sure if I was going to go but Clare was keen and I thought why not see if I could still function! Plus it was an excuse to leave work at a normal time for once. My brain was completely fried so Clare did most of the nav for at least the first half while I just ran to get the controls like an excited puppy. Managed to find some tiny fragment of brain to do some nav in the second half. Physically I felt great and my legs are feeling really good and strong on the hills at the moment which is awesome. I like running up things! So incredibly tired to the point of feeling nauseous afterwards though. I can't wait until 4.30pm on Monday when I can finally sleep!

Run 49:27 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Was at work till really late last night and it was going to be more of the same tonight so I got up early. Wasn't too hard since I'd already woken up before the alarm went off and I didn't feel too bad. It was beautiful and calm outside. Along the river and up then down the back of the hospital, up the steps of DOOM and then home. Feeling quite strong and bet my last time by over 2 minutes without any real effort. Nice.

Run 1:27:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Nice little run with Clare from SOK to the Bellbird, through the bush and then back again. Sat on a rock looking down the valley and solved all the world's problems. Clare is awesome.

Road Bike 2:30:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Cruising around with the "girls". There was a bit of a hill sprint competition on the way out which left my legs feeling wobbly for a while but we were all far too full from lunch to put in much effort on the way home.

Friday Nov 18, 2011 #

6 PM

Walk 25:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Up to the top of our street and back with Michael. It's been a long week!

6 PM

Run long 2:02:59 [3] 18.43 km (6:40 / km) +745m 5:33 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

From home up Worsleys (passing 8 mtbers on my way which was good motivation to keep going) then along the Crater Rim to SOK then along my favourite tracks to the top of Huntsbury and back down to home again. It was awesome until the big downhill which was just tough. I always (chose) to forget how long it takes to get down the hill and how exhausting it is so I was pretty dead by the time I got home but there was the lovely smell of dinner wafting out the front door and a lovely big hug waiting for me at home :)

Road Bike 53:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

I had planned to go mtbing before work but it was pouring with rain when I woke up at 5am. Had to grumpily change my plans! Rode from work up to SOK (via Victoria Park) and down to home again. Actually felt pretty strong on the hill despite the lack of real road riding lately. Perhaps it's those monster hills you have to ride up to go mtbing. Some really stupid cars on the way down though which made me grumpy.

Run 52:20 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Home from work via the hill route for the second half. Feeling rather shattered. It's been a long few days I think.

12 PM

Run 54:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

SO hot. With Michael along the river then browsing at some sections of land and houses (dreaming) then home again. Beautiful weather but I wish I was orienteering. Played some more catching features at some point to try and make up for it.

Saturday Nov 12, 2011 #

7 PM

Walk 52:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Played catching features to try and make up for not being able to go to the orienteering. Did make it out for a decent walk in the evening though.

7 PM

Walk 40:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Getting some fresh air after a super long day at work. We wandered around the hill suburbs above us looking at the houses.

Wednesday Nov 9, 2011 #

8 PM

Run 1:06:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Miserable run at Bottle Lake with Michael. Pouring with rain, windy and freezing cold plus I felt miserable, tired and hungry before we even started. Poor Michael was probably about ready to ship me back to Auckland by the time we got back to the car.

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Clare came and rescued me from feeling miserable and we went for a ride up Rapaki (passed 6 people on the way up!! That's the best thing about going up this way because all the plebs do as well), along the Summit Road track and down the old coach road. Only 1 section I didn't ride up the top which was an awesome.

Monday Nov 7, 2011 #

6 PM

Run 49:11 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Along the river, up and down a bit including the steps of DOOM and then home. Got round without stopping at all...feeling a bit stronger on the hills these days. Yay!

11 AM

MTB 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Finally! Passed on Greig and Clare's road ride in favour of mtbing because let's be honest, mtbing is way more fun (even when it's miserable!). Michael's road bike was a bit broken so he couldn't go either which meant he decided to tail after me. Up Huntsbury and along the summit road track with a bit of other stuff. Good times and ridiculously hot. Can't wait to get back up there.

Saturday Nov 5, 2011 #

6 PM

Run 1:32:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

After spending far too much of the day shopping I was pretty desperate to do something outside and managed to convince Michael a run up the hill would be fun. Cruised up Kennedy's Bush to Summit Road and back down (via the mtb tracks on the way home). When I say cruised...well. Getting this whole epicly long hill thing sussed now and don't need to stop at all.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

The Roxx with Michael. Pretty good session but my arms are starting to do that swelling thing again. Hmmm...

MTB 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

So I finally got some courage to head up the hill and go mountain biking by myself. Of course, it had to be the most ridiculously windy day ever. I biked up the road (Major Aitken Drive and Huntsbury) but it wasn't until I got on the track up Huntsbury that the wind started to hit me. It got worse and worse and by the top it was ridiculous and had caused me to skid off a couple of times. Tried to bike along the Summit Rd track for about 20 metres before deciding it was ridiculous and scary so I came back down…which felt hard enough with the stupid wind. Poor Michael had to put up with a very grumpy Katie when I got home!

Run 1:12:18 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday night run with Tane. Up Farm Track and Mt Vernon then around and back down Huntsbury. Legs feeling heavy but I am getting better at running up the hill without stopping. Poor Tane had to listen to me drone on and on. I even annoyed myself with my talking!
