Note

Taking a break from attackpoint, logging stuff, using a watch, training, racing, all things like that until I feel like I can stand again. It was so nice last night to just run because I wanted to. I have no idea how long I was out. I didn't care how far or fast I went. I just ran. Every day needs to be like that (just preferably without the freezing cold southerly rain).

6 PM

Run 29:04 [3] 5.11 km (5:41 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Little run by myself in the dark along the river (they'd finally resealed that bit of road past Fisher Ave only to have it crack again) then up Huntsbury Spur and back down to home again. You don't realise just how high up you get until you're coming down and the city looks so small below. Cruisey to start with, dying on the hill, then fast on the flat to home.

Run 1:07:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

To Tane's house with Riki then Wednesday night run with Tane, Riki and Andy. Not sure what happened to everyone else. Cruisey run up in the wind and mist from the end of the Huntsbury Spur road to the top of Mt Vernon and back down again. Route is here.

Orienteering Training 1:02:37 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Blundering round Bottle Lake in the dark. I did, well, sort of okay for the first 3 little courses but when I tried to do the whole thing backwards I got hopelessly lost trying to get to the second control that I thought I might never make it out (no seriously). Thanks Georgia. It was fun (apart from that getting lost bit) :)

Walk 40:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4

I can still walk!! Feet much better today thankfully but still quite achey.

Rogaine race (Heights of Winter) 11:51:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

With Clare. Felt pretty good and fit but my feet didn't. In fact they started hating me after a couple of hours and progressively got worse. We were stuck in an annoyingly large group for the first few hours so it was a relief to venture off on our own adventure (somewhere just before the waterstop before #82). We then proceeded to have far too much fun (well, as much fun as you can have with sore feet) gossiping and frolicking in the sun for a few hours until we got back into the grove again. Missed out a couple of controls we had planned on because the climb didn't seem worth it. Then not long after it got dark my feet got unbearable and I was really struggling. Somehow managed to pick up speed to what was quite probably our fastest speed of the day for the last hour and a half when Clare told me she reckoned we'd be super late. Good way to distract yourself from the pain!

Strength and Conditioning 15:00 [3]

In front of the fire before loading up on dessert before the weekend. These things are important.

6 PM

Run 1:10:43 [3] 11.16 km (6:20 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

The late version of the Wednesday night run with Tane and Tim since we turned up just after the others must have left. Michael dropped us at the Takahe and we went up the Harry Ell then back down through Victoria Park or something. Then down some other track that joined on to a super steep road. Then along the river to Stephanie's where I left the boys and continued on home to dinner and a warm fire :)
Route is here

Note

I need a third pair of gloves...hands were totally frozen and in pain by the time I'd biked to work this morning.
6 PM

Run 40:49 [2] 7.0 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Nice little jaunt around the river and past the house (with a nice steep little climb thrown in for good measure). Cold. Poor Michael gets dragged out at my slow pace which was probably even slower than usual since I felt exhausted after so little (and broken) sleep last night.

Note
(rest day)

Had planned on doing some strength work in the evening but plans were a teeny bit disrupted and instead I drunk too much alcohol (the boss got out his good wine), ate too many lollies (also courtesy of the boss) and too many cookies (once I finally got home) and generally lazed about.

Since there was no power at work that meant the gate was locked so we had to clamber over a fence to get out and we had to hoist the bike over as well which was entertaining. Got a bit lost on the way home since heaps of my usual ways seemed to be closed. Could have done with the mountain bike today! But at least I wasn't stuck in traffic like everyone elseā€¦

The neighbour told me he calls Viv's place Olympic City.

Orienteering race (OY3? - Waikari) 58:33 [4] 5.5 km (10:39 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

This was just plain brutal and unpleasant. 10 contours (5m intervals) to #1 then down most of them and back up another 11 or 12 to #2 then something remarkably similar to #3 then back up a few more to #4 which was hidden (as was #5 and #6 but I was more lucky with those ones). Jenny got ahead on that damn control otherwise I would have won! Should have been a good 3 minutes faster easily because I came down right on top of the control but it was hidden amongst some green stuff as well as rock. Oh well, it was pretty easy but the map (and the course setting) was cruel. I was reduced to far too much walking (or what felt like crawling at the time!).
12 PM

Orienteering race (OY3? - Waikari) 29:06 [4] 3.7 km (7:52 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

You know, because I wasn't already dead enough! Anyway, thought I'd go and blast round the orange course afterwards which was quite fun. Tried to run the whole way but blew up on the hill (bad route choice too) to #9. Annihilated the competition...pity my results don't count!

Saturday Jun 11, 2011 #

4 PM

Run 47:40 [3] 7.33 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

After exhausting ourselves shopping (and doing some strength training carrying heavy boxes of dinner sets back to the car) we went for a nice little jaunt at Halswell Quarry. Up the hill (including a little explore through some gully in the bush) to the gate just before it gets really steep and relentless and then back again. Can't go killing the legs before tomorrow...but feeling quite good on the hill.
Route is here.

Note

Survived 4 days of work in a row...and biking every day too! Gosh I'm awesome. It's weird queuing up at the lights with 8 other bikes though...and like a race once it turns green!
6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At the Roxx with Michael. Bad anxiety tonight but I got up that yellow 20 Michael has been obsessed about and the odd other good climbs. Just feel so weak and have bouts of being terrified which is pretty unusual climbing these days.

Orienteering Training 50:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Bumbling through Bottle Lake with Michael in the dark. Quite amusing. We attempted what we could of an old course (there is a fenced off red zone in the middle somewhere) and got told off by some lady for running on the road.

Run 1:16:31 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday Night Run from Tane's place with my new headlight. Pretty small bunch tonight (just Tane, Andy, Steve and I). Pretty easy run tonight along the river then up some track (Farm Track?), across the valley and, down Huntsbury Spur via the steep bush track then back along the river...I think. Lost the track a few times especially getting back up to the spur and struggling on the narrow tracks in the dark until I discovered I had knocked the dimmer on my light when I'd put it on which was why it wasn't very bright. Jeepers, I'm not terribly smart sometimes. Feeling good tonight so kind of would have liked to have had a bit more or something.

Tuesday Jun 7, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling a bit tired. We did bike out from my work to get my headlight in the evening which was a bit further than I really felt like riding since I hadn't taken enough food. But now I have a cool new light. Yay! And then we walked around for a lifetime at the supermarket buying everything in sight.

Note

Gosh I'm good! I biked to work yesterday AND today. Oh the dedication! Today I even had a container of homemade shortbread cookies in my bag in the morning. I think it's about 20 minutes or perhaps a little bit more each way and I get to ride through Hagley Park. Won't be quite such a nice ride when we move to a real office though :(
6 PM

Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

Nice cruisey run along the river and about with Michael. It was warmer than anticipated outside. Running incredibly unco tonight though and felt uber unfit or something.

Thursday Jun 2, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

SO tired. Gosh it's hard to get back into this whole working thing.

Wednesday Jun 1, 2011 #

Run 1:44:08 [3] 14.8 km (7:02 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday Night Run from the Takahe. Lost the others somewhere around the side of Mt Vernon so Michael, Greig and I just continued with what we thought was the original plan. Awesome run though. But I really need that new headlight asap. GPS track here
