Walk 45:00 [2]

It was Dad's 60th birthday party in the evening and if I had to be stuck in the kitchen for another hour I was going to explode so I had to venture out into the cold to get some fresh air!

Friday Jun 29, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:13 [5] 2.0 km (4:37 / km)

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 50:00 [3]

Feeling a bit more relaxed at the new gym. The new programme seems to be helping open up my shoulders a bit more too.

Thursday Jun 28, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 24:07 [3] 5.0 km (4:49 / km)

Decided to set it on level 7 so my arms didn't fall off! Probably a good call.

Gym - Cardio 38:00 [3]

Boring but I thought I ought to protect my knee and foot at present so I'm all good on Sunday.

Wednesday Jun 27, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:07 [5] 2.0 km (4:34 / km)

That's my 2nd best time I think but looking at the average speed to beat the 9 minute mark is rather daunting.

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 55:00 [3]

A good workout today.

Gym - Cardio 16:00 [3]

Ice Skating 2:00:00 [4]

Learning the Mohawk 2-foot turn. Very confusing concept and so far I end up going the wrong direction when I change feet (but it sorta works when I'm at the wall trying it out!).

Had to hand my skates in for sharpening afterwards...I always feel anxious about handing them over to someone else...they're like my babies!!

Tuesday Jun 26, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

So cold and I felt like sleeping in since I didn't have to be at work as early as usual (stayed in bed and read a book instead!).

Monday Jun 25, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:13 [4] 2.0 km (4:37 / km)

Pace setting against the guy on the machine next to me...that was good 'cause it meant I didn't slow down even more!

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 1:00:00 [3]

My right knee was giving me a little bit of grief in the lunges but other than that...

Sunday Jun 24, 2007 #

Run long 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

To the top of One Tree Hill and back. Running up Portland Road is a shockingly cruel way to start a run!

Saturday Jun 23, 2007 #

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 1:00:00 [4]

A good workout especially with the sun streaming in through the windows in the stretching area.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

SOOO nice. Really needed that today.

Friday Jun 22, 2007 #

Run 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Managed to get out between showers in the afternoon but some of the tracks in the Domain were pretty sloshy. Then I got my "what's down there?" curiosity on the way back when I passed the Newmarket park. Was disappointed since it doesn't really go anywhere other than up to Broadway. Running down Shera Road was NOT fun (it feels vertical and like it's killing your joints) so I'll remember that next time!

Thursday Jun 21, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:11 [4] 2.0 km (4:36 / km)

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 1:10:00 [3]

All good this morning (I love mornings). The new programme is hard work but feels good.

Wednesday Jun 20, 2007 #

Run 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

Nice and cruisy. Up Ayr Street is always a good warmup. Didn't feel so cold this morning either.

Ice Skating 2:00:00 [4]

An awesome session today...I didn't want to get off. I wore 3 layers today so there was no chance of getting cold and feeling miserable! Really worked my knees to exhaustion tonight with those damn cross overs but they look really good now (the cross overs, not the knees!).

Tuesday Jun 19, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:10 [4] 2.0 km (4:35 / km)

I was beating the guy rowing next to me which is always good (although I get fiercely competitive if someone starts to go faster than me!) especially since I had my machine on a higher setting.

Gym (Weights and stretches) 55:00 [3]

The new programme is deceptively physical but much more varied and interesting than my last one. It was a good morning.

Gym - Cardio (Bike) 16:00 [3]

Because I had extra steam to vent.

Monday Jun 18, 2007 #

Run 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2120

It was freezing when I got up so I wore gloves and a warmer top...I got too hot. Go figure.

Sunday Jun 17, 2007 #

Orienteering (OY1 - Spaghetti Soup) 1:56:37 [3] *****
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

That has to be the worst I have ever orienteered! So yeah, it was pretty hard but I just generally sucked today. Oh well, at least there's lots of room for improvement!

Saturday Jun 16, 2007 #

Walk (To and from the gym) 1:30:00 [1]

On my way back I walked through the Domain. Ah, I love sunny days even if it's not exactly warm. The only problem was getting lost in the maze of streets leading back to the flat when I thought I'd be smart and take a detour! So much for being an orienteer when I didn't have a map!

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Thought I'd give yoga a go since I've always wanted to try it. I am SO not flexible but those stretches felt so good.

Gym (Weights) 45:00 [2]

We just went over my new programme. Using a whole lot more free weights and swiss ball stuff so my left arm (the bad one) can't just sit back while the right one does all the work.

Thursday Jun 14, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:20 [4] 2.0 km (4:40 / km)

Not my best time but it was very steady the whole way through.

Gym - Cardio 40:00 [3]

As per yesterday, keeping the legs ticking over. Still feeling pretty tired.

Note

I had a fitness assessment at the new gym this morning...apparently am very fit but his description of it made me laugh. All too technical for me.

Wednesday Jun 13, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:12 [4] 2.0 km (4:36 / km)

Nothing out of the ordinary.

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 35:00 [2]

The first day at the new gym. Took me a while to work out where things were since a lot of the stuff looked different. It's all good.

Gym - Cardio 18:00 [3]

Just cruising really and keeping the legs ticking over.

Ice Skating 1:30:00 [3]

I was definately not in the groove tonight. Balance and all that jazz was fine but the cold went right through me and my right knee was torturous so I didn't stay as long after class.

Tuesday Jun 12, 2007 #

Note
(rest day)

I nearly fell asleep at my desk yesterday and my eyes kept glazing over so I slept in this morning. All good. Plus the weather is lousy anyway.

Monday Jun 11, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 24:12 [5] 5.0 km (4:50 / km)

Definately not one of my better times and I felt like I was struggling quite a bit. I think I'm just getting really tired. Need a day off.

Gym - Cardio 10:00 [4]

I intended to do more cardio today but I felt shattered after the row so decided to be kinder on myself and cut the bike short.

Gym (Weights and Stretches) 30:00 [3]

Feeling generally tired and low. Just did some gentle weights and stretches to finish up the morning. Need to take things easy.

Sunday Jun 10, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Auckland Relays) 38:33 [5] **** 4.4 km (8:46 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

A good course and I orienteered pretty well. Got a bit thrown by people following me then realising they'd come to the wrong control (but it was mine). Gotta have a bit more self confidence. A good steady speed throughout.

Saturday Jun 9, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:11 [5] 2.0 km (4:36 / km)

I was flagging in the second half until my 400m finish. Today is not my day.

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [3]

Feeling like crap today. The gym is a very poor substitute for running (or anything for that matter really)! Besides, this whole lack of sleep thing is catching up on me now.

Friday Jun 8, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:12 [5] 2.0 km (4:36 / km)

I attempted to go as hard as possible but that 9 minute record still holds...how the hell did I do that?! Not so good going hard when you only recently had breakfast though!

Gym (Weights) 1:00:00 [4]

I think my left arm might actually be getting much closer to be being evenly matched with the right arm again which is good. My legs are better matched than they used to be too.

Thursday Jun 7, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 23:34 [5] 5.0 km (4:43 / km)

The first half always seems the hardest mentally. In the last 1000m I was feeling a little shady but picked up speed for the final 500m. Definately feels like a whole body workout by the end!

Gym - Cardio 42:00 [3]

Feeling pretty good this morning despite the ridiculously early start.

Wednesday Jun 6, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:19 [5] 2.0 km (4:40 / km)

Feeling a bit stiff and tired still this morning.

Gym (Weights) 1:05:00 [3]

My arms felt kinda dead but the leg weights are definately improving which is cool. Would much rather have been outside though.

Ice Skating 1:50:00 [4]

My knees were absolutely shot by the end of class but it was worth it 'cause my cross overs are getting real good now. I'm also picking up a lot more speed with a growth in confidence. Ah I love being on the ice (but the cold sucks).

Tuesday Jun 5, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:12 [5] 2.0 km (4:36 / km)

Where any of my energy for this came from I have no idea but I felt pretty shattered afterwards (and it was only 9 minutes of pain!).

Gym (Weights) 50:00 [3]

My last physio appointment. Wasn't too bad considering how sore and tired I felt.

Monday Jun 4, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Queen's B'day Score Event) 59:00 [4] ***
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

I'd be lucky if I was feeling even 50% today (but that's a hell of a lot better than I was yesterday!). Got 48 points and felt pretty crap by the end but it was fun, especially blundering through dark green for a control. Considering how I was feeling it was pretty good going.

Note

I think it might be another rest week from running for the foot after bashing it through the weekend but it lasted surprisingly well.

Sunday Jun 3, 2007 #

Orienteering race (Queen's B'day Rogaine) 4:00:00 [4] **
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

A great race. Could definately have pushed harder and run more but I let Craig do the pace setting since he seemed a bit slower. Afterwards though I got the usual sick feeling only about 10 times worse and was in bed as soon as I got home as pale as a ghost. No matter how much I drink I can't seem to get rid of the feeling of being dehydrated. Attempted to eat but that didn't do anything either. Something is possibly screwed up. One problem I noted was that I have a lot of trouble burping so all this pressure builds up in my chest and can take hours (like today) before I either manage to burp or vomit.

Saturday Jun 2, 2007 #

Putting out/bringing in controls 45:00 [2] ***
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

I thought I was just putting up tents but hey, suddenly I'm out putting the Sport ID boxes and control flags out. Slightly stressful! But it was all quite fun. Unfortunately Selwyn told me that none of the controls I was putting out would be ones on my course so there went the plan of having an advantage!!

Orienteering race (Queen's B'day Loop Race) 1:03:42 [4] **** 5.42 km (11:45 / km)
shoes: Jalas Black FLX

I struggled on a couple of the early sand dune controls...both technically and just falling over my feet (or down holes that appeared out of no where!). Shoes were good though (gotta watch the ankles though). Would have definately been a bit slower out there in the old trail shoes. But I jarred my ankles a couple of times and my left foot started to hurt a bit. Iced it up when I got back so hopefully it's okay for tomorrow's mamoth experience (which I'm kind of freaked about - never done a rogaine before!).

Friday Jun 1, 2007 #

Rowing Machine 9:27 [4] 2.0 km (4:44 / km)

I swear that on one of the rowing machines there's less resistance or something (I'm sure it feels lighter) so much harder to get good strokes...or am I just making excuses?!

Gym (Weights) 1:15:00 [3]

A good session today. Lots of nice stretches. I was enjoying myself until I looked at the time and realised I was running late for the rest of the day's plan!

Note

My new O shoes finally arrived today. So exciting! Can't wait to test them out tomorrow.
