6 PM

Run 1:08:17 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

Wednesday night run from Bowenvale. Feeling so tired today (I almost fell asleep at work earlier) but my legs seemed to sort of respond okay. Tim led the way up heaps of horrible steep tracks in Vic Park though which was cruel and nasty of him! Then had to run home with at least I had company most of the way so it wasn't too horrible.

Strength and Conditioning 5:00 [3]

6 PM

MTB 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki, over the Mt Vernon track, traverse then down through Vic Park and down Dyers to home. I rode everything on the Vic Park track (except the rock garden)...it was so exciting!! So then we went back up to the top and did it again in one go. Definitely feeling like my Flying Nun goal will be achievable now.

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At the Roxx with Michael. Feeling quite ill to start with but it did eventually improve. Climbing okay after that. Did a couple of good pull ups afterwards too.

MTB 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael and Emily up Rapaki, along the Mt Vernon track, traverse track, down through Vic Park then up the road to SOK and down old Dyers then down the road to home. Awesome. Made it over a few more of the rocky sections following Emily's line and also another corner in the Vic Park track and whizzed down old Dyers. Emily is awesome to ride with (Michael is too so it was perfect!!). Can't wait to ride again!
6 PM

Walk 9:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

From home walking up the stairs in the new shoes.

Run 28:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Cabrakan 3

From the top of the stairs along the flatter roads to the track down behind the hospital then along the river the long way home. Nice and gentle testing out the new shoes. They seem pretty comfy and fairly padded so hopefully my feet enjoy them next weekend. Will wear them as much as possible this coming week to, well, wear them in.

Road Bike 2:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

With Michael up Hackthorne Road, along the tops and down the Basdrat to Gebbies Pass then along to Governor's Bay, up the hill to SOK again then back down to home. Those "little" hills after Gebbies are bloody awful! Then I thought I was going to die on the way up the last hill but somehow I pulled out a good amount of suffering in a high gear. Michael thought I was crazy (I was, I admit it).

Strength and Conditioning 5:00 [3]

Just a little session after work.
6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At the Roxx with Michael and Emily. Good session and now I am totally exhausted. Managed to improve the state of my pull ups afterwards which was quite exciting. Got about halfway on one of them! The tips of my fingers feel like they got scraped off on the wall though.

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki in the blazing heat then started the Mt Vernon track but got halfway along battling the wind until I'd had enough so we rode round the road. Attempted to start the traverse track but the wind blew me into the tussocks and I wasn't impressed so we battled more wind along Summit Road (it was pretty desperate to blow me in the the carpark before the Sugar Loaf - I was weaving all over the road!). Then down through Vic Park where I was awesome and mastered the 3 corners...twice. Getting there slowly. Then hooning down the usual way to home. I wish the wind wasn't so ridiculous but I'm glad we didn't battle along the traverse track because I think I would have been feeling a bit too tired and frustrated to work on what we did in Vic Park.

Run 1:00:40 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday night run up Rapaki to the top of Mt Vernon then back down Farm Track. Another big turnout tonight. Yay! Feeling pretty stiff, SO overtired and my back started making me feel quite nauseous not long into the run. I just kept a fairly slow steady pace and it seemed to work out okay. Coming down again was not so fun. Died riding home again though whilst trying to keep up with Steve and Rob. I really need sleep. So almost collapsed by the time I got home. That was entertaining!

Strength and Conditioning 30:00 [3]
(injured)

Got into it straight after work (although couldn't do several things like planks etc since my back was not happy at some of these ideas) then headed off to hang out with the girls :)

Monday Feb 20, 2012 #

Note
(injured)

Couldn't get out of bed this morning without Michael helping me. This sucks. I hope it goes away soon as mysteriously as it arrived!
6 PM

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

We thought we'd see how I'd survive on a bike. Better than on foot as it turns out. Cruised up Rapaki, avoided any more strenuous hills and biked round the road to the traverse track then down through Vic Park and on to Dyers Pass and home. Nothing flash. The back thingy seemed okay but is a little bit sore again now.

Sunday Feb 19, 2012 #

Note
(injured)

I was going to go for a bike ride after we dropped my parents at the airport but somehow on route from the airport to home I did something to my back and could barely walk or sit down or do anything once I got out of the car so that wasn't going to happen! After a an hour or so we gently walked to the park and around a couple of times and it did seem to feel a tiny bit better but still not good enough to sit on the couch ('cause I can't get up). Weird but it seems to slowly be improving as the night progresses.
12 PM

Walk 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 6

With Mum up Major Aiken Drive then down some other roads and tracks to home.

9 AM

Run hills 1:34:35 [3] 14.0 km (6:45 / km) +605m 5:33 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

From home up Farm Track to the top of Mt Vernon, over my favourite bush tracks, down Latters Spur Track to home. Feeling quite sluggish and the scone I ate before I left wasn't so good. I haven't run before breakfast in ages! But it was a beautiful, ridiculously hot morning and I loved it! Wished I could have gone further but had to get home to the parents.
1 PM

Walk 1:30:00 [1]

With the parents to the Bellbird. SO hot.

Strength and Conditioning 5:00 [3]

Thursday Feb 16, 2012 #

6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At The Roxx with Emily, Michael and Tim. I climbed with Emily until she had to go home then with the others. Climbed okay. Thought I was going to feel a lot weaker than I did so was pretty happy. Gotta work on those overhangs though.

Wednesday Feb 15, 2012 #

6 PM

Run 55:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Wednesday night run from SOT. Big group tonight. Yay! I hadn't run since last Wednesday to rest my foot and it felt fine out tonight. Yay! I felt like I could have run heaps longer (it was a pretty easy, short run tonight) but it was probably good we didn't. Yay for feeling strong. Must be all the anxiety in me getting expelled out in the form of energy.

Tuesday Feb 14, 2012 #

Note

Neither Michael or I were feeling that great (I had really bad stomach pains) and it had been a rather wet and cold day so we went for a gentle walk and played in the playground. Did some dead hangs too.

Strength and Conditioning 7:00 [3]

6 PM

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Farm Track, along the traverse track, down through Vic Park then down Dyers to home. Umm yeah, the bottom of Farm Track was much harder riding than we anticipated so there was a bit of pushing happening. It was full of narrow rutted bits on the steepest sections! Then when you came off you couldn't get started again (we both nearly rode right off the track trying to get back on!). Then a bit of suffering to get to the top. Not my night tonight as I struggled on various bits later on but at least we got out there 'cause it was cold and the perfect night for diving under the blanket instead!

Sunday Feb 12, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Walking along the track by the coast at Governers Bay with the parents and Michael after eating lots of delicious lunch. Then Michael went for a mtb ride while I stayed home with the parents feeling very jealous! I guess it's only fair though. My right foot is a bit sore at the moment. A bit frustrating in that the parents want to walk around everywhere when I'd like to be resting it or riding.

Saturday Feb 11, 2012 #

9 AM

MTB 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki, along the traverse track then down through Vic Park, Dyers Pass and home. We were out for longer but some of it was looking at different tracks and assessing how to get down them. I'm getting there. Michael is pretty cool to ride with as he gets really encouraging and supportive and I don't feel like I'm a useless rider when I go with him. It was drizzly and cold but still fun.
3 PM

Note

A couple of hours of walking up the hill then back down with the parents after lunch. So exhausted by the end.

Friday Feb 10, 2012 #

5 PM

Road Bike 57:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

From work up to SOK (via Hackthorne Rd) and home again. Feeling much better today. Then we had to clean the house for the parents and eat copious amounts of chocolate pudding to improve the mood. Raspberries are a good addition.

Thursday Feb 9, 2012 #

6 PM

Climbing (indoor - TR) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Five Ten Anasazi Verde

At The Roxx with Michael. Feeling quite drained and frustrated today. Then at the top of the third climb I knocked the back side of my hand really hard and it hurt for the rest of the night. But overall it wasn't too bad. I just need to stop getting so grumpy!

Wednesday Feb 8, 2012 #

6 PM

Walk 14:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

Walked from home up Holliss Ave and the linking track to Longhurst Rd so I didn't have to run the really steep stuff but could still run up the hill. Michael's idea and it was a good one.

Run 1:01:38 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

From the bottom of Longhurst Drive along (up) Latters Spur Track to Cedrics Track then down that and along the Harry Ell, then back on the roads down Longhurst and Holliss Ave to home. Feeling better than expected plus the bonus of discovering extensions of tracks I didn't know about. I love hills. Running down the Harry Ell was painful though. Started to feel weary about a quarter of the way down!

Tuesday Feb 7, 2012 #

5 PM

Road Bike 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

From work out to Halswell Quarry and back home again. Stupidly I thought I'd go up the hill to the top of the quarry. Hit the wall really bad not very far up and was in granny gear the rest of the way and not really doing so well. Getting home again was quite the struggle! Oh well, at least the legs are still moving after the weekend. I am so tired though.

Run warm up/down 20:00 [2]

10 AM

Orienteering race 30:03 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Was having a pretty good race until I did a 180 coming out of #10 and it took me several minutes to work out what I'd done and where on earth I was. Then proceeded to stuff up #14 as well. Okay, I actually took a good route but I didn't realise that was the route I'd taken (thought I'd taken the other track) so I ran right past the control and all the way to #15. Didn't work that out very quickly either. Sigh. So frustrated as I would have had a pretty good time. I was almost as grumpy as Tane afterwards!
3 PM

Orienteering race 19:44 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

The first loop was pretty good. Managed to keep good contact with the map. The second loop, not so much. First control was okay but then had 2 or 3 really bad ones where I was completely disoriented. Ran round like a headless chicken. After #20 it improved though and I ended up with a little chain of people following me around the buildings…but I outran them. Pity they had started after me!

Run warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

10 AM

Orienteering race 21:26 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Too much dithering and getting stuck by the impassable fences. It's hard to read the gaps and where you can and can't cross when you're trying to run fast! But it was okay.
5 PM

Orienteering race 20:25 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Pretty good run apart from a big stuff up on #5 and then getting confused on #21 I couldn't see it from the other side and then there was a car parked in front of it so I was convinced I was in the wrong place. Cool course on a pretty cool map. I like the map flip idea as you can use the good bits of the map without it turning into a scribble on the map itself.

Saturday Feb 4, 2012 #

Run warm up/down 20:00 [2]

11 AM

Orienteering race 19:52 [4]
shoes: Inov-8 Roclite-285

Mass start race. Clearly I left my brain at home (as well as my legs). It was all okay until I thought I had missed a control near the end so I stopped (and had about 3 people crash into me from behind). Couldn't work out what I'd done so after a good 30 seconds of dithering I decided to just finish and have a mispunch. Turns out I didn't miss the control after all although I have no memory of ever being there even when I wandered up afterwards! Must have been in the "zone". Pity I snapped out of it just before the finish then!
6 PM

Orienteering race 20:01 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Okay apart from where I made one really silly mistake on the way to #12 where I turned down one road too early and then found myself hopelessly disoriented. It was so confusing. I must have stood around for at least a minute! I didn't really enjoy this course to be honest as it was just so much concrete running and dodging cars in the grey concrete jungle.

Friday Feb 3, 2012 #

Note

I don't think I did anything today (other than the usual bike to work and walk around the park at lunch – I worked out that I must bike at least 3 hours to and from work every week and walk for about an hour and a half and yet I've never considered that as exercise) but I can't actually remember! I do remember staying up far too late and eating far too much though…

Thursday Feb 2, 2012 #

6 PM

MTB 1:20:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael and David up Rapaki, along the Traverse track, partway down Vic Park then down Dyers to home again. Taking it fairly easy because of the weekend and the rather large lack of sleep I've had this week. The newsletter is done now though!

Wednesday Feb 1, 2012 #

6 PM

Run hills 1:13:56 [3] 11.8 km (6:16 / km) +445m 5:16 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 5

The street-o started a bit too late for me (too much to do on the magazine tonight) so I went for my own run. From home up Farm Track to the top of Mt Vernon then down Huntsbury and Major Aiken. Over 3 minutes faster than last time despite quite a bit of a headwind up the hill. About 29 minutes from the base of the hill to the top of Mt Vernon. Getting good at these long climbs. Pretty exhausted afterwards though.
