5 PM

Road Bike 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Shimano WM64

After work with M on the tandem out to Summer and up Evans to nearly the top of Mt Pleasant then back down the same way and home. A few intervals on the way. Good times.

Sunday Feb 26, 2017 #

10 AM

Run 2:02:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

With M's workmate Chris up Barnett Park, down to Evans Pass on the man track and back up to Mt Pleasant on crater eim then down through the reserve with the shrine to the teddy bears although there was a detour before that where I got us lost! Feeling good which probably wasn't so good for Chris who was struggling on the relentless climbs.

MTB 4:10:00 [3]
shoes: Shimano WM64

Fun in the sun with M on the Hogsback and Dracophyllum to the road and back. I so have lost my bike handling skills.

Friday Feb 24, 2017 #

6 AM

Run intervals 56:04 [3]
shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

3 hill intervals up various bits of Huntsbury. Was going well until I tripped on a step on the third one and went crashing into the concrete!
6 PM

Road Bike 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Shimano WM64

After work cruise with M on the tandem out to Redcliffs and round about. Feeling tired and under the weather.

Wednesday Feb 22, 2017 #

6 PM

Run 1:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

Cruisey run from Lyttelton round the mtb tracks and grovelling up the hill then round the bluffs and down. Thighs feeling rather smashed from yesterday though which made the steep hills exhausting! So hot...so much for a southerly coming through.

Tuesday Feb 21, 2017 #

6 PM

Road Bike 1:35:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Up Mt Pleasant and down to Sumner then a bit of a TT home. Good times and a really nice night for riding. Only my second ride by myself with the new bike. Was a bit nervous to be honest but obviously it was fine despite making a wrong turn on my way up the hill.

Monday Feb 20, 2017 #

Road Bike 1:50:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Nice damp ride in the dark clouds with M out to Sumner, up Evans Pass and down Mt Pleasant...very slowly as it was very wet and I'm a pansy who wants to stay in one piece!! Actually quite nice once we got into the cloud (except for the brief detour to the top of the hill where it was awful and we got soaked) but a bit yuck on the ride out. Wish I had M's power as he rode up and down doing intervals while I struggled to just go up.

Sunday Feb 19, 2017 #

1 PM

Road Bike 1:45:54 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

With the long ride planned thraughted by the weather, the fires and stomach pains we finally got out for a little blast out along the flat to Taylors Mistake and back with a couple of intervals and an extra climb thrown in for fun. Probably about all I could have managed today. So glad that I ran yesterday otherwise all that running would never have been able to happen.

Saturday Feb 18, 2017 #

10 AM

Run 1:53:28 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

From Sumner up Captain Thomas and along the Crater Rim to Godley Head then back via a random summit (I can't resist a summit!), the mtb track and Scarborough Bluffs track. Feeling quite good today which makes a change but a bit sad I didn't have company as Shayden had to bail for the millionth time (okay, slight exaggeration)! I guess the ankle is making some progress but it's hard to tell and feels like it will be a long way off before I can run without it strapped.
4 PM

Run 1:09:29 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

M decided to go running and, because he looked so ruggedly handsome in his white polypro and shorts, I was convinced to join him. Bit of jogging with some intervals up various parts of Huntsbury although I think it was mostly M doing the intervals and me grovelling along behind. Actually surprisingly good fun!

Friday Feb 17, 2017 #

6 AM

Run 44:14 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

Street bash up Huntsbury to Kenmure, down Major Aiken and along the river to home. The asphalt was all damp which was nice to see but it wasn't actually wet (so happy to see all the drizzle we got later today though - I've never been so happy to be drenched riding home from work).

Thursday Feb 16, 2017 #

Just out and about on the streets with M on the tandem. Feeling shattered. Good to get out but so hard to concentrate.

Wednesday night run up Mt Pleasant from Barnett Park for sad gossip sessions on the top. So glad to have this awesome group of people around in such sad times.

MTB 2:10:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

M and I biked over to meet up with Matt and Lara where we were delayed fixing Matt's bike which may have been a good thing?? Then headed off to ride up Worsleys. Passed the entrance to the bike park where people were telling us it was closed but we decided to ride up anyway and come down a different way. It was probably about then we saw all the angry, firey smoke which we thought might have been up near Halswell. Carried on up Worsleys as it seemed quite far away and the wind was blowing it away from us. It was such a lovely single track on the other side of the 4wd road.

Got up to the Summit Rd where Matt and M decided to ride the Flying Nun and Lara and I planned to cruise along the road and meet them at the Kiwi. We didn't get far, getting turned back by a fireman who told us to ride back down Worsleys as there was now another fire blocking access to the Kiwi. At least we were on bikes. Felt for the poor runner who had his car parked at the Kiwi. Met the boys back at the top again as they'd obviously had to turn back what with there being flames and all that. Back down Worsleys and home to start watching the news like hawks.

I reckon we probably got to the top within 15 minutes of that second fire starting. So hard to fathom that when we were there it wasn't that big but turned into a monster. They thought they'd have that one under control with hours :-(

11 AM

Run 3:13:09 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

Oh lord, it's been a little while since I've needed rescuing on a run before. I tried so hard to get myself back to my bike but I'd been banging up against the wall from the very beginning then foolishly decided by the Bellbird that since I was so shattered I'd go down the backside of the hills because I always need to walk round there. Got lost and confused. Had to backtrack. Had to sit down for a while at a couple of points too. Getting back up the hill required endless dragging of the feet! Need more sleep and a sensible brain. Hopefully I don't feel so unwell tomorrow.

Saturday Feb 11, 2017 #

9 AM

Road Bike 3:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Riding out to Tai Tapu at "high speed" to meet Katherine and M then cruising back to town after delicious smoothies followed by mad thrashing up the hill to the kiwi by which point I felt exhausted so it was a bit more cruisely round the tops, down Mt Pleasant and home to pizza and chocolate raspberry pie. Excellent post-ride food!

Friday Feb 10, 2017 #

6 AM

Run 1:21:25 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Morning fun up Huntsbury and the mtb track next to the road then round Mt Vernon and down Farm Track. Was all good until the lady who told me that the city needs to burn, everyone needs to burn. Was mildly terrified after that and got a bit panicked!!

Wednesday Feb 8, 2017 #

6 PM

Run 59:35 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Sense 5 Ultra

Nice easy run up the Harry Ell and round the back of the Sugar Loaf and all that. Beautiful night for running.

Tuesday Feb 7, 2017 #

5 PM

Road Bike 1:35:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Cruising the mean streets with M on the tandem as we were too tired to time trial.

Monday Feb 6, 2017 #

8 AM

MTB 7:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

In contrast to yesterday the wind had picked up rather a lot over night and it was tough work to start with...until it got ridiculous and I was terrified and started having a panic attack. I really thought we were going to need to use the beacon or something to get us out of there but M is amazing and managed to get us and both bikes down the hill safely so we could start riding again. Hooked onto the rail trail at Oturehua where we proceeded to smash it to Wedderburn which was quite fun as we had favourable winds for once. Then along the road and all that jazz back to Naesby. It would have been an awesome day if the wind hadn't been so crazy strong.

Sunday Feb 5, 2017 #

9 AM

MTB 7:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

From Naesby along Mt Buster Road to the Ida Railway Hut. Such good times! The weather was glorious, the scenery was amazing and the riding (when we weren't bike pushing!) was super fun. We were both pretty tired by the time we got to the hut though but we had it all to ourselves which was awesome.

Saturday Feb 4, 2017 #

4 PM

MTB 1:45:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Bombing round the Sandpit at Naesby as the forest was closed. My bike handling skills suck!

Friday Feb 3, 2017 #

6 AM

Run 1:21:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Merrell Allout Rush (#5)

I really needed this run after such a shitty day on Thursday. From home up Huntsbury where I took the mtb track off to the side instead and then over Mt Vernon and down the valley track. Tired thighs and feeling so tired but very grateful to be out running.

Wednesday Feb 1, 2017 #

5 PM

Road Bike 40:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Out to the rogaine with M on the tandem. Battling a lovely headwind.
6 PM

Rogaine (Sumner Rogaine) 1:57:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

Cruising round the rogaine with Lara. Struggled to run round the horrible street controls and by the time we'd got those my ankle was really sore which was not the best start. Enjoyed the rest but any sidling or uneven stuff just sucked today.
9 PM

Road Bike 25:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Shimano WM64

Home again with favourable winds but the light was fading so M put us into TT mode and my thighs were burning most of the way home. Exhausted and achey afterwards!
