11 AM

Run long 3:46:47 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

With M from Orton Bradley up to the Packhorse then round the back of Mt Bradley and up Mt Herbert and back down again. Feeling pretty crappy and a bit discouraged.

Run tempo 29:42 [4]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

Since I wasn't up to any speedy work on Wednesday I thought I'd try going speedy round my little valley loop (up Marette Taylor and the valley to the last sign then back down the valley). Felt like super hard work heading up and I wanted to give up and was sure I was going to have a super slow time. Didn't feel like I went back down very fast either but there you go, fastest time by 50 seconds. Might be better with a warm up first though!

Felt pretty ill round my stomach afterwards (well, and during but I desperately tried to ignore that). Also, tried to do a warm down walk but my foot went funny. Not in a bad injured way but in a hey, I feel like my toe has been stung by a bee kind of way. It's still a bit stingy several hours later. Weird

MTB 42:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

To Clare's via the supermarket and C2. I sure do suck at mtbing these days although to be far I don't normally ride a bike by myself these days apart from commuting so it feels awfully twitchy.
10 PM

MTB 37:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

Home again via the road this since it was late, dark, cold and I had a pretty terrible front light. Made riding the country road bit tricky since there are no street lights. Tried not to veer off the road but that took a lot of concentration. Biked hard most of the way 'cause I was exhausted and wanted to go to bed.

Run 58:49 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

Was intending to do a fartlek-type run but since it appears to be that time again when my body tries to hurt me I figured that would be a bad idea so went for a nice jog instead with only the last 15 minutes having much stomach pain. Did a nice variation of the double valley run which had a pretty ferocious headwind any time you headed up either of the valleys.

Road Bike 2:19:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

M decided we would ditch the TT in favour of a long ride which was probably good as I am feeling quite stressed. Headed up Dyers and along to the Bellbird where the cloud was so thick it was horrible so we turned around and headed back along the tops the other way and down Mt Pleasant. Still pretty worried about not being strong enough and fast enough for M but at least I felt like we got to discuss the Katie tactics.

Note

4 weeks yesterday till Le Race and I didn't ride at all this week other than a mtb ride and commuting. I am freaking out!
8 AM

Run 2:10:00 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

From Cindy's up the wibbly wobbly mtb track round to the fenceline (the long way round I realised after missing the first 2 turn offs) then up to the wind turbine and round the fenceline listening to all the beautiful bird sounds, down the twisty turny tracks on the other side where I promptly got lost. Finally found the fenceline again and headed back up the other side and then back over and down into Aro Valley. Nice, humid, drizzly morning. Felt okay running today for so little sleep. Would have liked to have run for longer but was hungry and supposed to back to go marketing with Cindy.

Saturday Feb 21, 2015 #

7 AM

Run 42:04 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

From Cindy's up through the reserve in Aro Valley and back down again a different way. A bit of walking 'cause I didn't want to get tired. Long day ahead.

Friday Feb 20, 2015 #

Note
(rest day)

Set the alarm early to go for a ride before work but when it went off I knew it was a bad idea. Feeling absolutely shattered. Work has destroyed my brain! No time after work to do anything as have to get to the airport so feeling super anxious about getting fat and lazy. Yes, that may sound ridiculous but I think my headspace is a bit ridiculous right now.

Thursday Feb 19, 2015 #

6 PM

Run 1:04:15 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend 8 (newest!)

Up onto the ridge from the valley then along sheep tracks to the hut then squelching up dry creak following mysterious sheep tracks and the odd yellow post which I thought might be track markers but later decided they were probably marking a trapping line. According to the latest council map of tracks there is a track up here - which amuses me 'cause there are vastly more track-like tracks in other places that aren't marked on this map. Got a bit disoriented up near the top of the valley when the mist got so thick I could barely see a metre or so in front of me. Could hear the screeching of disc brakes above me though so knew I was close to the top. Not a good time to be attempting to mtb up there! Round Mt Vernon then down Farm Track with some excursions on various sheep tracks and fun tussock. Foot AND stomach mostly behaved tonight!

Wednesday Feb 18, 2015 #

6 AM

MTB 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

Early morning ride up Rapaki, Mt Vernon track then down Huntsbury to home. Tried to do a few intervals on my way up Rapaki which was painful but you know, make every session count. Beautiful morning though. If I hadn't felt so hungry I wished I could have been out for longer.

Tuesday Feb 17, 2015 #

6 PM

Run 54:11 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5 (black)

Around about in the valley and dry creek, the valley over jogging and walking round various sheep tracks. A bit of walking to look after my foot and then, once that seemed okay, to look after my stupid stomach. Sigh. Nice night in the valleys though. Even met someone else up dry creek by the shelter which was a surprise.

Strength and Conditioning 20:00 [3]

Long day at work so no time or motivation for anything much except eating dinner!

Sunday Feb 15, 2015 #

11 AM

Road Bike 1:51:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Up Dyers, along the tops and down to Sumner to have hot drinks (and vegan banana bread!!!!!) at Coffee Culture just so I could really fall into the 'dumb cyclist' category my workmates seem to think all us cyclists are (and to warm up - it was so ridiculously cold). Then home, obviously! Thrashing out some good (i.e. feeling like throwing up) intervals heading up to the kiwi and then on the climbs along the tops.

Saturday Feb 14, 2015 #

Note

Was going to go mtbing but firstly I hadn't managed to make any progress in my work and then I couldn't go out because I was making progress! Anyway, where has summer gone? I thought we had another couple of weeks to go until the chill returned :-(
4 PM

Road Bike 42:00 [3]
shoes: SH-WM43

On the tandem with M out to see Stephanie finish the Coast to Coast (SO impressed! She's amazing!) and back again. 21 minutes each way which clearly meant the way there was much longer since we were going hard in order not to miss her finish! Freezing cold!

Friday Feb 13, 2015 #

6 PM

Run 2:21:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

From Sumner up to above Taylors Mistake, along the tops and down the valley and partway home. Horrible soul-crushing headwind/crosswind/all-over-the-place wind most of the way home (especially on the steep climb up from Evans Pass) which reduced me to a walk a few times 'cause I was too frustrated or kept being blown off the track. Left foot was a bit niggly some of the time. Was okay for the last hour though and fine now. But my wrist is stupidly sore which is just weird since what does a wrist have to do with running?

Walk warm up/down 12:00 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Walking home along the river the rest of the way as a warmdown and because I hate the concrete. Naturally there isn't even a breath of wind down here. It's not fair!

Thursday Feb 12, 2015 #

6 PM

Road Bike 45:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little ride on the tandem with M up to the cup then up Major Aiken and home.

6 PM

Run 1:28:35 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

From SOT up and round abouts on the top. Found a lower track round Coronation Hill Reserve which was exciting. Was a junction halfway round which looked like perhaps it could go down to Governers Bay or perhaps just to the hairpin. Had already been out longer than intended by this point so didn't go checked it out. Running okay despite feeling tired from yesterday but my stomach was stabbing me which is not good and also weird. On a bright note, my iron is now in good spirits.

Tuesday Feb 10, 2015 #

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 28:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to the TT with the delicious tail wind.
6 PM

Road Bike race 25:37 [5] 16.0 km (1:36 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Horrible strong headwind on the way back. Was soul destroying. Just tried to push as hard as possible and not throw up.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 34:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Into the headwind on the way home. Exhausting.

Sunday Feb 8, 2015 #

8 AM

Walk 3:20:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Back down (down down down) to the car :-(

Saturday Feb 7, 2015 #

9 AM

Walk 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

From the hut up Mt Owen and back. Feeling quite a bit better today. Was a bit terrified on the rock crossing section on the way up but it was easy on the way back! Plus it was nice seeing I wasn't the most useless person out there for once. Got back to the hut and decided to camp down in the exciting overhang/cave. This place is awesome.
5 PM

Run 47:41 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

From our campsite up to the rocky section just past the tarns and back again to find M hanging out on the track reading a book in the sun. Such an awesome day.

Friday Feb 6, 2015 #

2 PM

Walk 4:15:00 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

From Courthouse Flat up to the Granity Pass Hut. Feeling absolutely crap and more tired than I remember feeling in a very long time. Struggled to get myself down the staircase and then could barely walk up the riverbed to the hut. But it is spectacular.

(rest day)

Wednesday Feb 4, 2015 #

6 PM

Run 57:14 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Slow and steady run up and over into Albert Terrace and up that valley to the hut then along the sheep track back to Farm track junctiony thingie then along another sheep track to the last gate in the valley, up to the post then down valley track. There are some good sheep tracks round here at the moment! Considering how tired, dizzy and unwell I've been this went okay. Legs are finally starting to get used to this (althuogh they were trashed from yesterday's efforts).

Tuesday Feb 3, 2015 #

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 30:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to the TT. It's cold!
6 PM

Road Bike race 25:06 [5] 16.0 km (1:34 / km)
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Best time of the season but hard work. My thighs still feel a bit trashed and I was feeling pretty dizzy and a bit sick at work today which sort of crept in whilst I was out on the course. Just tried to focus on my breathing and maintaining an even pedal stroke which all went pretty well. M had some random app on his phone which we tried out today and it looked like we were doing 36km/hr on the way out and 40km/hr on the way back so not too bad. Murray passed us pretty early on and I felt a bit panicked thinking if he'd passed us that early then we were going to have a crap time but he never managed to get too far ahead of us.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 32:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Hit the wall really badly on the way home. Was worried I was going to faint. I might be sick...?

Monday Feb 2, 2015 #

7 PM

Walk 36:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5 (black)

Along the river and through the park and all that. I did do a bit of jogging but my legs felt tired and I felt dizzy (had to sit down on a bench by the river for a while). Wanted to do some stretches and strength work but I was too embarrassed with my brother here (our house is far too tiny for there to be anywhere to hang out other than the lounge). I did do a few stretches before bed though which definitely helped a bit.

Sunday Feb 1, 2015 #

6 PM

Run 2:26:00 [3]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

The boys dropped me off at the top of the Basdrat on the way home from too much sun at Okains Bay. Ran up to top of Coppers Knob then along the tops to just before the Bellbird where I dropped down (down down down) towards Governers Bay and explored those tracks for a bit then up up up to the crater rim again and round all the harbour-side tracks that have now opened, along the tops to Rapaki then down the valley and along the footpath to the end of Hillsborough Terrace. Felt quite good today which was cool 'cause I'd been feeling so car sick on the way home.

Walk warm up/down 12:00 [2]
shoes: Merrell Allout Rush

Walked home the rest of the way...too much concrete to be fun/nice running.
