6 PM

Road Bike 57:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little ride with M on the tandem up a couple of shorter climbs. Feeling shattered from work. Not getting enough sleep.

6 PM

Orienteering race (Sprint Series - Opawa) 26:36 [4] 3.1 km (8:35 / km)
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Not really feeling like this orienteering thing but since it was so close to our house and Chris had already hounded us about it we really had to go. Anyway, it was kinda fun but my legs felt so wooden they sure didn't want to run fast especially in these shoes and my brain was a bit mushy!
7 PM

Run 35:46 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

From the orienteering up into the hills a little bit and then home again. Felt alright going uphill but my legs were so stiff (damn cycling!) going downhill that I felt sure I was going to faceplant!

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to the time trial. Windy and a bit cold.
6 PM

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TimeTrial) 25:23 [4] 16.0 km (1:35 / km)
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Hard hard work. Gusty and hard on the way out but we did have some fast sections of tailwind but on the way home it was epic. So so cruel. It felt like we were basically crawling! Not a bad time considering the weather. Reckon we would have been about 25:40 something at the end of last year.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 33:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again. Exhausted.

Strength and Conditioning 20:00 [3]
(injured)

After a nice walk along the beach with M over at Seagulls Clatter or whatever Matt calls it. Sounds like we are soon going to have a lot of bike tyres...before we even have a bike!

Sunday Feb 23, 2014 #

1 PM

Run 3:33:18 [3]
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310 (grey)

From home up into the hills and along the tops to the end of the track past Coppers Knob (spent ages trying to find the shortcut track off Coppers to the track below but ultimately failed and had to go round the long way) then back again trying desperately to beat the storm. Wasn't looking good as there had been constant thunder for the entire return journey and people were stationed at various points along the road with their cameras set up to record the storm which was kind of amusing but also sort of alarming! It hit just after the Bellbird where I was luckily in the cover of trees and able to get M to come up and rescue me. Ultimately made it back to Worsleys by the time my ride appeared but I was soaked (well everywhere not protected by my jacket), freezing and a bit scared by all the lightning up there. Luckily had a sunhat so I could still see in the ridiculously heavy rain.
Runwise I had heavy, tight cycling legs (mostly a problem just getting up the hill but still pushed on and ran all the way without stopping) but otherwise felt really good.

11 AM

Road Bike 1:24:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the tandem out to Rangiora the long way. Rather hot.
4 PM

Run 29:20 [3]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7

Round South Belt and several loops in Matawai Park (I think I pretty much found every nook and cranny to explore - several times). SO hot! But M's Mum had made delicious scones on my return so it was worth it!
6 PM

Road Bike 2:30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again via an even longer route. Very nice and scenic but a but busier on the roads than we expected. Got a puncture in the back wheel too which took half an hour to sort out. Stupid back wheel. Please let our new bike arrive sooner than scheduled!!!

Friday Feb 21, 2014 #

6 PM

MTB 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With M up Rapaki and Mt Vernon then down Huntsbury. We were both feeling a bit funny. I think we're over tired. Too much entertaining?

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]

Thursday Feb 20, 2014 #

Note
(rest day)

Felt like I spent all evening in the kitchen instead!

Wednesday Feb 19, 2014 #

6 PM

Walk 2:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Still having funtimes stomach pain so instead of the long run I had intended a long walk seemed like a safer option (plus M offered to pick me up at the top of the hill so I didn't have to walk down again!). From up up the valley with some funtimes tussock bashing then along the tops with more tussock bashing on the Sugar Loaf and down to Vic Park. Nice.

Tuesday Feb 18, 2014 #

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to the time trial with M.
6 PM

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TimeTrial) 24:37 [4] 16.0 km (1:32 / km)
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Oh yeah!! We thrashed our previous times for a brand new PB despite it feeling terribly rough out there. Bad bad stabbing stomach pains about 5 minutes in and M reckoned it felt like a headwind in both directions! Can't wait to stop riding this bike and get our new tandem. I don't know how we are going to cope with waiting for it to arrive. It's gone from being fancy to super duper ultra fancy and I'm so ridiculously excited!!
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 35:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again. Tired.

Monday Feb 17, 2014 #

6 PM

Run 55:23 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Up and down in the valleys then round the river to home. Got a bit carried away and also lost Rogers track somewhere in the middle 'cause it's so overgrown. Crawled up through the tussock only to find the track again only metres before it joined Rapaki again!

Sunday Feb 16, 2014 #

11 AM

Road Bike 2:45:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Fun times on the tandem with M in the most glorious of heat up Mt Pleasant, along to Godley Head, down Evans Pass then back up again for added hills then along the tops back to Mt Pleasant and down again to home. My legs felt rather tired but it was worth making them even more tired!

Saturday Feb 15, 2014 #

3 PM

Run 2:07:30 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

From home up the valley and then along the tops. My stupid bladder managed to leak half a litre of water on me on the way up the hill. Stopped to try and work out what was wrong and didn't really see anything wrong but it seemed that it probably stopped after that. Hard to tell since my top was so wet you could wring it out even by the time I got to the kiwi. So yeah, I was cold and a bit miserable and my stomach swung between being okay and awful. And then it stayed awful so I had to get M to pick me up. Grump!

Walk 20:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Continuing along the tops until I'd had enough and waited for M to arrive. So cold despite the heat.

Friday Feb 14, 2014 #

6 PM

MTB 45:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Bit of a speedy ride up Rapaki with M. Such a nice night but there was no time for more mtbing fun so we had to head straight back down which was rather sad.

Thursday Feb 13, 2014 #

7 PM

Run 55:02 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Cruisey run from Taylors Mistake while the others went swimming. I forgot my bandage and my wrist was not so happy afterwards. Guess it proves it does help.

Wednesday Feb 12, 2014 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

It started raining rather heavily not long after I got home so I decided today was the rest day instead of tomorrow. However, I did do my planks.

Tuesday Feb 11, 2014 #

5 PM

Road Bike 1:41:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

After the mad dash home M said he was still a bit broken so no time trial for us :-( Instead we rode up Mt Pleasant and down Evans Pass. So cold and I felt a bit shattered still from the weekend and all this work stress. Was sad about the time trial as it sounds like people got really fast times but then again I was pretty tired so it was probably for the best. Hopefully it's good conditions next week.

Monday Feb 10, 2014 #

9 PM

Strength and Conditioning 25:00 [3]
(injured)

My arms are so weak. The aim is to do planks every 2 days even if they are really short just to try and build up some kind of strength. And if anyone can think of an exercise to strengthen your arms that doesn't involve the lower arm (i.e. anything that doesn't involve my wrist) I would really like to know.

Sunday Feb 9, 2014 #

11 AM

Run 2:22:23 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

From home over the hills to Sumner. Met up with Emily, Clare and Amber at the top of the Bridle Path and raced them to Evans Pass. Thrashed them too (although I did have to cut some serious corners on Greenword Park to keep ahead but it seemed only fair since they were riding and it was downhill)!! Kept up most of the way down Captain Thomas. Shattered by the time I got to the cafe. Was pretty happy with how I was running today though. It's been a full-on week.

Saturday Feb 8, 2014 #

2 PM

MTB 3:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

From home up Mt Pleasant, over the Mt Pleasant mtb track, down Greenwood Park to Evans Pass then along the Godley Head track to the Anaconda, down that then along the road back home into a nasty headwind. Not a great ride over the rocks. Feeling quite useless so had to whiz down the Anaconda to cheer myself up. Bit shattered by the time I got home.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

6 PM

Walk 40:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Mizuno Wave Nirvana 7 (blue)

Was going to go for a jog and then do some stretches but I was so tired by the time I got home from work so it was a walk instead and no stretches because I was too hungry after that! Saw an albino duck...weird.

Thursday Feb 6, 2014 #

10 AM

Run 7:15:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

Round Mt Somers with M. Lots and lots of walking/grovelling - M has such massive strides up hill that I slowly die trying to keep up. We had to check out all the waterfalls too. Waterfalls are awesome. Also included in the excitement was losing the track on the way down from the bus stop and ending up in a gorge where I had a panic attack. (Not so) good times. Took quite a while to find a way out after we'd managed to get quite a long way down. That sucked out an awful lot of my mental energy which meant the last stretch from Pinnacles Hut was miserable. But there was a waterfall so that kept me going.

Wednesday Feb 5, 2014 #

7 PM

Road Bike 46:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Bit of a painful ride on my own bike with M round to the bottom of Mt Pleasant and back. Pretty much gets a bit too sore within about 5 minutes of riding.

Tuesday Feb 4, 2014 #

5 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 30:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Riding out to the time trial.
6 PM

Road Bike race (Old Tai Tapu Rd TimeTrial) 25:12 [4] 16.0 km (1:35 / km)
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

On the Jean Claude Tan Dam with M. Pretty good time for the conditions - lovely headwinds on the way out and a few tough patches on the way back too. Hard work.
7 PM

Road Bike warm up/down 27:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Home again. It's amazing what favourable winds can do...

Sunday Feb 2, 2014 #

11 AM

Walk 3:55:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

With the parents from home along the river then up the valley and through various closed tracks to the Gondola and down to Lyttleton via Major Hornbrook. Pretty cruisey and Mum was having a good time (probably because she's a bit of a rebel at heart and was excited at the prospect of breaking the law!). Dad sulked a bit though.
4 PM

Run 1:39:45 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Lone Peak 1.5

After a delicious vanilla nice block in Lyttleton I deposited the parents with M and ran home again via the Bridle Path, crater rim and Mt Vernon. Feeling pretty good but the sloshing sound from my new bladder when I run is a teeny bit annoying.

Saturday Feb 1, 2014 #

12 PM

Road Bike 1:36:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Tandeming with M from home up Mt Pleasant and down Evans Pass in the drizzle.
