7 PM

Rowing Machine 24:45 [4] 5.0 km (4:57 / km)
(injured)

On the rower at Michael's parents place. Michael and his Dad were attempting to improve my form. Definitely beginning to feel a little less uncomfortable over a long distance but it requires so much concentration to keep the form going correctly. Quite looking forward to getting in a real boat...and then, no doubt, falling out.

Wednesday Feb 27, 2013 #

Road Bike 1:00:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Out to the orienteering at Burnside and back. Put in some sprints between the lights on the way there.

MTB 1:04:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Rapaki, along the summit road and down Dyers. Thought about riding along the traverse before heading down but no, knee wasn't going to cope with that (let alone a fun downhill...it's tragic). Oh well, at least I can now ride up a hill again. Knee was pretty stiff afterwards though.

Gym - Cardio 30:00 [3]
(injured)

20 minutes on the cross trainer then, after the torturous rowing, 10 minutes on the bike. Knee was mostly okay but felt a little weird any time I pushed it much.

Rowing Machine 24:27 [4] 5.0 km (4:53 / km)
(injured)

Fun times! Had to stop after about 1500 metres to mop up the sweat on my hands and grips before continuing again so perhaps I could have done it 20 seconds faster? Started off sort of slowish but you know, even slowish is hard to keep up over a long distance. Did have enough to dig in deeper for the final 1000 metres though. Nice to get a good sweat going.

Gym (Arm weights) 20:00 [3]
(injured)

Tough work.

Sunday Feb 24, 2013 #

10 AM

MTB 55:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Round all the tracks at Macleans Island with Michael. Quite fun when you're whizzing along quite fast but I'd still rather be slugging it out on the hills.

Was feeling a bit sorry for myself when Michael went for a ride up to the kiwi in the afternoon :-(
5 PM

Strength and Conditioning 35:00 [3]
(injured)

Set to some more interesting musical choices by M.

Saturday Feb 23, 2013 #

12 PM

Road Bike 1:27:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Nice little ride out to Tai Tapu and back. Bit of a headwind on the way out. Knee survived just fine which was good but I didn't push it.

Strength and Conditioning 45:00 [3]
(injured)

Good times in the lounge. Michael had picked out a rather strange collection of music to get me through...was entertaining. Also, knee is improving. Biking tomorrow...yay!

Note
(injured)

Yep, my knee is a bit unhappy today that's for sure! Couldn't bike (too sore), take the bus (too much walking considering walking 100 metres is like a marathon) or drive myself (you need a functioning right leg) to class so had to get M to drop me off. A bit of a bugger that I then had to negotiate a flight of stairs. Then there was fun times in the evening staggering round the supermarket holding desperately onto the trolley while Michael bounded ahead.
But actually, should be able to get onto the bike again by the weekend (fingers crossed)...as long as I stick to the flat. It could be worse right?

Wednesday Feb 20, 2013 #

6 PM

Road Bike 25:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

To Halswell Quarry with Michael.
7 PM

Orienteering race (Twilight Score - Halswell) 59:00 [4]
(injured) shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Started off okay and was feeling pretty good really then managed to fall about 15 minutes in (maybe less?) and twisted my knee big time. Because I am stupid I got up and somehow managed to get from a stagger to a run (eventually). Of course, my brain had gone and I proceeded to get lost and make stupid mistakes because I was distracted by pain. It may have even been fun if I hadn't fallen which would be amazing considering my recent declarations about orienteering and me.
8 PM

Road Bike 25:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Because, as I mentioned above, I'm stupid, I refused a lift home and biked instead. Going over the little hills was not so good but the flat stuff was okay as long as I didn't have to stop. Unclipping once I got home was not so fun.

7 AM

Yoga 15:00 [3]

Oh god, I am SO unflexible these days. Need to do more stretching.
6 PM

MTB 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

With Michael up Rapaki and down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill. Lots of stopping and starting on the downhill as M helped me conquer some stuff. The wind was a bit unpleasant tonight though.

Monday Feb 18, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

I am not superwoman there is only 24 hours in a day (some of which is supposed to be reserved for sleeping).

Sunday Feb 17, 2013 #

5 PM

Run 1:45:47 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Don't think I've run this long in ages. From Bowenvale up the valley then over Sugar Loaf and along the Crater Rim to the high point not far after Worsleys then back again via Thompsons and Vic Park. Felt pretty worn out by the end. Didn't originally plan to run this far!

Saturday Feb 16, 2013 #

3 PM

Road Bike 2:00:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

With Michael and Clare up Evans Pass and along the Summit Rd to the road closure then down Mt Pleasant. Clare is super speedy on the flat. Thighs tired from yesterday and I struggled to get going.

Friday Feb 15, 2013 #

10 AM

Road Bike 2:08:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Revo XR

Up Hackthorne and Dyers to SOK then down to Governers and round then up to Gebbies Pass only to find that the Summit Rd was closed from the pass. Grump. So I rode back pretty much the way I came. But as Michael pointed out, it did have more climb and we all know I like lots of climb. Feeling pretty strong today and super speedy (for me) on the downhills. Proud of my 11 minute descent down Dyers to home today. That might be my fastest time yet. Ooo, and I did some of the steep climbs standing up which is also a big deal for someone as wobbly as me.

Thursday Feb 14, 2013 #

6 PM

Run 1:03:22 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

With Michael from Taylors Mistake up to Godley Head checking out all the old gun emplacements then round about a bit and down the Anaconda. Beautiful night and the scenery out here is stunning. Poor Michael had to listen to me rave on about it all the time!

Wednesday Feb 13, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

3 different jobs/projects plus full time study...it's been a long week and I've only made it as far as Wednesday!
Riding the commutor to class each day is tough work. That bike weights a tonne. The new tyres are much better though.

Tuesday Feb 12, 2013 #

Note

Today my left wrist is really sore. Perhaps it's from yesterday's silly ride?
6 PM

Run 1:15:46 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

From Bowenvale up Vic Park and Latters Spur then along the tops and up Mt Vernon. Down and round the mtb track and then down the zig zag and hidden valley. Had to cut some corners on the way down and leap through the tussock as I was running out of time to get home before a meeting. Felt pretty good most of the time.

Monday Feb 11, 2013 #

3 PM

MTB 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Epicly windy ride up Rapaki and down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill. It was such a ridiculously strong headwind up Rapaki that I was in my smallest chain ring the whole way and weaving my way up as the wind pushed me off course. Then on a couple of the zig zags I can normally ride no problem I had to get off and walk round the corners and a couple of others I had to tripod. Ridiculous! I'd actually thought I would do some intervals up Rapaki but I had to just focus on surviving instead!

Sunday Feb 10, 2013 #

9 AM

Run 1:04:15 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Had a bit of trouble waking myself up this morning but had to get out before the visitors all got up and I ran out of time. From the end of Bowenvale up the valley, along the tops to Mt Vernon and back down the zig zag and hidden valley. Took a while to warm into it but once I got going I felt pretty good. Wasn't so keen to come down off the hill but you know, didn't want the visitors causing chaos and mischief!

Saturday Feb 9, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Swimming at Taylors Mistake. Awesome.

Friday Feb 8, 2013 #

9 AM

MTB 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Up Farm Track and Mt Vernon, along the traverse and back again then down the zig zag and Bowenvale downhill. Feeling a bit timid and out of practice at technical downhills.

Thursday Feb 7, 2013 #

6 PM

Run 43:58 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

A nice little run round in the valley. Feeling a bit blah.

Wednesday Feb 6, 2013 #

9 AM

MTB 1:50:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Hyde to Middlemarch. Finally we all managed to leave at the same time! Nice morning (but still a bit cold).

Tuesday Feb 5, 2013 #

8 AM

Run 37:07 [3]
shoes: Inov-8 Flyroc 310

Along the rail trail up to the highest point and back. The air was quite, umm, fresh!
10 AM

MTB 4:00:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Wedderburn to Hyde. SO cold today despite wearing a polypro, a windproof fleece and my jacket. Stopped at Ranfurly for ages to try and sort out my bike but we had to settle for just using a pink paperclip to hold my brake pads in place!
6 PM

MTB 20:00 [3]

A quick blat on the tandem with Michael up to the tunnel and back. Good fun!

Monday Feb 4, 2013 #

10 AM

MTB 4:00:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Omakau to Wedderburn. It was cold and wet today but at least the scenery was beautiful. Did the first section with just Micheal and Rhea then on to lunch with Greig, Clare and Ebba. After lunch it was just us again and I got some solid speedwork in after sprinting ahead to warm up then taking a turnoff to look at some old gold mining area about half a k up the road. Michael thought I was still ahead of them so they started picking up the pace to try and catch me...but I was actually behind them desperately trying to catch them before the highest point. Definitely got the legs working hard!

Sunday Feb 3, 2013 #

2 PM

MTB 3:00:00 [2]
shoes: Louis Garneau Monte Rosa MTB

Clyde to Omakau with Micheal and Rhea tootling along on the tandem. Pretty cruisey pace so I was pushing in a nice high gear and did some sprints ahead to take photos and then to catch up again. Nice and hot today.
