Running 56:56 [2] 7.04 mi (8:05 / mi) +40m 7:57 / mi

Last run from White Plains! Nice and sunny out, first 1.5 miles along with Tom on the bike path along the Bronx River. Legs are finally feeling more normal if not 100% recovered from Midnight Run.

Now off to catch a flight to Orlando for the winter meeting of the American Astronomical Society!

And legs are still sore! Moved from hammies to quads though, so improvement? Toodled around White Plains with Tom. Our initial route of running Reservoir Rd. to connect with Broadway was thwarted by Reservoir Rd. being closed. Hope the legs finally feel up for a longer run tomorrow! Then off to conference land (Kissimmee, FL).

Running race 25:08 [4] 4.0 mi (6:17 / mi) +39m 6:06 / mi

3rd annual Midnight Run with Patti, James and Tom in Central Park. This year I didn't line up with the elite women, just hung out in the 6 minute corral, which was totally appropriate. Was in the lead for the women from that corral for mile 2, but the same woman who led mile 1 pulled ahead of me going up the mile 3 hill. Another woman passed right at the finish, when my stomach wasn't feeling well, so didn't give much of a fight.

Training started for 2016! This was 17 seconds faster than last year.

Happy New Year to all!

Running 21:38 [1] 2.13 mi (10:11 / mi) +48m 9:31 / mi

Little afternoon jog to loosen up with Tom. Left hamstring insertion is particularly twingy. Hopefully better tomorrow! Ran towards Silver Lake, didn't really find a trail.

Ski-puttering out the door at the Battleground. Up to the 2nd bridge. Ok cover really, it's dense snow. Had to watch out for tip-catchage as 'groomed' by snowshoers => not so wide.

Running 20:19 [2] 2.01 mi (10:06 / mi) +111m 8:38 / mi

And a brief run to round the workout out. Up the road towards Ap Gap, my that is a hill! Calf-splosion nearly by the turnaround of a mile uphill.

XC skiing 1:01:12 [2] 7.65 mi (8:00 / mi) +102m 7:41 / mi

Skate skiing on the 4 inches of snow that arrived overnight at Ole's. Borrowed skis from Steph, but actually they are originally my race skis from middle school... far too soft and now very scraped up from over a decade and a half of use by me, Mark, Steph.

Great to be out! Did lots of back-and-forth scampering around Tom who was classic skiing.

XC skiing 31:10 [2] 3.51 mi (8:53 / mi) +65m 8:24 / mi

And a classic perimeter loop using Eric's fishscales. Some drag, sure, but still got some glide too. And no slip, so probably hip flexors won't be as sore as they would be with standard wax.

Bah! There is no snow here in Waitsfield, VT. Very sad. But we headed out for winter adventure anyways, heading south from the Ap Gap on the Long Trail. Much ice, with about a centimetre of fresh snow. Felt like I was dancing the whole way. Certain steep sections were even more like parcours, full body engaged to try to not totally wipe out.

I made it a bit beyond the shelter, to a wooden ladder above which was a sheet of ice over a rock. Decided to call it quits at that.

Tom, Steph, Eric and Dad also survived the trail, doing it in a more hiking fashion. Dad cheated by having crampons. =)
