Running 1:15:08 [2] 8.37 mi (8:59 / mi) +254m 8:12 / mi

Exploring the NW corner of Powell's Butte. Misty when I ran although it burned off again and is another not-winter-feeling sunny day! Tailbone sore, I suppose from biking yesterday? Otherwise legs felt a bit tired from yesterday's orienteering. Saw 3 people emerging from Powell's Butte that were probably camping there homelessly overnight, other than that, saw one mountain biker and one hiker just as I was leaving. Pretty solidutidinal, nice.

Cycling 16:45 [1] 4.1 mi (4:05 / mi) +12m 4:03 / mi

Um, spring came? 60 degrees and not raining, so decided to do my errands by bike. Pumped up tires, consulted the SE bike route map and biked over to try to get my iPhone fixed. It's been slowly dying as the screen peels off of the electronics, and now the screen is either entirely black or a dull grey.

Very hipster dude in the shop confirmed the screen is peeling off, said I'd need a new screen (not actually sure how that follows- it's not cracked or anything, after all), but that he didn't have the right glass right now, it was coming in on Tuesday. I seem to be coping ok without it, so ok, round 2 sometime later!

Cycling 36:58 [1] 7.92 mi (4:40 / mi) +99m 4:30 / mi

And down to Sellwood to my spice shop where I got caraway seeds needed for Moosewood's version of Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage. Curious as to how different fennel versus caraway actually are. Anyone have insight?

CROC Multnomah Night Street-O

Yeehaw! Wow there were loads of people. Walked in to upstairs in the Lucky Lab pub and there were people everywhere and a line for registrating. Holy moly. But sorted out myself and the 4 fellow Reedies who came along.

The orienteering was a blast and surprisingly tricky for what looks like a grid of streets at 1:15000. But there are alleyways and some awkward roads and then just reading the clue questions and circling answers while running takes more time to do with flow too.

Plus, I decided to make it extra challenging by taking a headlamp that died 5 minutes into the event. Little trails between roads are way more exciting in the dark without a light. Surprised by a set of stairs once...

All of team Reed also seemed to have a blast. Awesome! Thanks Vanessa and all!

Running 42:12 [2] 5.01 mi (8:25 / mi) +94m 7:58 / mi

Morning run! Beautiful sunrise! And nearly light out at 7am, at least light enough to go counter-clockwise on this loop without a headlight!

Strength 12:01 [1] 0.11 mi (1:49:16 / mi) +1m 1:46:15 / mi

12 min core, at the end of which I remembered it was Zumba day and maybe I didn't need to do core...

Aerobics 45:00 [1] 0.71 mi (1:03:22 / mi) +1m 1:03:05 / mi

Back to Zumba!! Crowded times! And forgot my shoes, so was barefoot which makes blisters happen, I mean toughens my feet... So great to be back at it being a total goofmuppet aerobics-dancing!

And, we used mini-weights for one of the songs, got the arms better than ever before, holy moly!

Running 1:02:06 [1] 7.13 mi (8:43 / mi) +130m 8:15 / mi

Out with the lunch runners. Ran to/from home to get a little extra mileage. Ran the Woodstock 'catacombs', the name for the unimproved roads that thread some of Woodstock neighborhood. Awesome stuff, yay for not running on pavement! But my are there lots of barky dogs!

Orienteering 20:31 [4] 2.04 mi (10:03 / mi) +147m 8:13 / mi

Yeehaw! I got to play today! And the legs are feeling better, if not 100%. For the final day of Paideia orienteering class, we took a field trip over to Mt. Tabor and did the permanent course based on the tree posts. Awesome stuff. I did it in ~20 minutes, the math prof that's also an avid runner did it in ~30 and the others mostly completed just a bit under the 45 min time limit I gave for the score-o.

And two or three are interested to come to CROC's Multnomah Villiage Night Urban Score-O (my that is a lot of descriptors!). Woo!

Running 3:46 [1] 0.32 mi (11:53 / mi) +13m 10:33 / mi

Strength 12:00 [1] 0.15 mi (1:20:08 / mi)

Core when I got back, and had the penultimate bowl of curry. (Moosewood curry is great, but makes about 8 meals worth of servings.)

Orienteering 24:06 [1] 1.85 mi (13:02 / mi) +33m 12:21 / mi

Putting up streamers for Paideia Day 2 course. But I should have communicated with facilities I guess, two streamers were gone by the time people headed out!

But anyways, todays class covered orienting the map and using a compass. There still wasn't much need to use the compass on today's course, but I told them all to at least take a bearing to try to pick out the right tree on the open field leg. A little tricky, because there is a stand of trees that are 'scattered open' before the actual tree, but still a good exercise I figure!

One new student, and then the two math faculty and three physics students that were also there on Day 1. The typical math-science bias of orienteering or just my friends/students are showing up??

Legs are still in a world of pain from the downhill running on Sat, hopefully tomorrow they'll feel better!
12 PM

Aerobics 25:00 [1]

And then at 1230, I went to one of the physic's students courses on Irish Dance. And got my butt kicked. Legs still sore and my body forgets most ballet from high school... Jig stuff is better than the reel stuff. But all of it is supposed to be done lots lots faster!

Orienteering 20:00 [1] 1.68 mi (11:54 / mi) +69m 10:33 / mi

Arrived home from Bend at 10:30 pm, then woke up at 6:30am to go obtain printer ink, print orienteering courses, design a 30 minute presentation on orienteering maps and go put out streamers. Eep!
12 PM

Orienteering 26:29 [1] 2.18 mi (12:09 / mi) +87m 10:49 / mi

Taking down streamers and testing out tomorrow's course.

Paideia orienteering class day 1 went ok! 3 faculty, 6 student attendees. A physics major from each year, including one of my thesis students. I first introduced orienteering and then explained things about the map (scale, colors, contours, some individual symbols they would see out there) and then sent them off on a 1.7k course around campus. Most seemed to really enjoy!

Strength 3:06 [1] 0.02 mi (2:35:54 / mi) +40m 21:30 / mi

Hammies at 10s. My legs are totally trashed from the weekend, but it's more the quads than anything else.
