Note

Just registered for *everything*. As in: UNO Classic Champs (Blue), DVOA meet (Blue + dinner + wine tasting - should I play trail-o for the first time too?), and Raid the Hammer with Team Giggles to defend the women's title! Looking forward to it all!!
9 AM

Running race 1:38:48 [4] 25.0 km (3:57 / km) +43m 3:55 / km

Oak Openings Stampede

The first race that I've done twice here in Toledo! And it's an awesome one - 25k trail race (this year there was also a 50k option, but nope, too long for me!). I beat last year's time by 2.5 minutes, which is nice. I do feel like I'm in better shape, last year I had that ankle bone-bruise from the WOC relay that meant I couldn't run for a month.

Anyways, the race started real slow (7 min first mile) because lead dude was just taking his time (Matt Folk) and everyone knows he's faster so didn't feel like passing him. Kinda strange. But sped up 2nd and 3rd miles. Pack broke apart at around 5 miles, Kevin and I ran together for a bit, but then he dropped back a bit after 6 and I latched onto Yellow Guy. Stayed right on him for the remainder of the race. Actually a great pacer for me! He was doing the 50k, so had a whole other loop after I finished.

So nice to at least have one trail race here in Toledo!!

Running 4:00 [1] 0.35 mi (11:26 / mi)

Mini warm-up. Because really, how much warm-up is needed for a 25k?

Running 22:00 [1]

Bishop Lake White

Brought Tom up to play orienteering for the first time! We went a bit more over the symbols, then gave him a compass and map and off on white! He totally rocked it, even bravely diving into the thick summer undergrowth to get to two of the controls. Since he was navigating, just counts as running for me.

Orienteering race 1:05:00 [3] 8.4 km (7:44 / km)

And then Cooper + Michelle's Red course.

A good course, nice when the woods are so thick to have some trail-running options, else it would have just been a mega-slog. I did poorly to both #2 and #4, which is a bit worrying, since I know Bishop Lake pretty darn well, having set courses there...

To #2, I was too far west and thus came around the west nose of the hill, far too low. Had to make sense of things using the nearby huge trail right below me....

To #4, I came out on the trail a little left of the line instead of a little right like I was planning, so made a similar-feature error and then muppeted around a bit due to that. Something should have notified me earlier? Now I can see the two giant depressions really do have different flavors and I should have noticed.

I was a bit wimpy favoring trail options for the remainder of the course, but I think those were fastest and even with the woods I did go through I acquired so many burrs that they scraped my legs all up - loose o-pants next time, not tights!!!!

Rollerskiing 50:51 [1]

Specific strength smushed inbetween work times and going to see a free film on campus, Breakfast with Curtis. 4x most exercises this time, almost to the standard 5! And loved the film. It's set in Providence, which I don't know at all, but nonetheless made me miss the northeast!

Note

Left Garmin in my friend's car, did train today and yesterday! Today was the Bar 145 Break for Bourbon 5k. New run and had a good competitive field, I was 5th overall, sneaking in front of my rivals Kevin and Steve just in the final mile. And won a to-be-engraved with my name personal bottle of bourbon... interesting. May have to have a party to share that at!!!

We had a good group of 5 from astronomy. Woo!

Ohmygosh hot! Where did that come from? Anyways, cycling with it's wind chill seemed like the best call for the eve and it was time to pick up CSA veggies anyways. I made one of their recommended recipes tonight, an eggplant-chickpea stew. Hungarian-ish with lots of paprika. I might have added the cilantro + sour cream, but totally worked!

Running 3:22 [2] 0.35 mi (9:37 / mi)

Quick scurry over to gym, a student had some questions after class.

Aerobics 45:00 [1]

Yeehaw! Really gave it my all in Zumba today. Is a better workout if you put more in. Sure I looked way goofy, but whatever, was a great time!!

Strength 13:34 [0]

Core 15

Running 30:31 [1] 3.0 mi (10:10 / mi)

A lap around Ottawa Park with Tom. We breaked at the monkey bars to give them a few tries. So much harder than when I was little!
