XC skiing warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Warm up heading down and some skiing back and forth and then also includes warm down back up to alpine lodge with Sam, chatting away

Ski-O 58:34 [4]

NE Ski-o Champs @ Balsams, Blue Middle

Decided to enter blue to get more training in, see where I was losing time to the guys. Ended up 3rd behind Adrian and Robbie, not bad!

Skis were fast and think I mostly made good route choices, least happy with 4-5, should have started by turning around. Skiing up the wall was good hard work and then down the yellow, but totally ungroomed field was a blast! Almost fell several times, being jerked forward and backwards as the snow change consistencies. Got distracted by the road for 12-13-14, comparing to Adrian and Alex shows it probably wasn't faster, in either direction.

Another set of scrapes for the ski-o skis acquried at the top before the yellow downhill. Guess that's how it goes, but still not happy- will now be the outside edge.

XC skiing warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Trying to warm up in the blustery field!

Ski-O 7:20 [4]

Try 1 at the Balsams Sprint. Some one had gone over the fields with a snowmobile and dragger thing, so map didn't include all of reality. And then most of the dotted tracks made with a snowshoe had totally filled in, so impossible to find. But it was still a sprint, just a different challenge than mapped! First time through went ok, basically just kept track of controls where they were relative to each other because you could see all in the big field.

Ski-O race 6:08 [4]

2nd try at sprint, knew where everything was, just faltered once when I got confused by the presence of 6 heading to 8.

XC skiing 6:00 [2]

Warm down in the white out! Really could not see anything and snow just stinging face, would have been more of an orienteering challenge in that!!

Running 49:09 intensity: (8:31 @1) + (37:01 @2) + (3:37 @3) 5.82 mi (8:27 / mi) +86m 8:04 / mi
ahr:139 max:162

And last California run! Chillier morning, hands got a bit cold, despite wearing a long underwear top. Ran around rich-person land again, so much nicer without traffic lights every junction. Gates are very in there. Was way psyched that my hammie didn't twinge for the 3rd day running in a row, but then it did later in the day, after lunch, no idea why.

Strength 2:30 [0]

Push ups, blah. But did 15-14-13, with encouragement from Dan.

Running 51:05 intensity: (10:42 @1) + (38:05 @2) + (2:18 @3) 5.88 mi (8:42 / mi) +78m 8:21 / mi
ahr:138 max:161

Morning run down to Caltech and then south of there in rich-person land of windy roads and big houses. Stopped to take pictures of oranges, lemons and grapefruit growing on trees- seems so unnatural to me, surely they just grow in those orange netted bags in supermarkets?

Running 37:25 intensity: (2:55 @1) + (34:30 @2) 4.27 mi (8:45 / mi) +59m 8:24 / mi
ahr:138 max:153

So surreal, skiing yesterday on plenty of snow, today running around amidst palm trees in a tank top and shorts. California is a strange place! =) Back in Pasadena for a last 3 days of workshop before heading back East.

Strength 6:00 [0]

Almost forgot this, the guys were sorting out the controls and tables, I didn't really know how to help, so I did a bit of strength work. 14-13-12 on the push ups and then 3-4 min of abs.
10 AM

XC skiing warm up/down 8:27 intensity: (51 @1) + (6:47 @2) + (49 @3) 1.55 mi (5:28 / mi) +2m 5:27 / mi
ahr:135 max:159

Ski-O race 8:49 intensity: (1:22 @2) + (2:21 @3) + (4:22 @4) + (44 @5) 1.57 mi (5:37 / mi) +63m 5:00 / mi
ahr:152 max:180

Leg 1 of Long Sprint Relay @ Auburn Ski Club

And team Taco-CSU (me + Cristina) for 2nd!

Wooo! Off to a quick DP start, then a different first route choice to #1 and lost a bit of ground to Mikell. He was then ahead, but not far ahead the rest of the course, and I made up a bit just at the end, passing at the final control before exchange. Hard skiing, not too tricky decisions, but definitely did need to stay in contact with map.

XC skiing 3:28 intensity: (1:25 @1) + (2:03 @2) 0.47 mi (7:23 / mi) +1m 7:20 / mi
ahr:130 max:144

Ski-O race 11:21 intensity: (21 @2) + (3:00 @3) + (7:00 @4) + (1:00 @5)

Leg 2. Now alone, and trickier. Quick decision not to go the same way ad Leg 1 right off the start, and then a bunch of kind of in and out controls in a detailed area. After the fun fiddly stuff, had a massive slog up for a control at the top before flying down hill and into the finish to tag off Cristina.

This time 2 seconds down to Mikell, which combined with the first leg, would put us exactly even. But Donatas got both of us by 6-7 seconds in the total....

XC skiing 3:40 [2] 1.38 mi (2:39 / mi) +29m 2:29 / mi
ahr:96 max:152

Ski-O race 16:26 intensity: (8 @0) + (16 @1) + (3:08 @2) + (5:20 @3) + (7:29 @4) + (5 @5) 2.41 mi (6:49 / mi) +68m 6:16 / mi
ahr:160 max:177

After a mini coaching session with Cristina and Zan aided by Mikell, did the two short legs back-to-back. Recognized a lot by now, and snow a bit slower, but still training, with a map and even controls out!

Ski-O 9:14 intensity: (44 @1) + (1:43 @2) + (6:47 @3) 1.22 mi (7:34 / mi) +22m 7:10 / mi
ahr:152 max:171

Post-pie control pick up!
