XC skiing long (skating) 2:00:00 [1]

Skate OD at Northfield, by myself =(.

There's actually quite a lot of terrain there, I wasn't bored after 2 hours which is awesome. It does have a fairly repeatable rythym though as the only option from the lodge is up. So basically have to do up up up, down down down a few times, but different trails for different combinations and the skiing was good rock-skiing, just a few places you wouldn't want to be with race skis.

Saw the reservoir at the top for the first time- it's impressive. So much water on top of a mountain (ok, it's only 1100ft), very very bizarre feeling, but I guess that's because it's so manmade. Bet the dynamite could be heard for miles when they were making it.

Felt tired and sore from the race yesterday, hard to keep it going the last 45 minutes... did 30 min w/o poles.

XC skiing warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Warm up skiing first 3k or so of course, then back.

Temp of ~11F, waxed with VR30 x 3 + 4th layer underfoot, but that wasn't quite enough so added: 1 more full layer VR30 + 2 very light layers VR40 underfoot.

XC skiing race 23:09 [4] 6.5 km (3:34 / km)

The Bogburn!!!!

One of my favorite races ever. It's a classic race on turn-y little trails in Bob Haydock's backyard in North Pomfret VT. So much fun, no time to get bored with a long slog on some big straight stretch- you're always turning, not knowing exactly what's around the next corner.

I started 15s behind Dorcas and was way surprised to pass her on the first hill, but felt strong so just kept going. With only 15s intervals, had a fair bit of passing to do- once had a problem when I said 'on your left'- the girl got out of the track to the left, so I had to push her forward so we didn't crash. I was just starting to fade at the end, was worried at the 6k mark about conserving a little bit for whatever final hill there was (race advertised as 7k), but then the race ended very shortly afterwards- must have been only 6.5, I could have had a stronger finish if I'd known, oh well.

I won the women's race by 51 seconds over Heather from SMS, who is a quick J2. The top J2 boy nearly got me only 5 seconds back. Very happy with this result, feel like I should go to an Eastern Cup or something to see how I fare in a bigger race... but when am I going to fit that in?

XC skiing warm up/down 35:00 [1]

Warm down around the course. Not actually sure how long it took.

XC skiing 52:19 [1]

Took a subway, train, bus, plane, plane, bus, drove and then got to Oak Hill just in time to ski a bit before sundown! Bought a pass from the Dartmouth Outdoor center from a girl who has my green cords (passed down through the outing club from generation to generation), awesome!

Nice little ski around, the Ford Sayre kids were out, saw Dorcas coaching on the side of the trail. I skied everything but the last Outback loop up top.

Running 30:00 [1]

Ug. Backwards-logging. Conference was soooo busy, not much time to workout, and none to log it. But learned tons, saw what people in related topics are doing, met lots of new people- feel like 2 weeks of stuff was crammed into 4 days!

Little jog down Rock Creek during lunch time of the last day. Nice out, some trail running, once felt a bit of pressure upon ankle flexion, but not real pain. Must keep up with the icing! (Also no time for that over conference, bad!!)

Running 40:00 [1]

Whew, a bitty run during lunch time during the AAS conference in Washington DC. It's based at the Woodley Park metro station- a big Marriott is the conference hotel- so disorienteering inside such a massive building- wish I had a map and compass for getting between talks!

Ran down Rock Creek, then explored a bit some other trails, then crossed on Mass Ave bridge and ended up in embassy district, saw embassies for lots and lots of countries, mostly the small ones seemed to be on the roads I was running on, the bigger/richer countries must have more grand buildings on another road or something.
