Running intervals (track) 8:48 [5]

400: 1.24
800: 1.29, 1.28 = 2.57
400: 1.21
800: 1.30, 1.26 = 2.56

Legs heavy from racing yesterday. Quads in particular. So was more of a be-tough-while-it-hurts-real-bad session than actually going really quickly, although I tried!

Drills 10:00 [1]

Hurdling drills. Including some actually attempting to go over hurdles for the first time this season- super-duper awkward!!! Ug. Need to re-learn how to be graceful at this!

Running 30:00 [1]

15 min warm up, recoveries between intervals (a full lap each time), and a 2 lap cool down

Note

MOVING!!!!

So, I just accepted a job offer for an astrophysics post-doc position back in the States! As of Oct 2009, I'll be living in Amherst, MA. (Well, don't actually know what town I'll live in, but somewhere in that area!)

So will be getting back to my roots and be able to ski in the winter and orienteer in the other seasons!!!

XC skiing (rollerskiing) 24:00 [2]

From home, up to Shotover!

All was well, except for the road up to shotover, which was icy. Ice and rollerskis just don't mix. So the triceps got some extra work as I couldn't get grip with the skis at all- uphill double pole test!

Orienteering 44:29 [4] *** 5.2 km (8:33 / km) +270m 6:47 / km

TVOC Sat Series- Shotover, Light Green

Not too bad- smoothish til actually had a route choice to 7 and 8. Passed Jenny on my way to 10, and then choose the wrong path, oops. Doesn't help to run much faster if you can't find the controls!

Caught in green on the way to 15, then just issues in the circle to 16. Tired by the end of it!! Haven't been doing much terrain running, and it was tough out there!

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 2.2 km (9:05 / km) +80m 7:42 / km

And the prologue race for our training after a lunch.

So, I lost it at number 2 after being digested by a gorse bush. Head just wasn't together enough to register the idea that I really was in the right place and the control was missing... wasted 7 minutes there? (Mostly walking around being brain dead, so haven't counted it as training time- I was actually 10 min behind the winners on this 2.2 k course!)

Ian passed me on the way to 10- he has a bit more zip in his run! Then 10 wasn't there either.

Orienteering 27:00 [3] 2.85 km (9:28 / km) +180m 7:12 / km

Tired! And starting miles behind everyone as it was a chasing start and I was way behind on the first course. So just ran alone the whole time (was this the point of the training? maybe we could have let me start vaguely near others).

Frequently dopey, but no huge mistakes. As I said, tired. Feet definitely dragging by the end!

Orienteering 15:00 [2]

Recovering some controls.

Running intervals (track) 15:00 [4]

Kind of wierd session-
2 x (5 x (200 @ 5k pace, 200 @ marathon pace)), 1 lap recovery between the two, the 200s were continuous (so 5 laps at a time)

was doing the 5k 200s @ 43, the marathon ones at 47

Not too hard really. Started a third set, but it was chilly and hamstring was starting to complain a tiny bit.

Running 15:00 [1]

Warm up, down and the lap inbetween intervals.

Drills 5:00 [1]

Stationary hurdling drills (ie. not jumping yet, stepping over).
