Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Jog to start with a few running drills, plus about 10 min of warm-down with Kat afterwards (venting slightly about my horrible run, perhaps...).

Orienteering race 1:08:27 [4] 7.1 km (9:38 / km) +230m 8:18 / km

Beaudesert Regional Event

Bah! is about how I feel about this one. Horrible races happen sometimes, and today was sometimes. But I think one important lesson was learned- be careful when attempting to find pits!

Actually, there were times I was orienteering quite well today, when I wasn't fumbling about backwards and forwards looking for pits. Besides mistakes on 2, 7, 8 (all pits), I was doing well until 12. Then 12 was absolutely horrible. ~6.5 minutes there, and to be honest, I should have kept my head together better, coming back afterwards, there *was* a veg boundary, just far closer to the track than I envisioned, for some reason.

Having finally been led into 12 by others (I won't even pretend I actually eventually found it) I pulled myself together, planned my way to 13 and flew down the hill, at which point I twisted my ankle. Painful. I just sat where I fell for awhile, waiting for the pain to subside a bit. Then sat up, and considered whether I should finish the race. On one hand, I didn't feel very competitive anymore, and my ankle hurt, on the other, I am damn stubborn generally about not giving up. I decided to give up and started walking towards the track, but then turned around and decided to jog around the course and in. No big mistakes from then on, but I wasn't really pushing it.

Orienteering (Control Pick) 45:00 [2] 4.0 km (11:15 / km)

EDS training at Cannock Chase, Sherbrook

First off, control pick with brown only. Much better than brown-only on Cannock last year, but parts were still tough. I should have looked harder for the pit at number 2, because I was actually on the right spur, then ran past it, and had to come back. Also was far too low at number 4, had two old ladies tell me everyone else was going up the hill. Grrr... Things were smoother from there, except 12 which had been nicked, 14 where I was too high, and 18 where I bashed my knee real hard going over a downed tree. Ouch!

Orienteering (Map Memory) 1:05:00 [3] 7.5 km (8:40 / km)

Map Memory

Alternated controls, one remembered the way from map memory and ran there, other followed and attempted to learn the way to the next control. I was really nervous about doing this, as I wasn't at all confident in my map- memory skills, having been pretty horrible doing it with Ruth at Shotover. But, this went much better! Only got really awfully confused at 13. At 5, I messed up, but knew exactly how, so was still able to find the control without the map. Really cool stuff, and tough to get info and plan on the map while running at person-without-map-speed!

Orienteering (Trains) 27:00 [3] 3.5 km (7:43 / km)

Trains with Tessa and Lizi. Was good fun, and I was orienteering ok, I thought. Bad route from 5 to 6 (why go over the extra little hill) and I miss-hung 7 in the wrong cleared bit, I was very confused by those cleared bits though. Proud of myself for finding the little reentrant in the green at 9 with such low visibility. And that was that for the day...

Running 32:26 [1]

My Marston-Headington loop. Felt ok actually, after the two days off and being ill. Calves were tight on the uphill.

Note
(sick)

Well, it had to happen sometime this winter, I suppose. Woke up with a cold. Stuffy, stuffy, stuffy nose. Boooooo. But, really it's convenient, as I think I should have a few days off to repair what ever is wrong with the hip, plus I definitely overworked myself on the weekend so some time off won't be bad...

Running warm up/down 36:30 [2]

Warm up, and down after the session. Feel ok, still tired though.

Running intervals 20:00 [4]

4 x 5 min, all the girls ran together today, which was really nice the last minute of the 3rd and the last two minutes of the 4th were pretty tough, but that's about when it should get tought, I think!!

Note
(injured)

Bah! And today's intervals aggravated my hip again. Well, not that it's ever gone away really for the past month, but it's worse after intervals. I should probably let it heal, whatever it is.... take a few days off?

Running (Recovery) 42:00 [1]

Slow run on my pre-circuits loop. Tired for sure, did some loosening up drills as well.

Strength (Circuits) 44:00 [1]

OUOC circuits. A bit lazy, as I was tired! Also missed the musica! I had to keep track on my watch alas and alack, and we only had 6, so everyone had to come up with a lot more exercises!

Running warm up/down 6:30 [1]

Jog to lab afterwards with the Lucy.
