Running 38:34 [2] 4.5 mi (8:34 / mi)

Even colder, so treadmill run today. Ran some faster paced bits, down to 7:35/mi at the fastest (for a two quarter-miles). Felt ok, nice to get legs moving a bit more. Had SI belt on.

Strength 6:00 [1]

Core.

XC skiing 1:03:58 [2] 8.07 mi (7:56 / mi) +199m 7:22 / mi

The warmest day at 7 degrees, so we went out skiing. Wore a down vest and double-hatted it and stayed happy and warm! Skated a bit faster than the day after Christmas! Really does feel fine to skate, which I am so thrilled by!

Tom skied pi miles, but unfortunately broke a pole. =(

Running 42:52 [2] 4.04 mi (10:37 / mi) +218m 9:05 / mi

More chilly times, bundled up and ran around the neighborhood. A double had seems to help a lot. Started to think about trying to run a bit faster.

Hiking 1:00:00 [1] 2.5 mi (24:00 / mi) +114m 21:01 / mi

Chilly times! 2 degrees or so? Walked around the neighborhood with Eric.

Hiking 1:04:05 [1] 2.23 mi (28:44 / mi) +80m 25:51 / mi

Snowy family hike to Butternut Pond. Dad, me, Tom, Steph, Eric and Mark. We were planning on taking Sylvia, but we bundled her all up and then she fell asleep, so we left her home with my mom. I had big clunky boots, Tom had YakTraks on his Sambas, which turned out to not be super-warm.

Running 32:04 [2] 3.16 mi (10:09 / mi) +79m 9:25 / mi

Ran home from the trailhead.

Wahoo!! Codymonster recommended trying skate skiing and it was totally better than classic on the pelvis, didn't expect that! Also wore an SI belt to keep pelvis pulled together, so maybe that helped too. Great to get out and ski, kept going back and forth to ski together with Tom who was rocking my Grandma's fishscales.

Running 36:05 [1] 2.82 mi (12:48 / mi) +69m 11:54 / mi

We made the 6h20 drive from Rochester to Grantham, NH!! Sylvia was fine with the drive except for about 2 hours in when she got hungry and started crying like she *really* meant it - was hard because we were on the thruway couldn't pull off for awhile.

Anyways, woke up Christmas morning to a blizzard, so layered up (including YakTraks) and went out in it. Super slow because of traction/kicking slow, but nice to get the run in!

Running 28:36 [1] 2.92 mi (9:48 / mi) +36m 9:26 / mi

Snow! Woo! So a snowy-slippy GT with Tom. Probably the last one as we start driving early tomorrow to switch to the other set of (grand)parents!

Running 31:40 [1] 3.14 mi (10:05 / mi) +31m 9:47 / mi

Woo, we made it into Rochester yesterday midday with no major mishaps! Biggest issue was a dirty diaper change on the redeye. But stewardess helpfully got the changing table down for me while table my hands were filled with baby + changing stuff.

Tom and I did a Grant Tour (GT) of Scottsville *together*- first run together in ages!

Running 27:53 [1] 2.64 mi (10:34 / mi) +44m 10:02 / mi

2nd baby jogger run! Sylvia stayed awake until maybe 20 minutes? She is stll flummoxed by her mittens. Dropped mail off at blue box and then at the guy who rented from us last year's new house.

Tomorrow we travel. Eep!

Running 28:21 [1] 2.33 mi (12:10 / mi) +66m 11:11 / mi

Jog around the neighborhood. Still so slow. But I don't think running, or at least jogging, hurts my injury really, so that's good. Compared to skiing, don't feel it at all running, unless I take a big step up or trip or something.

Running 32:58 [1] 2.8 mi (11:46 / mi) +58m 11:04 / mi

XC skiing 54:44 [1] 4.18 mi (13:06 / mi) +90m 12:16 / mi

For a morning ski, we went to Trillium Lake and Tom, Sylvia and I skied the loop around the lake. Really beautiful views of Mt. Hood and amazing how quiet the ski places are on weekdays!!

Hiking 9:20 [1] 0.38 mi (24:33 / mi) +59m 16:34 / mi

Hiking back up the final, icy, long hill.

There was another snow baby in the parking lot who was protesting getting bundled up.

XC skiing 43:36 [1] 3.36 mi (12:59 / mi) +61m 12:17 / mi

Wahoo! Sylvia meets snow!

We loaded up the car with skis, baby, baby stuff, guitar, food and stay-overnight-in-cabin stuff (=full car!) and went up to Mt. Hood. We got to Teacup Lake at around 3pm and went out for a little jaunt! I carried Sylvia in the Ergo, which was fine for the pace we were going.

Pelvis never had sharp pain skiing, but it let me know I was using the injured joint. So had to pretty much keep it at a shuffle.

Afterwards, stayed at Reed College ski cabin with other faculty (students have exams). Fun times!

Running 18:48 [1] 1.0 mi (18:48 / mi)

First super-duper easy jog with Sylvia in the BOB jogging stroller! She was in her infant car seat and I kept a close eye for too much head jostling or head slumping.

At the beginning, she struggled to try to find her thumbs when her hands were well covered with mittens. But the somniferous powers of the jogger won over and she was asleep about 14 minutes in!

Was nice that using the stroller enabled a run that I wouldn't otherwise have gotten in.

Also: Sylvia is 3 months old today!

Crosstrainer 23:00 [1] 3.15 mi (7:18 / mi)

6 x 2 min on the normal elliptical after Tom got back from PSU.

Cycling 23:00 [1] 7.15 mi (3:13 / mi)

Exercise bike, then home to make Christmas cookies!

Running 22:27 [1] 1.91 mi (11:45 / mi) +46m 10:56 / mi

Wow, went to a b-day party of a 1 year old. So many babies!! Sylvia was the tiniest, least able to even pretend to play with others. But she wasn't fussy, so all good!

Little joggeroo afterwards. Clear and cool here in Portland - not our normal winter weather!!

Friday Dec 8, 2017 #

Cycling 30:00 [1]

Little cycle in the gym after Malcolm's thesis orals. So impressed with his construction of a water Cherenkov muon detector for cosmic-ray caused air showers!!

Thursday Dec 7, 2017 #

Running 18:37 [1] 1.55 mi (12:01 / mi) +42m 11:05 / mi

Ok, been a full 2 weeks sans running. Going to very, very easily try to start up again... Just a little neighborhood jaunt.

Tuesday Dec 5, 2017 #

Strength 30:00 [1]

Mama/Baby yoga. Sylvia was sleeping in her carseat for the first bit, then woke up and was a pretty happy camper, needed feeding once and changing at the end. Good to see all the mamas+babies!

Monday Dec 4, 2017 #

Strength 30:00 [1]

Pilates. Sylvia did ok- just one feeding session. She's starting to pay attention to the Skwish, which is fun! I'm being more careful modifying things that feel iffy on the injured pelvis.

Beforehand, interviewed our most recent job candidate while breastfeeding. That's just the way my+baby's schedule melded today...
7 AM

Crosstrainer 17:00 [1] 2.1 mi (8:06 / mi)

Wake up, pump, exercise. Hope to be running again soon, don't like this having to drive to gym to workout business!

Cycling 22:00 [1]

Sunday Dec 3, 2017 #

Cycling 35:46 [1] 7.25 mi (4:56 / mi) +74m 4:47 / mi

Crosstrainer 18:00 [1] 2.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Cycling 23:00 [1] 7.2 mi (3:12 / mi)

Faster on the bike, slower on the elliptical today. Sylvia joined me at work for a webinar afterwards, on the super-cool recent findings of the neutron star/neutron star binary merger. Two diaper changes, two feedings and one short nap during it.
