9 AM

Hiking 37:40 [1] 2.31 mi (16:17 / mi) +69m 14:55 / mi

The Errol Heights zig-zag! All of the ways back-and-forth between 45th and 52nd starting with the Errol heights trail and ending on our street, Flavel St. Many of the roads are dirt and marked 'unmaintained' - strange for a city, give it kinda a hippie commune kinda feel. And then of course there is the one house with all the peacocks.

Strength 10:00 [1]

Pelvic tilts, bridges, heel slides, eighth crunches, clams.
9 AM

Hiking 40:27 [1] 2.31 mi (17:32 / mi) +65m 16:07 / mi

First loop including the Springwater! Rainy morning, but it's just still so nice to get outside. Think I'll try ellipticalling next week...

Hiking 27:48 [1] 1.7 mi (16:23 / mi) +32m 15:29 / mi

Flavel Dr. to Harney to Malden, CW loop. But Flavel is a bit too busy on the far side of 52nd to be pleasant walking, at least at this hour of day (commuting happening). A bit faster than I've been, still feel good.

Hiking 32:04 [1] 1.68 mi (19:05 / mi) +58m 17:14 / mi

CCW down through Errol Heights park, but added an extra loop on the East side of 52nd. Another really nice morning.

Strength 5:08 [1] 0.0 mi

3 x 10 pelvic tilts, 3 x 7 bridges

Hiking 25:54 [1] 1.33 mi (19:29 / mi) +55m 17:16 / mi

Hiking 22:07 [1] 1.08 mi (20:29 / mi) +40m 18:22 / mi

2 weeks! Sylvia did well at check-up, has gained a pound since birth. Although, she did pee, poop and spit-up all over me at the doctor's office. Ah well, much laundry these days...

(Grand)parents flights was canceled last night, so luckily one more day of their help here in Portland!

Malden loop CCW, with a bit extra at the bottom on the 52nd side. Felt good - internal muscles are much happier than on first walks.

Hiking 16:06 [1] 0.76 mi (21:11 / mi) +20m 19:35 / mi

Rex loop, beautiful weather, so glad the smoke is gone!

Sadly the last day (grand)parents Crocker are around helping out with Sylvia. Will miss having them on the 4am-7am shift, which has probably been the best sleep I've gotten for the past week each night!

Note

It was time for us to renew, so Sylvia has become an Orienteering USA member! =)

Friday Sep 22, 2017 #

9 AM

Hiking 15:47 [1] 0.74 mi (21:20 / mi) +7m 20:43 / mi

Flat loop at the top of the hill, including dropping off request for birth certificate to the mail. Also went by the 'meth house' site - now fully destroyed, beginning construction...

Hiking 18:23 [1] 0.91 mi (20:12 / mi) +33m 18:09 / mi

Malden St. loop, but some signs afterwards that I might have overextended myself, so will have to ease up the next few days...

Hiking 20:59 [1] 0.98 mi (21:25 / mi) +39m 19:03 / mi

Malden St. loop. Nice to have the uphill at the end to make it feel like this is some sort of aerobic work.

Hiking 17:00 [1] 0.75 mi (22:40 / mi)

SE on Flavel, S on 52nd, NW on Rex, N on 45th, back home.

Little (but longest yet!) walk around the neighborhood.

Starting to think about what recovery will look like. Order I plan to start things up:
- walking (now)
- Mama/Baby yoga (next week?)
- elliptical
- Pilates
- running

Hah, actually, that list is the reverse order I stopped doing things during pregnancy. Could add biking at the end, although I'm not sure if that will be easier or harder than starting up running.

Apparently the name of the game is pelvic floor strengthening, first and foremost! Here goes!

Note

We walked around the block - Sylvia in her carseat attached to the Bob stroller. But Tom had more work than he should have, because we forgot to pump up the tires on the Bob first.

Rain is rolling into Portland which is good for the air quality and for actually putting the gosh darn fires out!

Note

Sylvia's first checkup. She's almost back to birthweight (7 lb 6 oz) and not jaundiced, which is good stuff!!

I'm doing a-ok, healing, trying to sleep, writing my 4th year review for Reed and feeding, burping, changing diapers of the little one. Grandparents Crocker arrive tomorrow, which will be very welcome help!

Note

Sylvia Marie Crocker Allen was born!!
7 lb 7 oz and 20.5 inches.

Wow, truly nothing is else I've experienced is like that.

We had pretty smooth sailing, with unignorable contractions starting at 2am, water broke at 3:45 am, made it to hospital at 4:30am, and Sylvia was born at 7:16am. I used some nitrous oxide to help through the most painful contractions - I did appreciate having that option. Biggest complication was that her cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times, but the midwife delivering sorted that out quickly. All the nurses, midwife and Tom were just so helpful in coaching me through a totally new process, I'm very grateful.

We came home Tuesday afternoon and are learning lots hour-by-hour!!

Strength 25:00 [1]

Prenatal yoga. Whelp, definitely the most 'advanced' mom-to-be at this point, my due-date buddy apparently gave birth on Wednesday after her water broke during Tuesday evening's yoga class.

If baby comes tomorrow, she'll share Tom's b-day. But if not, they start more frequent checking of baby + me for the final allowed week (won't be allowed beyond 42).

Crosstrainer 22:00 [1]

Woo, air quality back to good! So much nicer to breathe the air today.

Hiking 8:00 [1]

And stairmill @68 spm. Then lots of writing on my 4 year self-eval that's due Sept. 18th. Might as well use this time sans baby wisely!

Wednesday Sep 6, 2017 #

Crosstrainer 20:00 [1]

Air quality is still crappy, but it smells less like smoke. The nearby fire is apparently 30,000 acres now and has burned the spot where Tom and I went hiking on Sunday.

I let myself elliptical for 20 min just to be a little active and then some prenatal yoga moves. Everyone at work is surprised to see me each morning now... still just a-waiting! One good thing about being late is that the air quality has more time to improve - would be anxious taking a newborn home in this right now!

Tuesday Sep 5, 2017 #

Note

Quick note that baby did not come on her due date (yesterday), but we're perfectly fine and just waiting. Was going to elliptical today, but the air quality in Portland is terrible from the forest fire smoke, so sitting it out.

Friday Sep 1, 2017 #

Crosstrainer 30:00 [1]

Normal elliptical, 4.5 of the Grand Staircase hikes. Someone else nabbed the stairmill today, so stuck with elliptical for longer.
