8 AM

Terrain (Grass) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Oroc 340

Another less than successful attempt at warming up. At least not so much wind today.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:51:26 [3] *** 12.3 km (9:04 / km) +465m 7:37 / km

PT14. Was pretty sure I had the fitness to win, so I went ultra conservative on the nav. Took safe routes, stayed within myself, stopped at the first inkling that things weren't right. As a result, pace was slower than usual, but the nav was relatively clean. Ran the second loop a bit harder since I had been fairly close to all the locations on the first loop, so I was confident I could fix any problems. Skipped 10 and 35. First overall.

Granted, the field was weaker than usual this year. However, I now join Mikell Platt and Mark Everett as a multiple winner of this event. It's a pretty fine day when you have something in common with those two.

Full report.

Desparately trying to warm up. Not particularly effective.

Orienteering race (Woods) 24:37 [3] ***
10c shoes: Oroc 340

OK Sprint. Not really that cold, but a crazy howling wind had me pretty locked up at the start. Had a lot of trouble punching at the first couple controls because my hands were so cold. Was OK after that. Didn't want to run too hard since I still wasn't really sure how much I'd have for the Trot tomorrow. Legs felt OK, but better safe than sorry. One stupid boom at #2, everything else was fine. Finished 3rd overall, 1st M45+.

Cycling (Road) 42:00 [2]

In to work - very easy pace. Tried something new today; picked up the link at Clayton. It doesn't save any time (total time in was 3 minutes faster than usual), but it certainly does mitigate the cold. Got to the station in 37 minutes, which is about the time I'm usually feeling pretty miserable riding in mid-20's temps. Warmed up a bit on the train and the last mile in from Grand was obviously no big deal.

Cycling (Road) 1:18:00 [2]

Back from work. Got held up in a meeting that went long so rather than a nice afternoon spin home in mid-30's, it was below freezing, getting dark, and the traffic was quite heavy. Bummer, but there you have it.

5 AM

Running (Road) 50:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

In to work via Ballas/Brentwood/Grand. December monthly metro passes are a festive red.
3 PM

Running (Road) 1:46:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

Link to the Galleria, then home at an easy pace.
6 PM

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [2]

Family class with Yaya. I liked the adult only class better. Yaya seemed indifferent, so I think we'll be going on Tuesdays from now on.

5 AM

Running (Road) 22:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

In to work via Olive/Delmar/Grand metro. The link was rather crowded for 5:30AM. Maybe more folks are coming around to this mass transit thing.
3 PM

Running (Road) 57:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

Link from Grand to Forsythe, then ran to Great Harvest where I caught the 91 the rest of the way home.
7 PM

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 45:00 [3]

Yaya has gotten over the tragic death of Master Warren and agreed to give TKD another go. We've transferred to Master Roth's dojang. Master Lowe taught tonight. Yaya did the 6PM kid's class and I took the following adult class. I like the structure of Master Lowe's classes. More time on the floor and all of it is pretty active. Good to be back.
