Running (Road) 25:00 [2]
Warmup. In bits and pieces since they kept moving the start time based on the projected arrival of the paddles (the van with the paddles got separated from the trucks towing the canoes to the race).
Paddling race (Canoe) 16:49 [5]
Conquer Castlewood paddling section. Significantly shortened from previous years. I guess the thinking was that with the river moving this quick, the slower teams were going to really struggle. They did, but Brad was going sick up front and we just nuked the paddle. Very fun to lead all the boats into the the TA by nearly a minute.

Then turned in the mountain bike ride of my life. Pulled away from Brad on the big climb (teams can separate after the paddle) and smoked the descent to finish 90 seconds clear of the next guy in. Brad was third just a few seconds behind that. Fastest I've ever ridden the full loop by a couple minutes. Time counts both transitions, both of which were under 15 seconds.
Terrain race (Trail) 25:10 [5]

The only blot on an otherwise perfect race - I struggled pretty badly for the first couple miles of the run. Found my stride just in time to hold on to the win. Finished about 20 seconds in front. Brad got 4th, locking up the team title. Quite gratifying to come up big in the race I cared about this spring. Now it's time to get serious about preparing for the marathon.

But not before taking one last spin around the ridge trails to loosen up. Passed a trio of riders coming the other way on Roller Coaster. Being in no hurry, I pulled off to let them by. The last one said "Thanks a bunch mate" in a very authentic Australian accent. If you ever want a good day made better, have an Aussie thank you; it's so genuine, you can literally feel it warm you.
