Super nice day, so I took the opportunity to get in a ride (which doesn't hurt the foot at all since bike shoes are rigid sole. Most of my grass venues were saturated, so I stuck to roads.

Walking is fine. Feels better to not have a shoe on. No real pain, but there's a steady background signal that things aren't right. So far, very consistent with the stress fracture pattern.

Old School Barefoot Loop. Felt fine running, but when I went to wipe the mud off my feet there was the telltale bruise of a stress fracture staring up from my third metatarsal. It will be a week or two before it can be confirmed but, having been down this road twice before, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Serves me right for letting my weight get too high, I guess - that's pretty much the only time I get overuse injuries.

Hopefully we'll get some decent cycling weather soon so I don't lose too much more fitness. Marathon prep is supposed to start in just 9 weeks and I was wanting to bring a decent base into that. If it is a stress fracture, that training plan will have to be significantly modified.

No doubt my thesis adviser is happy that I won't be running as much.

JeffCo Endurance Trials. Felt good for the first four hours and then didn't feel good. No real surprise there. Gave up on getting to 40 and just jogged easy for the last two hours, winding up with a bit over 37 and not enough time to complete another lap. Fourth overall, 2nd dude (really! the women killed this one, taking 1st and 3rd). First over 50 (male or female). Fun day, but a mild bummer that what was once my best distance is looking like it's just a bit too long to run the whole way.
