* I was feeling pretty good about moving the weight up on most of my exercises. Then one of the women from the softball team came along and went through the same set of machines, adding a couple plates to everything I did. I'd say I bet I can run 100 miles faster than her, but that's not really a sure thing right at the moment.

To that end, last quality workout before Rocky. 4x9:00T 1:00R. Just a hair more intensity than last time to make sure it was solid tempo. Legs is still not great but, if I don't do anything too stupid in the next four days, I'd give it better than even odds of making it through 100 miles. It may well be really badly injured at the end of that, but I think it can do it.

Yesterday's run was not catastrophic, but it certainly did the leg no favors. I'll run Friday because I always feel bad if I haven't run the day before a race. That might be it, though.

Electric Duck. Felt terrible. Kind of like when you switch from the bike to run in a Duathlon. Which, I guess, is not surprising seeing as I've gone 10 days without running but have ridden (and done the elliptical). Anyway, I was pretty surprised by the time; it felt much slower than that so I guess my fitness hasn't fallen too far off.

There were some weak signals of distress coming from the right ankle. Nothing problematic, but indicative of less than full recovery. How it feels over the next two days will be telling. Plan is to ride tomorrow and get in another quality workout on the elliptical on Monday. Just easy jogs after that.

Right leg felt OK today. Which means that today was NOT the day to start running again since that would merely present the opportunity to "test" it and we'd be right back where we were 3 weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the left knee has made it clear that any real pressure on the pedals will result in a work stoppage. Despite Missouri's Right to Work laws, the knee is not easily replaced, so I took this threat seriously.

Which is a long way of saying I just spun the 58 on the flood plain.

The elliptical seems to be the ticket. No complaints from either the knee or the leg. Two significant drawbacks: the only elliptical have access to is as UMSL and it's boring as hell.

Home from work. Not quite so frosty, but still pretty brisk. Leg is still not right and might even be getting worse. I think the worst damage is happening at night. Something about my sleep position really messes it up. I'm not sure how to tape it to protect whatever is getting strained. Anyway, I can't risk the Babler meet tomorrow. One bad turn could put me out of Rocky.

Home from work. Legs are OK except for the right anterior shin just above the ankle. Feels almost like a sprain, though I'm sure it's just the injury from 3 weeks ago aggravated by the long run. Could be serious, though I don't think it is.

FFRC NYD run. Actually, SCRC NYD run. We're changing our name back to St. Charles Runner's Club because Fleet Feet (which will continue to support us) has a similarly named program that they charge for and people were mixing them up.

Anyway, good run as usual. Temp was -2 at the start but I was dressed well and didn't have any problems with the cold. I did skip the east side section as the grind on the fire road isn't very interesting and I knew just about everybody else was cutting it short.
