6 AM

Orienteering (Woods) 1:25:00 [2] ***
24c shoes: Sabino TR

Setting controls for the Relay at Creve Coeur Lake (1:10). Headlamp for the first half hour.
4 PM

Orienteering (Woods) 25:00 [2] **
2c shoes: Sabino TR

Dropped an epunch unit when setting this morning, so I went back out to look for it. No idea how it could have fallen out of a zippered pocket. I assumed I'd dropped it at the previous control site (I know I had it there because I almost put it on the stand before realizing the number was wrong). Spent about 20 minutes looking (not included in time) but I couldn't find it anywhere. Bummer.

8 AM

Orienteering (Mix) 24:00 [2] ***
10c shoes: Sabino TR

Quick check of the campground controls prior to the Middle at Cuivre River (1:10).
3 PM

Orienteering (Park) 40:00 [1] ***
8c shoes: Sabino TR

Corn Maze with Yaya. Fun, but it was pretty hot and she was getting thirsty, so we called it a day after 8 controls.
5 PM

Orienteering (Woods) 1:02:00 [2] ***
11c shoes: Sabino TR

Amazingly enough, I found myself with an hour of daylight left as I was getting home. Stopped by CC Lake to put out stands for the relay.

Tuesday Oct 25, 2011 #

More touch ups at Creve Coeur Lake and that's going to have to do it. Printing maps tonight.

Monday Oct 24, 2011 #

4 PM

Orienteering (Wpods) 2:08:00 [3] ***
36c shoes: Sabino TR

Check of each control site for The relay at CC Lake (1:10). Another great day with more of the same predicted for the weekend.

Map touch-ups at Creve Coeur Lake.

8 AM

Mapping (Woods) 1:30:00 [1] ***
shoes: Oroc 340

Last touch ups on the Cuivre River map.

Orienteering (Woods) 44:00 [3] *** 5.3 km (8:18 / km) +1m 8:18 / km
shoes: Oroc 340

Middle Blue course at Cuivre River (1:10) at a firm but not quite competition pace. Typical high quality course from Rick. A few bobbles but I was surprised I was as clean as I was given my complete lack of nav training this year. A bit rusty at running through the terrain. Legs felt good. So fine!

Orienteering (Woods) 18:30 [4] ***
shoes: Oroc 340

Then test ran my sprint course. Too long. No biggie as there's a section I wasn't wild about that's easily removed.

Orienteering (Woods) 30:00 [3] **
shoes: Oroc 340

Back to the car running on the map. Took a long route because it was just so nice to be running through the woods again.

Thursday Oct 20, 2011 #

4 PM

Terrain (Trail) 43:00 [2] **
weight:167lbs shoes: Sabino TR

Easy running on the powerline. Actually felt OK. Stale, obviously, but no real complaints from joints or muscles. Looks like my body is finally resurrecting itself. I don't think I'll ever try to run 4 ultras in 8 weeks again.

Sunday Oct 16, 2011 #

2 PM

Mapping (Woods) 3:00:00 [1] ***
shoes: Salomon XA

Reworking a section of CC Lake that saw a lot of storm damage over the summer, plus double checking a few control locations.

Saturday Oct 15, 2011 #

3 PM

Mapping (Woods) 1:30:00 [1] ***
shoes: Sabino TR

Mapping a section of CC Lake that won't be used for the meet, but I figured I might as well finish the whole map given that it's this close.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:12:00 [3] ***
15c shoes: Sabino TR

Then ran a bunch legs from the relay courses. Grass has got crazy long in the fields. I'm going to have to make some minor mods because nobody is going to want to go through that.

Friday Oct 14, 2011 #

5 PM

Terrain (Trail) 1:16:00 [2] ***
shoes: Sabino TR

Ran into Tommy Doijas at the gas station coming home from work and he said he was about to run the Tyson side of the Chubb with Travis Lisles. Running the most technical trail in the county with two of the best trail runners in the Midwest might not have been the best way to return from a 3-week layoff, but they he promised they would go slow. They did, but it felt hard. Out to the tracks and back was 56 minutes, which is about my normal pace for easy/long.

Thursday Oct 13, 2011 #

Mapping (Woods) 1:45:00 [1] ***
weight:166lbs (rest day) shoes: Sabino TR

More setting and checking at CC Lake.

Sunday Oct 9, 2011 #

Mapping (Woods) 4:00:00 [1]
shoes: Salomon XA

Last bit of followup checking for Bill & Rick at Cuivre River. Andrew Katandjef came along to see what he could pick up. I'm not sure he learned much more than the fact that confirming other people's notes is tedious but at least it was another super nice day. One more trip out there to set the sprint.

Saturday Oct 8, 2011 #

7 AM

Running (Road) 44:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

Easy jog round the hood. Pace was only a little slow but it didn't feel very good. Probably need another week or so.
12 PM

Mapping (Woods) 2:00:00 [1] ****
shoes: Salomon XA

Cleaning up some of the water features (all of which are dry right now) on the CC Lake map. This terrain is super cool. Too bad so few folks will see it.
4 PM

Cycling (Road) 1:47:00 [2]
shoes: Bike:Cannondale Road

When I got home I couldn't find the rolls I bought at Great Harvest. Called out there and, sure enough, I paid for them and then just walked right out without them. Rode back out there to get them. As
With yeaterday, things felt progressively better. Super nice day to be out all day.

Friday Oct 7, 2011 #

6 AM

Running (Road) 34:00 [2]
shoes: DS Trainers

Very easy jog round the hood. Maybe under 9:00/mi but probably not.
4 PM

Cycling (Road) 2:01:00 [2]
shoes: Bike:Cannondale Road

Easy miles in the 60. Never felt great, but felt better the longer I went.

Thursday Oct 6, 2011 #

Note
weight:166lbs (rest day)

Another longish day at work and I had to get home quickly to take Yaya duties (though she is old enough mow to be left alone for short periods). No worries; plenty of recovery still to go.

Wednesday Oct 5, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Meant to knock off early today, but we got hit with some production problems and it ended up being a long day at work. I'm actually happy about that, despite missing some outstanding weather. It's always nice to make an impact in your first week and I was the first one to piece togehter what actually went wrong (though it was certainly a collaborative effort).

Did get a little time around midday to finish up my plan for Boston. Posted it on my Carol's Team blog (which has been getting a bit stale lately).

Tuesday Oct 4, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Legs feeling quite a bit better. Went for a walk at lunch.

Monday Oct 3, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

First day at new job (Reinsurance Group of America). Should be good; I'm back with the old Peoplesoft team from AG Edwards (who fled after the bank takeovers). A week off would have been nice, but wasn't to be.

Sunday Oct 2, 2011 #

2 PM

Mapping (Woods) 2:30:00 [1] ***
(rest day) shoes: Salomon XA

More checking/updating at CC Lake.

Cycling (Road) 59:00 [2]
(rest day) shoes: Bike:Cannondale Road

Then got out for a short spin. Felt much better than last Thursday, but still a long way from recovered.

Mapping (Woods) 1:30:00 [1] ***

Not really mapping, more careful like course checking at CC Lake, but as it involved no running, I'll log it as mapping.
