Running (Road) 1:02:00 [3]

Over to Forest Park. Ran around the Start/Exchange/Finish area for the relay.

Sunday Jan 30, 2005 #

Cycling (Road) 1:10:00 [2]

Easy spin from parking area to the start and back.

Cycling (Road) 1:02:48 [4]

Big Shark TTT. Our team got saddled with an extra man (since the riders are assigned in roughly order of ability, this is not an advantage) so the first lap was a little slow. At the start of the second lap we dropped 2 and the remaining 4 of us hammered pretty well, even beating a few of the 5 man teams.

Running (Trail) 2:26:00 [3]

Clark trail with David Frei. Then Jeff & Carrie Sona joined us for a lap of the Lewis trail. Very sloppy - new snow on top of mud. The company made the workout fun. I'm looking forward to racing with them.

Easy jog round the hood.

Cycling (Trainer) 1:00:00 [4]

8x(0:30 at AT, then 0:30 at 110% AT) 4:00 Recovery. Includes warmup.

Running (Mix) 46:00 [3]

Through Maplewood and into the Hill including all sorts of daring feats like sprinting across the tracks in front of a train, evading square headed dogs, and hopping chain link fences. One maneuver that is no longer required is scrambling down and then up the concrete walls of the Des Peres channel because they finally re-opened the bridge on Southwest Ave. (only took 2.5 years to fix a 50-foot bridge).

Running (Road) 1:06:00 [3]

My teammates have informed me that my horsepower to technique ratio indicates that a full suspension would do me more good than shaving a few pounds. So, I ran over to Big Shark to test ride the Stumpjumper FSR and Epic, the latter being so sweet that I can't believe I almost bought another hardtail.

Ran back at a pretty good clip, no doubt benefitting from the newfound weight savings in my wallet. Good thing Mike cuts me a deal on these purchases.

Cycling (Trainer) 1:00:00 [2]

Easy spinning.

Running (Woods) 10:00 [2]

To the start of the Cold Nose. Not really a "warm" up as I was much warmer in the shelter than I was by the time I reached the start. Ambient temp (mid 20's F) was only slightly below normal for this time of year but the start was on the top of the ridge where we were subjected to the full force of laminar airflow moving at 30-40 mph.

SLOC Cold Nose at West Tyson (1:10). Farsta format. Was running by myself after the fifth control. No errors resulting in significant time loss, but I was moving a bit slower than usual to protect my ankle. The cold also mandated some longer stops at controls as my hands were too cold to punch, so I had to put the punch on my leg and pound it with my fist. After the first 2K, we got onto the lee side of the ridge and I was fine from then on.

Decent course set by David Frei - navigation was more towards orange to keep the climb from getting out of control. Also made the farsta more accessible. With David out there wasn't any serious competition.

Running (Road) 32:00 [2]

Easy jog round the hood.

Thursday Jan 20, 2005 #

Cycling (Trainer) 32:00 [2]

Easy spinning with a few spin sprints (which were pretty lame - I need to do more low gear work).

Wednesday Jan 19, 2005 #

Running (Track) 46:00 [4]

8x400@86 200R. Includes jogging over to the track and back.

Tuesday Jan 18, 2005 #

Cycling (Trainer) 45:00 [2]

Easy spinning with a few decent efforts thrown in.

Monday Jan 17, 2005 #

Note

Another day in airports courtesy of US Airways.

Sunday Jan 16, 2005 #

Running (Road) 1:08:00 [4]

From my parent's house down to Cayuga Lake and back including 2 repeats on the steep section (about 150m vertical). Total climbing something like 500m.

Running (Road) 41:00 [2]

Went back to Ithaca on Thursday, but my suitcase (which had my running shoes) didn't arrive until today. Second time in as many trips back home that US Air has done that.

My sister's condition continues to deteriorate - notable decline just since the Italy trip. Seeing Baby-O cheered her up a lot, although she's been remarkably upbeat for a person with a terminal illness.

Running (Road) 1:10:00 [4]

Ran over to Forest Park intending to do 3 miles in 21 minutes. Was thinking it felt kinda warm for January when I spotted David Welsh coming the other way on the bike path wearing only shorts and shoes. He was finishing a tempo run of his own so I joined him for 2 miles@13:00. By then my long-sleaved jersey was totally soaked so I figured the spirit of the workout had been achieved and jogged back home.

Tuesday Jan 11, 2005 #

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [3]

Includes 5x1:00@40K effort.

Sunday Jan 9, 2005 #

Running (Trail) 2:16:00 [3]

Lewis & Clark trail with David Frei. Trail was pretty sloppy in spots, so the effort was higher than the time would indicate.

Saturday Jan 8, 2005 #

Cycling (Trainer) 1:00:00 [2]

Figured it's high time I started training again. Ankle is OK, but still prone to reinjury. Will probably stay out of the woods a couple more weeks.

Monday Jan 3, 2005 #

Running (Road) 1:04:00 [3]

Had dinner at Blueberry Hill with Kate and Baby-O. Then they went home while I went to the team meeting at Big Shark. Ran home, adding a loop through Forest Park.

Sunday Jan 2, 2005 #

Cycling (Trainer) 31:00 [2]

Back from Italy. No, no, I didn't ride my trainer back from Italy. I flew back on a plane and then rode my trainer.
