Note
(rest day)

Took the day off to see if that would settle down my hip. Some improvement noted.

Sunday Nov 29, 2015 #

7 AM

Running (Road) 45:00 [2]
(rest day) shoes: Lyte33 2

Easy jog round the hood.

Saturday Nov 28, 2015 #

7 AM

Running (Road) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Lyte33 3

More of a feasibility run than a pre run. Hip is pretty tight, but I decided it was good enough to go and jog it.
9 AM

Running (Road) 20:00 [2]
shoes: Lyte33 3

Wasn't planning on much of a warmup since I wasn't entirely sure I could run 10 miles today. However, the start was delayed and it was damp and cold, so I kept moving.

Running race (Road) 1:10:51 [4] 10.0 mi (7:05 / mi)
shoes: Lyte33 3

Great River Road 10. Ran the first mile pretty easy, then firmed it up a bit as things felt progressively better. Way off race pace, but a good firm steady-state workout. Glad I did it and I think it actually did loosen up the hip and back a bit.

Friday Nov 27, 2015 #

10 AM

Running (Road) 25:00 [2]
(injured) (rest day) shoes: Sayonara 2

... and I'm jacked up. Back is really bad. Went for a short run to try to loosen it up; helped a bit, but not much. Saw the masseuse this afternoon and that helped a bit more. Tomorrow's "race" will be a training run at best. Might not be able to run at all.

Thursday Nov 26, 2015 #

11 AM

Cycling (Road) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

Thought about riding some singletrack since the coming rain will shut that option down for a while. Decided to go for a mixed venue loop instead. Beautiful day, super windy.

FatTire (Trail) 45:00 [3] **
shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

Off road portion of the ride, taken at a fairly brisk clip. Priori, Queeny, and the powerline.

Wednesday Nov 25, 2015 #

5 AM

Terrain (Grass) 50:00 [2] **
(injured) shoes: Sayonara 2

Powerline to River Valley, then catching the bus to work.

Tuesday Nov 24, 2015 #

5 AM

Running (Road) 30:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Sayonara 2

In to work, taking the bus on Olive.
4 PM

Terrain (Mix) 35:00 [2] **
(injured) shoes: Sayonara 2

Work to the Valley.

Monday Nov 23, 2015 #

7 AM

Cycling (Road) 40:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

In to work. Since taking training seriously just resulted in my injuring myself, I've gone back to the no-watch plan.
4 PM

Cycling (Mix) 40:00 [2] **
(injured) shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

Home from work with a bit on the powerline.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:13:00 [2] ***
(injured) shoes: Oroc 280

Yes, orienteering, that thing where you use a map to find shit. Vetting the O-section of CW8. As it's an adventure race, the venue, distance, and number of controls will not be revealed. I wouldn't read too much into the time, either, though I won't say why. However, I'm sure Emily won't mind me saying that the woods are so very fine, the locations are fair and interesting, the map is good enough to get it right, and all the tapes are in the correct spot. She might mind me noting that the course is very solid intermediate, but I'll note it anyway. By that, I mean what one would expect for Orange at an A-meet; not the dumbed-down-longish-Yellow-branded-as-Orange that we often see at local events. Bring your A-game, kids. David Frei is going to take a huge chunk of time out of the field on this one.

Note

Shout out to those running the Trot tomorrow, particularly Spike, who will become the new leader in the "Lifetime Trot Standings." Here's my report from the PTXV, which was nominally the final trot.

Running (Road) 52:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Sayonara 2

Yes, running. Toe is definitely not all the way back, but wasn't sending any dire signals, either. Probably OK to go back to 2-3 runs a week.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

More crappy weather and tons to do.

Monday Nov 16, 2015 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Crappy day and a fair bit of work to do. I'd call it more of a day off than a rest day since my training hasn't been nearly intense enough to require actual rest.

Sunday Nov 15, 2015 #

1 PM

Cycling (Road) 1:20:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

Might have broken another toe! Kate & I stayed at a hotel last night and I got up around 3AM and stubbed it on the leg of a bench at the foot of the bed. It looks pretty ugly. Fourth toe on the right. Walking hurts and it really looks bad.

Anyway, got back home and did a loop pulling in the Priory CC course, trails at Queeny, some grass at lower CCL and finally back on the powerline. Road portions were taken at an easy spin.

FatTire (Trail) 47:00 [3] **
(injured) shoes: Bike: Raleigh RXS (SS/CX)

Off-road portion of the above ride. Taken fairly firm. Great day to ride fast off road; everything is firm, grip is excellent.

Saturday Nov 14, 2015 #

8 AM

FatTire (Trail) 2:02:00 [2] ***
(injured) shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

Breakfast with FFRC then Upper CCL.
12 PM

FatTire (Trail) 45:00 [1] ***

Took the afternoon off since I'll be working tonight. Home via Katy, Bangert, Upper CCL, Duck in the Woods and the powerline. So fine!

Cycling (Road) 38:00 [2]
weight:172lbs (injured) shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

The SS seems to have developed a slow leak. Didn't feel like dealing with that at 6AM, so I took the SUV in to work.
4 PM

Cycling (Mix) 36:00 [2] *
(injured) shoes: Bike:Kona Hardtail

Didn't get out of work until almost sunset, so it was pretty much straight home, with just the usual powerline section off road near the end.

Wednesday Nov 11, 2015 #

5 PM

Running (Elliptical) 20:00 [3]
(injured)

At UMSL before class. Toe didn't hurt anymore than it has all day.

Gym (Weights) 20:00 [4]
(injured)

Then 1 set, moderate, on the machines.

Tuesday Nov 10, 2015 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Another beautiful fall day squandered. Guess I should get used to that. I was going to use the elliptical after class, but walking from class to the gym, my toe was hurting more than usual, so I decided to skip even that.

Monday Nov 9, 2015 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Rats. Work/school killed a very fine fall day today.

Sunday Nov 8, 2015 #

Cycling (Mix) 2:57:00 [2] **

Crossed at Page and started heading SW on the Katy. By the time I got to Greens Bottom, the gnats were out of control! Decided to bounce over the ridge and see if they liked the Mississippi less than the Missouri. Only problem with that plan was that St. Peters is at the top of the ridge which is one of my least favorite places to ride. The motorists aren't hostile like in Jeffco; there's just nothing about the activity that I derive pleasure from. Anyway, that was only about 20 minutes and once in the other valley it was a delightful gnat-free ride to St. Charles, where I again caught the Katy and left her a mule to ride. (Aside from Clark, are any of my readers old enough to get the reference?)

Note
weight:172lbs (injured) (rest day)

Work/school induced rest day. Nice that these are lining up with days the weather sucks.

Duck in the woods. I give it "advanced" only because I was moving reasonably quick and this is, after all, a cross bike so even easy singletrack is pushing the use case.
