Running (Road) 28:00 [2]

Really easy jog. Ankle didn't give me any trouble.

Sunday Nov 27, 2005 #

Note

Didn't come away completely unscathed. I hyper-flexed the ankle that was already injured. I don't think it's serious, but it did swell up a bit. A couple days off is probably a good idea.

Orienteering race (Woods) 3:11:46 [4] *** 20.7 km (9:16 / km) +870m 7:39 / km
spiked:28/35c

SLOC 3-hour. Pretty good run with booms of 2 and 1 minute. Several other small bobbles, but overall quite clean. Ankle didn't give me any trouble - I taped it pretty well. Had a winning run, but got confused by all the bonus rules and decided that I should stay out OT and get the sweep. Turned out to be a bad choice and the penalties dropped me to third behind David Frei and Kevin Teschendorf. Fun course, but I didn't much like all the gimicks with the scoring.

Cycling (Mix) 2:01:00 [3]

Over to Queeny and then about an hour on the trails.

Wednesday Nov 23, 2005 #

Running (Road) 32:00 [2]

Easy late night jog. Wore active ankles on both sides, one as a control. The right side (not injured) felt fine. The left side hurt quite a bit. I think there's still just enough swelling around the bone that it doesn't quite fit right. I hope I can figure out a way to fix this by Saturday or there's no way I make it three hours.

Running (Track) 55:00 [4]

3x1@6:00 800R. Includes jogging to track and back.

Monday Nov 21, 2005 #

Running (Road) 42:00 [3]

Lunchtime run with Jeff.

Sunday Nov 20, 2005 #

Cycling (Mix) 48:00 [2]

Over to Queeny and then some of the trails.

Running (Mix) 1:42:00 [3]

3 laps of Queeny trails, some of which is paved, with folks from the Big Shark Tri team. Wore an active ankle. Everything felt fine so I even tried running through the woods a bit on the last loop. I'm no long checking the "injured" box, although there is a fair bit of rehab still to go.

Cycling (Road) 28:00 [3]

Back from Queeny at a good pace.

Saturday Nov 19, 2005 #

Cycling (Road) 1:32:00 [2]
(injured)

Took the mountain bike for a few laps around Creve Coeur Lake. All roads except for 100m of singletrack between CCL Park and Seven Pines subdivision.

Mapping (Park) 1:00:00 [1] **
(injured)

Walking around UMSL finalizing my mapping standards for the sprint map.

Thursday Nov 17, 2005 #

Running (Road) 32:00 [2]
(injured)

Wrapped the ankle and went for a short run. Felt OK - tempted me to do more, but I resisted. Probably a good thing as things were a little sore afterwards. There's a lot more discoloration on the foot now, but the swelling has gone down to almost nothing.

Wednesday Nov 16, 2005 #

Note
(injured)

Ankle is healing up OK. No bandage needed today. Went for a 20-minute walk at lunchtime.

Monday Nov 14, 2005 #

Note
(injured)

Some moderate swelling and discoloration on the ankle. Not as bad as I had feared. Probably a 2-3 week injury if I'm smart enough not to aggrevate it.

Sunday Nov 13, 2005 #

Running (Grass) 22:00 [2]

Warmup.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:13:00 [4] ***
spiked:7/10c

First part of US Long Course Champs at Fair Hill (1:15). Turned my ankle at #4 and continue to 10 before packing it in. Was running reasonably well, although there was far too much ahead to extrapolate a good finish. Big time bummer, but a fun weekend nonetheless.

Running (Trail) 23:00 [2]

Jogging back in from #10. Decided that if I didn't keep moving it would stiffen up to where I could hardly walk. That's pretty much what happened after I got back.

Saturday Nov 12, 2005 #

Running (Grass) 35:00 [2]

Warmup/down.

Orienteering race (Woods) 58:50 [4] *** 7.9 km (7:27 / km) +175m 6:42 / km
spiked:8/14c

Red at DVOA Fair Hill Big Elk Chapel (1:10). Decent run - a bit rough at first but then cleaned it up. As with yesterday, held back on the running sections just enough to not kill my legs for tomorrow. 5th M40+.

Friday Nov 11, 2005 #

Running (Grass) 20:00 [2]

Warmup.

Orienteering race (Woods) 16:20 [4] *** 2.65 km (6:10 / km) +80m 5:21 / km
spiked:11/13c

DVOA Sprint. Ran below AT so I wouldn't kill my legs for Sunday. Generally a good run with clean nav except for a terrible boom on #2.

Orienteering (Woods) 35:00 [2] ***

Went back out on the sprint map and jogged around a bit looking at the vegetation mapping in particular.

Thursday Nov 10, 2005 #

Running (Road) 39:00 [3]

Moderate pace. Definitely have a head cold, but my legs and lungs feel fine. Hopefully I can fend it off through the weekend.

Wednesday Nov 9, 2005 #

Running (Road) 40:00 [3]

With Baby-O in the jogger. Head is a bit congested, I might have a mild cold. Bummer.

Monday Nov 7, 2005 #

Orienteering (Woods) 1:13:00 [3] ***

Control picking at Babler. Normally I break this type of thing up into 20-30 minute sessions, but I wanted to work on staying focused for longer. Didn't work, my head was out of it after an hour.

Sunday Nov 6, 2005 #

Running (Grass) 10:00 [2]

Warmup.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:05:28 [4] *** 7.5 km (8:44 / km) +280m 7:21 / km
spiked:7/11c

SLOC meet at St. Francios. Good run, albeit not as hard as usual since the footing there is dicey. No significant nav errors although a few legs could have been less tentative. map.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:10:00 [3] ***

Control pickup at a quicker than usual pace since the sun was going down. Managed to get back to the road just as it set.

Saturday Nov 5, 2005 #

Running (Trail) 1:40:00 [2]

Ran for about 40 minutes at Castelwood and then went to switch to the bike only to realize I left my helmet at home. Ran for another hour.

Friday Nov 4, 2005 #

Running (Trail) 20:00 [2]

To/from the car.

Orienteering (Woods) 55:20 [3] *** 6.2 km (8:55 / km) +280m 7:17 / km

Old Red course at Rockwoods (1:15). Wasn't running particularly fast, just taking good routes and being clean. Finished under 9/K at rockwoods and didn't feel particularly tired. There's a lesson in there somewhere - I wonder if I'm smart enough to learn it.

Thursday Nov 3, 2005 #

Running (Track) 46:00 [4]

12x200@40 200R. All were run pretty tight, but I was particularly happy with my last three splits: 40.03, 39.98, 39.95 - that's called dialing in a pace right there.

Wednesday Nov 2, 2005 #

Running (Trail) 1:11:44 [3] 7.5 mi (9:34 / mi)

With a days eating successfully kept down and 3 pounds back, I took to the trails of Pere Marquette because it's been almost two years since I ran them. Not much has changed. Hopefully I'll run this loop 11 minutes and 45 seconds faster in six weeks.

Tuesday Nov 1, 2005 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Down another pound, despite being able to eat yesterday. Feel a bit better today, although I'm pretty weak from having eaten so little lately.
